Opis:
We present results of tight binding calculations demonstrating existence of degenerate electronic shells of Dirac fermions in narrow, charge neutral graphene quantum rings. We predict removal of degeneracy with finite magnetic field. We show, using a combination of tight binding and configuration interaction methods, that by filling a graphene ring with additional electrons this carbon based structure with half-filled shell acquires a finite magnetic moment.

Opis:
An (Au/Ti)/Al₂O₃/n-GaAs structure with thin (30 Å) interfacial oxide layer (Al₂O₃), formed by atomic layer deposition technique is fabricated to investigate both frequency and applied bias voltage dependences of real and imaginary parts of dielectric constant (ε' and ε'') and electric modulus (M' and M''), loss tangent tanδ and ac electrical conductivity σ_{AC} in a wide frequency range from 1000 Hz to 1 MHz at room temperature. The dielectric properties of the (Au/Ti)/Al₂O₃/n-GaAs metal-insulator-semiconductor structure are obtained using the forward and reverse bias capacitance-voltage (C-V) and conductance-voltage (G/ω-V) measurements in the applied bias voltage range from -4 V to +4 V, at room temperature. Experimental results show that the dielectric parameters were strongly frequency and voltage dependent. For each frequency the (C-V) plots show a peak and the change in frequency has effect on both the intensity and position of the peak. ε', ε'' and tanδ decrease with increasing frequency, whereas σ_{AC} increases with increasing frequency at applied bias voltage. M' increases with the increasing frequency and reaches a maximum. M'' shows a peak and peak position shifts to higher frequency with increasing applied voltage. It can be concluded that the ε', ε'', tanδ, M', M'' and σ_{AC} values of the (Au/Ti)/Al₂O₃/ n-GaAs structure are strongly dependent on both the frequency and applied bias voltage especially in the depletion and accumulation region. Also, the results can be deduced to imply that the interfacial polarization is easier at low frequencies, therefore contributing to the deviation of dielectric properties and AC electrical conductivity of (Au/Ti)/Al₂O₃/n-GaAs structure.

Opis:
This research concerns the development of solvent-cast lyophilised composite sponges in the bioactive glass-alginate-chitosan system for alveolar bone tissue maintenance following tooth extraction. Hydroxyapatite formed on the surfaces of pure alginate, 50:50 alginate:chitosan blend and pure chitosan sponges blended with 10 wt.% bioactive glass within 7 days of exposure to simulated body fluid, indicating that they possess the potential to stimulate bone tissue formation. In the absence of bioactive glass, pure chitosan sponges also demonstrated in vitro bioactivity, to a lesser extent; unlike pure alginate and 50:50 alginate:chitosan blend, which did not. All samples formed macroporous sponges whose biocompatibility with human osteosarcoma cells increased as a function of chitosan-content. Polyelectrolyte complex formation between alginate and chitosan, and the incorporation of bioactive glass were found to increase the swelling capacity of the sponges in SBF. The findings of this study demonstrate that, bioactive glass-chitosan sponges are the favoured candidates for alveolar bone tissue augmentation as their rate of hydroxyapatite formation and biocompatibility are superior to those of the other samples.

Opis:
In recent times, pomegranate has been one of Turkey’s most important commercial fruit crops for consumption and export. In this study, the chemical composition of pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) fruits grown in the central area of Bitlis province (Eastern Turkey) was investigated. For this purpose, total phenolic content, ascorbic acid content, total anthocyanin and antioxidant activity and minerals content were evaluated. The highest total phenolic contents were determined in 13BIT1 (6477.78 mg gallic acid equivalents 100 g–1 fresh matter). The highest ascorbic acid was determined in 13BIT2 of pomegranate genotype (60.78 mg 100 g–1). Radical scavenging activity (DPPH) were determined between 13BIT18 (78.15) to 13BIT1 (31.49). Total anthocyanin of genotypes was measured between 13BIT19 (156.03) to 13BIT17 (55.37), respectively. The highest mineral compositions of the pomegranate genotypes were 998.00% N, 301.00 mg 100 g–1 P, 1708.61 mg 100 g–1 K, 55.21 mg 100 g–1 Ca, 116.79 mg 100 g–1 Mg, 5.1 mg 100 g–1 Fe, 1.91 mg 100 g–1 Cu, 0.41 mg 100 g–1 Mn and 1.20 mg 100 g–1 Zn, respectively. The results indicate that pomegranate genotypes have an important value of health and nutrition for the human.
