Opis:
Bird cherry-oat aphid (Rhopalosiphum padi L.) is the most abundant aphid species on cereals in Poland. It represents approximately 80% of all cereal aphids. Its anholocyclic forms are the most important vectors of Barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV). These forms are new among the Polish population of R. padi. Their changes in development are the result of higher temperatures. High spring and summer temperatures initiate a change in the run of R. padi’s life cycle, which begins to reproduce by means of permanent parthenogenesis. In autumn, this aphid does not fly back to the primary host but inhabits wild grasses. It is in autumn that winter cereals emerge. This results in what appears to be a new problem because this viral infection spreads in warmer environmental conditions.

Opis:
Eugeniusz Romer maintained that the notion of Central Europe, introduced at the end of the 19th century by German geographers was of a distinct geopolitical character. The thesis that Poland is situated in a transitional zone between the Western and the Eastern Europe denies Poland the right to an independent political existence. Romer's opinion was that the location of Poland is characterised by its bridge-like situation between the Baltic and the Black Seas. This location determines the geopolitical identity of Poland as well as its rights to independence. Romer's arguments, supported by cartographic, demographic and ethnographic research became the basis for the determination of the area and the borders of Poland at the peace conference in Paris (1919 - 1920).

Opis:
The topic of the article is a description of European urbonyms which fulfilled both political and commemorative roles in the past. The city names are presented in chronological order starting from ancient times to the 20th century. The ancient toponyms are related to the expansion of the Roman Empire, and the names of Roman emperors are used as a foundation for these toponyms. Such urbonyms created on the outskirts of the Roman Empire made reference to their new political allegiance and confirmed it. These naming practices therefore played an important role in the process of territorial expansion and the consolidation of political control. This naming model was also present in Byzantium, and became popular on the outskirts of medieval Ruthenia under the influence of the Byzantine Empire. The tradition of commemorating political rulers through toponyms stayed constant in the Eastern Slavic regions, and was continued by the Russian monarchy as well as the USSR. Such naming practices were initially used as a tool for the structural organisation of Kievan Rus’, and later to erase foreign names from these regions of Tsarist Russia. In Communist times, this tradition reaffirmed the new political reality through the use of surnames of political figures in toponyms. In the 20th century there was an increase in surnames featured in urbanonyms (the names of streets, squares, housing estates). This increase was meant to preserve the memory of remarkable individuals in society.

Opis:
This article seeks to understand the contemporary emergence of a set of conflicts involving quilombola communities in the Baixo Sul da Bahia, a region located in the northeastern Brazilian coast. Although they may be directly associated with the process of land speculation linked to the recent advance of tourist interest in the region, these conflicts also have an intrinsic relationship with a series of historical political practices that show that these communities have been experiencing constant expropriation of access to nature and permanence in the territories, being excluded from their traditional practices. The history of the Baixo Sul is marked by the presence of a black peasantry that, starting in 2003, began to recognize itself as a quilombola, accessing the institutional channels opened by the federal government to guarantee rights and public policies. Thus, although the process of fighting for territory is a long one, this article focuses on the most recent period of the last four decades, aiming mainly to present connections and elements that help to understand the conflicts for territory that are present in the region today. To this end, the case of two quilombola communities will be presented in order to exemplify the contemporaneity, continuity, and violence of the process of expropriation of rural communities in the Baixo Sul. Through research data collected from fieldwork, bibliographical materials, as well as other selected sources, this article discusses the process of land speculation and the expansion of tourism ventures in the region, highlighting the forms of appropriation of territory, population and nature, as well as strategies of resistances that the communities use while facing the advance of the tourism industry.
