Opis:
Musicians in the orchestra pit often report problems with too high sound levels during performances. At the same time, numerous surveys indicate frequent problems with the mutual hearing of musicians with each other, as well as themselves or a singer from the stage. The structure of the orchestra pit causes the musicians to be exposed to strong reflections with low delay, which increases the overall sound pressure level. In the literature, one can find recommendations that the space of the orchestra pit should be treated with sound absorbing materials in a wide range and with sound-scattering materials without indicating their quantity or localization. This paper focuses on the development of tools for assessing and predicting the value of energetic parameters such as sound strength G or clarity C80 in the orchestra pit based on its acoustic absorption and the volume of the hall. The sound propagation model in concert halls proposed by Barron and Lee was adapted for this purpose. The sound strength G can be used to predict the acoustic conditions in the orchestra pit, such as the sound pressure level, the mutual audibility of the musicians, and how the room supports playing musicians. The analysis covers several existing halls of different geometry and size, as well as the design of the barrier of the orchestra pit with the proposed modifications.

Opis:
The orchestra pit is not a friendly workplace for musicians, and the need to ensure their interaction with the stage and audience places very high demands on this interior. The aim of the considerations presented in the article was to analyse the various possibilities of acoustic adaptation of the orchestra pit against the background of obtaining the expected effects. The conducted simulation studies and the use of the results of the experimental studies carried out in the well-equipped orchestra pit of the Krakow Opera allowed for the indication of representative acoustic parameters useful for the assessment of the results of acoustic treatment. Based on the comparison of the reverberation time T20 and EDT for various variants of the orchestra pit interior, the confirmation of the legitimacy of using sound diffusing and absorbing systems was obtained. They spread the energy of the first sound reflections in time and reduce the risk to the musicians' hearing. Reflective elements and sound dispersing within the orchestral will ensure adequate audibility between the musicians.

Opis:
W artykule rozważane są przykładowe problemy konserwatorskie w świetle zagadnień akustycznych, jakie autorzy rozwiązywali podczas prac projektowych i realizacyjnych nad obiektem. Autorzy wykazali, że można je ze sobą zestawiać, a poprzez dążenie do optymalizacji rozwiązań kreować nową, dodaną wartość.
Interference in a monument may lead to the loss of its evidential value or its authenticity, but it is also a chance for the active functioning of the monument, an opportunity to add valuable contemporary elements. Apart from the issues of transforming the functional and spatial system, an important group of problems concerning the adaptation of architectural monuments is the issue of elements and architectural details as well as specialist engineering solutions. Adaptation of the historic building to new technical and technological requirements can be carried out in such a way that it becomes a coherent, integral element of the chosen principle, affecting the appropriate choice of the used means. The modernization of the hall of the former Capitol Cinema in Wrocław for the needs of a musical theater is an example of such an approach. This paper discusses exemplary conservation problems in the light of acoustic issues, which the authors solved during design and construction work on the building. The authors demonstrated that the problems can be juxtaposed, and by striving to optimize the solutions, a new, added value can be created.

Opis:
Vibrations in building constructions may propagate through mounting elements to wall cladding panels. It is confirmed that they can have an impact on the sound pressure level radiated from panels and might have a significant influence on the total SPL in a room. In this work possibilities for calculating a parameter determining a change of SPL value depending on the number of panels and its mounting method are presented. A computational model based on vibration velocity measurements was used to estimate the total SPL value in a room. The laboratory and in situ measurements are presented. Transfer function for two elastic elements used as additional elements in a junction was calculated. Finally, ΔLp and ΔLv were calculated, as parameters defining the impact of various panel mounting methods on the reduction of sound pressure level and vibration level value, respectively.

Opis:
In the paper, the authors present an ongoing research on the absorption and measurement uncertainty of perforated panels made at different scales. Knowing the similarity criteria describing the relation between a full-size perforated panel and its scaled equivalent, it is possible to conduct the measurements of the elements of significantly reduced size - with an area not exceeding 0.2 m2. This procedure notably decreases the costs resulting from the production, transportation and storing the measurement samples. At the same time, the obtained values of sound absorption coefficient measured for the samples at 1:8 scale will characterize their full-size equivalents of geometry changed according to the derived similarity criteria. The paper discusses the possibilities of measurement of scaled samples.

Opis:
Geometrical acoustics is the most commonly used method of room acoustics prediction. Its efficiency can be improved by explicit calculation of ray contribution to each receiver during reflection called algebraic reflection. The aim of this research is to analyse the applicability and impact of reflection model choice on algebraic reflection calculation using the ray tracing with next event estimation. The tested reflection models include the specular and Lambert reflection combination and the Phong reflection model. Classical ray tracing algorithm, without algebraic reflections, is used as a reference. Based on simulation results and statistical analysis we conclude that the change of the reflection model significantly affects the acoustics conditions within the simulation changing echograms in early reflections region and the reverberation times. Statistical analysis proved that echograms obtained with the combination of ray tracing with next event estimation and Phong reflection model have lowest simulation to simulation variability.

Opis:
In recent years acoustic metamaterials are broadly investigated in many different fields of acoustics and one of them is noise and vibration mitigation. The solution with highest potential are locally resonant metamaterials (LRS), which by creation of band gap effect in flexural wave propagation in structure improve its Sound Transmission Loss (STL). Standard STL simulation procedures can be fully analytical or numerical. Analytical solution, when it comes to metamaterial modelling, is fast but it does not take into consideration metamaterial geometry. On the other hand numerical solution even when considering small part of periodic structure, is time consuming and can generate numerical errors related for example to the mesh. In this work combined analytical - numerical method is analysed as the alternative for STL calculation. This method can be a substitute for basic simulation procedures concerning vibro-acoustic metamaterials, since the simulations results are comparable and it is less time consuming method. Formulas and simulation procedure for the presented method are described and compared with analytical and numerical simulation results as well as with STL measurement results.

Opis:
Acoustic monopole construction is unsolved task, which engineers try to solve for many years. In the past they constructed many innovative solutions, such as spark or laser-gap sound sources, but those concepts caused many equipment troubles. It is impossible to select type of the measurements signal for this kind of sound sources, also any sparks and laser beams can provide strong electromagnetic distortions around the operation zone. In current state of art we are trying to provide non-standard solutions while traditional omnidirectional sound source, based on spatial configuration of electroacoustic transducers, is not described correctly and can be expanded. Paper presents concept of acoustic monopole source based on coupled configuration for electrodynamic loudspeakers, similar to isobaric setup but non-constant volume between the speakers. By using FEM modelling we will present directivity patterns and project ideas, describing how overall results corresponds with geometrical parameters of speaker configuration and parameters. Presentation summary contain results of prototype device directivity patterns measurements. Received characteristics shows big potential in using cone-to-cone coupled speaker setup to reach acoustic monopole in frequency range defined by distance between transducers. Achieved knowledge allows to provide broadband, easy to build and small acoustic monopole with many possible applications.

Opis:
Many parameters are used for rating the quality of the sound field inside qualified acoustic halls describing the strength, clarity, and definition of the sound. Sound field diffuseness level and spatial impression parameters are used rarely because of the problem in their measurements and interpretation. Previous research on that topic provided some sound field diffuseness coefficients. Some of them are complicated in estimation and measurement. This paper presents a method for the sound field diffuseness level estimation basing on example measurements of the Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic in Łódź, Poland. New directional parameters are proposed based on the statistical analysis of the sound reflections’ incidence angles and their amplitudes with Kolmogorov-Smirnov distance. The paper contains a discussion on the quality evaluation with the proposed method, including analysing the sound field diffuseness and non-uniform spatial distributions of sound reflections. The usability of the selected parameters and their importance for the spatial impression is discussed. The performed experiments allow setting the direction of future work in the field taken of the study, especially applying the proposed method for extended sound field diffuseness ratings with methods based on different physical principles, including directional, energetic, and time coefficients.
