Opis:
The advancement of humanity has culminated in artificial intelligence and it cannot do without the measurement of time and the existence of different calendars, such as the one used today, which has notable religious influences. Starting from a reflection on the relationship among artificial intelligence, the fundamental right of religious freedom, and the various types of calendars, the study focuses on highlighting the religious influences which are inside the calendar used throughout the world, their months and days. This calendar is based on the Roman calendar, which was reformed by Julius Caesar, and corrected centuries later, by the reform carried out by Pope Gregory XIII. This is followed by a brief exposition of a purely religious calendar such as the Muslim one, as well as the frustrated attempts to establish secular calendars during the French and Russian revolutions, in the 18th and 20th centuries, respectively

Opis:
Knowledge of Vedic time reckoning was preserved in the Ṛk- and Yajurveda recensions of the Jyotiṣavedāṅga. Most of the verses of the two treatises convey the same meaning and provide a lecture on the measurement of time and its division. Some basic mathematical operations are also applied in order to calculate specific data important for the performance of Vedic ritual. This paper discusses some of the stanzas and examines the terminology applied for the sake of time reckoning.

The primary goal of this paper is a detailed publication of the little known mizwala munharifa (vertical sundial), still preserved on the madrasa belonging to the funerary complex of the Sultan Al-Ashraf Inal (no. 158), on the so-called Cairo North Cemetery. This sundial, dating back to Rabi I, year 871 [AH] – i.e. 11.10.-09.11.1466 AD – is a work of the otherwise unknown ‘poor Hassan al-Tayybi’, pupil of the famous mathematician and astronomer (and a longtime muwaqqit of the Al-Azhar) Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Ġazal, widely known as Badr or Sibt al-Din al-Mar[i]dini (AD 1423–1506). Further on, comparing the mizwala in question with two other sundials preserved in the city center, author attempts to approach the function and role this instrument might have played within the social context of the local population inhabiting the north-east Cairo suburbs (Cairo ‘fuori le mura’, the ‘North Cemetery’ included) – dominated, by the end of the mamluk period, by numerous sufi communities.

Opis:
The article deals with an exegetical misunderstanding revolving around the purported existence of two different ways of reckoning the hours of the day in antiquity, and consequently in the Gospels: an alleged Roman mode (in John’s Gospel) and the Jewish one (in the Synoptics). Among Johannine scholars a disagreement exists over the issue of which system was embraced by the Evangelist. While the majority claim that John followed the known Jewish system of reckoning hours, a minority argue that another, distinctively Roman system was being employed in the FG. In its first part, the article reviews extrabiblical ancient literature to demonstrate that, while the Romans in fact had two systems of marking the beginning of the day (dies civilis, legitimus – starting at midnight, and dies naturalis, verus – starting at sunrise), the manner of reckoning the hours of the day (and the night) was precisely the same for the Romans as for the Jews. In the second part, both systems are applied to four specific Johannine references to the hours of the day (1:39; 4:6; 4:52; and 19:14) in order to assess which method of reckoning the hours better suits the literary context of each narrative. While this internal analysis of the Johannine text is inconclusive, our assessment of the external, extrabiblical evidence points to the conclusion that the ancients, including John the Evangelist, used only one, nearly universal manner of reckoning the hours, i.e. beginning from sunrise.

Opis:
The issue of the liturgical calendar of the Orthodox Church is one of the topics currently being discussed. Using the julian or neojulian liturgical calendar raises in faithful not only dilemmas or doubts, but also confusion, as shown by discussions on some social networking sites. The author of this text wants to bring closer reader to the problems of this issue and clarify the liturgical and calendar duality. This paper also develops such topics as the history of the christian calendar, reckoning of years, creation of calendars: julian, gregorian and neojulian, as well as problems arising from using two calendars within one local Church. This work shows that the use of one kind or another calendar is not a violation of dogma, but may lead to a breach of a rule, established at the time of the Ecumenical Councils. You should be aware that the julian calendar was not strictly a calendar set up for the liturgical aims, but it was adapted for formulating the liturgical order. Experience of the liturgical life shows that, even though type of calendar is not a dogma, entering neojulian calendar permanently divided some local Orthodox communities. Introduction of neojulian calendar was not necessary, and the events at the beginning of the twentieth century is warning to refrain from taking radical action to reform liturgical life. Certainly this is a difficult issue that requires common action under the providence of Grace of the Holy Spirit.

Opis:
The main task of the study is to present the computational tools used by Durandus. The time of his scientific activity falls on the early period of computation development, and individual computists based their work on various elements of the computus, referring to Dionysius, Isidore of Seville, Bede the Venerable or Alexander of Villedieu (d. 1240). The aim of this study is also to analyse and diagnose the Durandus calculation algorithm and its originality in the computistic matter. Durandus’ study refers to the works of earlier commputists, and its originality lies in the selection of content. Some chronological issues are presented extensively (such as a 19-year cycle or months). Others, however, are only signalled in his work (such as the issue of concurrents or claves terminorum, which needed to be developed in the content of the article). The concise concept of the ecclesiastical computus contained in the Rationale divinorum officiorum refers in its content to the findings of the computists of the Roman calculation of Easter. His treatise, although setting out the rules of conduct in liturgical matters, strengthens and popularizes the Roman system of Paschal calculus adopted from its predecessors, and also defines the Church computus as an important element of the functioning of canon law.

Opis:
After 1989 the number of translations of Bulgarian literature into Polish decreased dramatically in comparison with the output of the previous 50 years. On the one hand, this seems to be caused by a complete change of the Polish state’s cultural policy principles, too little activity on the part of relevant institutions, or even giving up the obligation to create and support the inter‑cultural dialogue or to mediate in this process. On the other hand, it is primarily market economy and interest of the media and not the efforts or commitment of the translators that are decisive factors for the number and quality of publications.
