    After leaving a GDR prison, in the 60s, Erich Loest started to write crime stories under the pseudonym Hans Walldorf. His series of only a few novels finishes with the short story collection entitled Oakins macht Karriere. In his stories, presenting the investigations by a London detective Pat Oakins, Loest did a specific kind of travesty of a classic genre convention, going away from a socialistic-didactic character of crime stories in Eastern Germany.
    Po wyjściu z enerdowskiego więzienia Erich Loest zaczął w latach 60. pisać pod pseudonimem Hans Walldorf kryminały. Jego serię zaledwie kilku powieści kończy zbiór opowiadań Oakins macht Karriere. Loest w poszczególnych historiach, opowiadających o toczących się śledztwach prowadzonych przez londyńskiego detektywa Pata Oakinsa, dokonał swoistego rodzaju trawestacji klasycznej konwencji gatunkowej, odchodząc od socjalistyczno-dydaktycznego charakteru kryminału we wschodniej części Niemiec.

    During the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War Erich Maria Remarque’s bestseller “All Quiet on the Western Front” is surpassing successive records of popularity. Commonly considered as an antiwar and pacifist novel, the history of Paul Bäumer, a young soldier on the western front, is rather a novel about a war generation lost in the trenches. Remarque describes this written off generation on the stage of various war-spaces. The first-person narrator who very often switches to the collective ‘we’, is the voice of virtually the whole community of combatants engaged on the side of the German recruits, describes 1) barracks in which it has been attempted to destroy their youth and build their new identity, 2) the latrine at the front that paradoxically secures relative peace for them, 3) earthworks as a prelude to hostilities, 4) trenches/dugouts that are only a waiting-room for death, 5) the home front which is presented in the context of “La Grande Guerre” as an alien and impersonal space, and 6) the military hospital that from the narrator’s Bäumer’s perspective is the war in a minature format. The homodiegetic and autodiegetic method of narration in “All Quiet on the Western Front” is on the one hand based on the visualization of the war-spaces, on the other – on showing, through the making of the narrative semantics of these spaces, the lost generation. Bäumer’s and his companions’s moral-ethical-human fall is related to, and dependent on, the spaces in which they exist and which affect their psychic and physical condition. With the death of the main narrator also dies the space of the narration, however the frame of the narrative spaces remains and documents the cruelty and savagery of the hell of 1914–1918.

    Memoirs in the Novel Form. Hans Fallada’s Gefängnistagebuch 1944 As opposed to other German-speaking authors, Hans Fallada did not decide on emigration from the Hitlerite Germany. The author of the topos of the man in the street stayed in The Third Reich, where, while wanting to keep on writing, he had to subject to the propaganda censorship. Although his books did not appear on the blacklist, he was rather unpopular in the Party. He was imprisoned twice. When being incarcarated in 1944, he started writing a prison diary, a fact which he managed to conceal from the wardens. In these diaries, in the first person, he describes his own struggles as an average citizen of the Nazi Germany. He takes up motifs typical for other compatriots; the reform of the authorities’ system, the so-called internal emigration, which he after did not belong to, his writings despite the existing censorship, or the general attitude towards Jewish people. When it comes to the narrative form, the diary, which content was camouflaged by Fallada in extenso between the lines of The Drinker, partially resembles the genre of memoirs with the first-person narrative voice. Curiously enough, despite using this particular kind of narrator, from whom one can expect far-reaching subjectivity, he remains in his narration extremely mature, precise and above all-credible. As a result, the prison diary is one of the most authentic literary documents concerning the life of a common man in Nazi Germany and a unique insight into his everyday dilemmas.

    Not much has been known about the Komprachcice organ made in 1937 until now. The main purpose of this contribution was to fill this research gap, which was associated with an attempt to reconstruct the process of building the instrument and outline its historical context. By analyzing the available materials and documents preserved in the parish archives in Komprachcice and the archives of one of the most famous organ-building companies of the 19th and 20th centuries, "GFSteinmeyer & Strebel, Orgel- und Harmoniumbau" based in Oettingen, it was possible to reproduce the subsequent stages of work on the construction of the organ from the moment of determining the technical conditions through the following implementation phases. The exact query also cleared up some unclear points related to the construction of the organ in the Komprachcice Catholic Church, which since then, after necessary repairs, has been used by the faithful to this day. The research also allowed to identify an earlier unknown designer of the church in Komprachcice and an employee who did not appear in the G.F.Steinmeyer archives.

    For the New Objectivity art, both literature and paintings, urban reality played a significant role. The aesthetics of the New Objectivity, movement that bloomed in the 20s and 30s, was defined through urban issues. This tendency can be observed primarily in the so-called Zeitroman that became a topic of interest for German literary studies earlier. In contrast to the prose, the New Objectivity poetry was rarely an object of studies. In the article, selected urban verses are analysed and connected with the New Objectivity paintings on a modernist background.

    Artykuł zamierza odpowiedzieć na pytanie, czy w ogóle istnieje w Polsce subgatunek regionalnej powieści kryminalnej. W przeciwieństwie do polskiej rzeczywistości literackiej na zachodzie Europy, przede wszystkim w Niemczech, cieszy się on wśród czytelników sporą popularnością. Wyróżnia się nie tylko konkretnym (regionalnym) sznytem przestrzennym, ale też innymi elementami narracyjnymi, jak np. dialektem. Dlaczego jednak nad Wisłą do tej pory kryminał regionalny tkwi w niebycie lub przyjmuje inne kształty gatunkowe? Czy jest w stanie wyjść z cienia kryminałów historycznych albo miejskich? Właśnie te zagadnienia znajdują się w centrum zainteresowania artykułu, który próbuje z perspektywy strukturalistycznej oraz tzw. teorii literatury regionalnej naświetlić kompozycję kryminału typu regio. Powołując się na pewien literacki przykład, ukazuje, jak polski regional crime fiction mógłby wyglądać, gdyby samo pojęcie zostało terminologicznie dopracowane i było przede wszystkim w samym dyskursie wykorzystywane.
    The article sets out to answer the question whether there exists a subgenre of regional crime fiction in Poland. In Europe and particularly in Germany, unlike in Poland, it enjoys considerable popularity among the readers. It stands out not just due to its region-specific geographical features but also certain elements of the narrative, such as dialect. Why is the regional crime fiction in Poland virtually non-existent or adapted to fit other subgenres? Is there any scope for it to come out of the shadows of subgenres such as historical or urban crime fiction? This article pivots around those questions, attempts to outline the structure of regional crime fiction, and introduces an example to demonstrate what Polish novels in this subgenre could aim to be.

    The novel Selbs Mord ends up the series of Bernhard Schlink’s detective stories about the private detective Gerhard Selb. Schlink’s last detective novel, unlike the earlier ones, did not meet a warm reception among the critics. Notwithstanding, the reviewers did not take into account a one important feature of the text – both with respect to the content and the structure. Selbs Mord is namely an attempt of a deconstruction, a farewell with the detective novel as a genre. A real suicide of the genre.

    The aim of the following paper was to analyse the history of crime literature genre – which is perceived in the terms of kitsch and structural conventionality – from the perspective of religious morality, ethics and aesthetics, in order to show that between theology and bloody crime fiction there are many similarities. Criminal poetry is not only close to the Bible and Christian philosophy in respect of the subject matter or used motives, but also in regard to the conceptual narrative means that were used. One can even venture the statement that crime novel – this term stands for its various variants – on the one hand derives from the biblical theology, on the other hand creates a kind of “new Bible” on his own and a specific religion: the so-called religion in-between, religion between impious crime and pious crime solving.
