Opis:: The production of wood-based furniture is the final stage in the wood processing chain. Foreign trade in furniture indicates the success of the sector and its competitiveness on international markets. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the trade competitiveness, and its trend, in the furniture manufacturing industry in both the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic for a period of ten years, through the implementation of indicators based on industry foreign trade data and using mathematical and statistical methods. A system of indicators was set up and the hypothesis: “In the furniture industry the competitive potential is used insufficiently” was proposed. The results achieved confirmed the hypothesis, however, despite the furniture industry showing an active foreign trade balance, it contributed little to the country’s trade balance surplus and low values of the indicators of Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) were achieved. Therefore, the industry gradually loses its competitive ability.

Opis:: This article presents a modular device for horizontal and vertical pressure and impact testing that can be used for the construction of many devices for furniture testing, and it has been developed in the Strategic Program carried out as part of the Operational Program–Innovative Economy [1]. Based on these modules, two devices were constructed: one for testing impact resistance of furniture (tables, chairs, baby cots), and the other is for testing office chair seats and for testing rotation on swivel chairs. The article emphasises the measurement and control system solutions based on modern PLC controllers. The constructed measurement and control system allows easier use of the devices and provides additional information about the functioning of devices that have not been registered before, such as the following: vibration level, working time of various units, and statistics for the element studied. Additionally, the article presents solutions for the operator’s control panel supporting machine operation.
W artykule przedstawiono opracowane w ramach Programu Strategicznego realizowanego w ramach Programu Operacyjnego Innowacyjna Gospodarka [1] moduły do wywierania nacisków pionowych i poziomych oraz do uderzeń pionowych i poziomych, które służą do zbudowania wielu urządzeń do badań testowych mebli. Na bazie tych modułów realizowano dwa urządzenia do testowania udarności mebli (stoły, krzesła, łóżeczka dziecięce) oraz do badań podstawy krzeseł biurowych i testu obracania krzesła krzeseł obrotowych. W artykule zwrócono szczególną uwagę na rozwiązania systemu pomiarowo-sterującego, zrealizowanego na nowoczesnym sterowniku PLC. Zrealizowany system pomiarowo-sterujący ułatwia obsługę urządzeń oraz dostarcza dodatkowych informacji o pracy urządzeń, które dotychczas nie były rejestrowane, jak np.: poziom drgań, czas pracy poszczególnych zespołów, statystyki badanych elementów. Pokazano także rozwiązania pulpitu operatora, które wspomagają obsługę urządzeń.

Opis:: The furniture industry in Poland is a rapidly growing area of the economy. The level of innovation strongly influences furniture enterprises competitive position on the market. To support innovation, small and medium furniture industry businesses are affiliate in cluster initiatives. It supports the area of R&D, joint promotional campaigns and financing of new ventures. The paper presents selected furniture industry cluster initiatives that implement policies to support innovation activities of enterprises affiliated to them. In Poland, more and more furniture industry businesses brings together in cluster initiatives that aim to improve their market competitiveness and increase the level of innovation. Taken studies allow to analyse the direction of innovative activities undertaken by companies of the furniture industry with particular emphasis on the ones associated in clusters. Thus the aim of the article is to investigate the interest of Polish furniture enterprises (especially SMEs), in participation in clusters. Moreover the benefits of that choice and its impact on Polish furniture manufacturers innovativeness are evaluated.

Opis:: In the years of independence Uzbekistan has diffused market oriented economy while consumer behavior and analyze consumer’s level of satisfaction has also altered positively on this way. Using a questionnaire survey and in-depth interviews with respondents’ the consumer behavior the study examines the product attribution. Hence, consumers consider important when choosing furniture for household use. The results indicate that Uzbek consumers’ purchasing relations and behavior mainly on the furniture quality, design and the price. Consequently, practical suggestions and recommendations were formulated for industry policy and strategy while making deep analyses as whole.

Opis:: Innovative systems of movement of elements and subassemblies used in kitchen furniture for people with reduced mobility. The article presents innovative design solutions developed by the domestic company JATI, solutions that enhance the functionality of kitchen furniture intended for the elderly and wheelchair users, as well as a solution allowing for the installation of wall-mounted cabinets in the case of partition walls with insufficient load-bearing capacity. The design solutions concern: a top kitchen cabinet that can be lowered and brought closer to the user, a drawer beneath the countertop that can be pulled out and lifted upwards, as well as a system for raising and supporting a large countertop with attached components. These solutions were analyzed using analytical methods and empirically tested to determine their technical and user-related parameters. After developing the solutions, they were registered as original utility designs.
Innowacyjne systemy ruchu elementów i podzespołów zastosowane w meblach kuchennych dla osób z ograniczoną sprawnością ruchową. W niniejszym artkule przedstawiono innowacyjne rozwiązania konstrukcyjne wykonane w krajowej firmie JATI, rozwiązania zwiększające funkcjonalność mebli kuchennych przeznaczonych dla osób starszych oraz poruszających się w wózkach oraz rozwiązanie umożliwiające montaż szafek wiszących w przypadku ścian działowych o niewystarczającej nośności. Rozwiązania konstrukcyjne dotyczą: szafki kuchennej górnej opuszczanej i przybliżanej do użytkownika oraz szuflady pod płytą wierzchnią wysuwanej i unoszonej do góry a także systemu do podnoszenia, podtrzymania dużej płyty wierzchniej z dołączonymi podzespołami. Rozwiązania te analizowano metodami analitycznymi oraz testowano empirycznie w celu określenia ich parametrów techniczno-użytkowych. Po opracowaniu rozwiązań zastrzeżono je jako oryginalne wzory użytkowe.

Opis:: This article analyses the furniture created in Lithuania during the interwar period. Today, from a time perspective, we can shed light on the development of furniture making, with the aim to reveal the furniture designers and the particular interiors where this kind of furniture became popular, as well as the styles that influenced them. In this paper, the author mostly describes artistic designs for secular interiors. The selection was based on the fact that this furniture best reflects the prevailing tendencies when it comes to design during a particular period. After independence was restored to Lithuania, the design of produced furniture became more modern and similar to that of Western Europe. This was caused by the educative propaganda in the media and the new generation of architects and artists who had graduated from universities in western countries. The new, rational construction of houses where all the free rooms were usually rented during the crisis caused demand of space-saving furniture. The architects usually designed both buildings and the built-in furniture with that concept in mind. Architects attempted to tailor built-in furniture to the user’s needs and financial capabilities in the most optimal way. Built-in modular storage systems, kitchen cupboards, and bookshelves were conceived as architectural components. They were used to divide and to model the space. The small living space required the number of furniture pieces to be reduced. That is why unit furniture became the second-most trending innovation during the interwar period. The combination of wardrobes, bookcases, and sideboards into one piece was the most popular modular unit furniture. Tables with shelves and couches with consoles were also popular examples of space-saving furniture. These modern innovations of furniture were made in art déco style since the late 1920s. The search for Lithuanian national style was particularly relevant in the interwar period and design was used as an instrument for political purpose. This is obviously prevalent in the furniture of representation interiors. Leading architects like Vytautas Landsbergis-Zemkalnis, Bronius Elsbergas, and Arnas Funkas, and also some popular artists such as Jonas Prapuolenis, Antanas Gudaitis, and Gerardas Bagdonavicius, designed not only furniture innovations but also furniture in the Lithuanian national style as part of their representative-interior projects. Country-wide Lithuanian exhibitions and presentations abroad were also dominated by the Lithuanian national style, propagated by the authorities. Interpretations of ethnic furniture decor and forms, as well as national symbols became dominant in all Lithuanian-national-style furniture.

Opis:: The choice of furniture does not only affect the comfort of one’s life or work space. Materials utilized in furniture production may contribute to the quality of chemical microclimate in rooms and have an influence on the users’ health. Plenty of substances used in the furniture industry have negative effects on human health. These effects are usually of low intensity. However, they occur over a long period of time and as a result they may even lead directly to permanent health problems. Consumer lifestyle boosts frequent changes in interior decoration. The changes include mainly replacing furniture and household appliances. The furniture industry offers a wide range of products to satisfy the growing needs of buyers. Mass production results in a significant increase in the exploitation of natural resources and (often) leads to degradation of the natural environment. The downsides of mass furniture production are usually considered only in terms of utilizing various resources. Producers, however, implement measures to reduce the consumption of materials and energy. Their aim is to cut the production costs and lower the final price of manufactured goods. Worn out furniture, produced from highly processed materials is not biodegradable. Such waste is a heavy burden on the natural environment. The paper describes „the life cycle” of furniture items and presents a critical analysis of raw materials and intermediate products used in the furniture industry in the context of sustainable development (the impact on human health and on the condition of the natural environment). It may serve as a means to promote pro-health and pro-environmental awareness. A thorough assessment of the furniture available on the market may facilitate in making conscious decisions which will also take into consideration additional technical criteria. The choice of furniture neutral for people as well as for the environment is not an easy task and often involves higher spending.
Zakup wyposażenia meblarskiego wpływa nie tylko na komfort zamieszkiwania lub pracy. Materiały wykorzystywane w produkcji mebli mogą mieć wpływ na jakość mikroklimatu chemicznego w pomieszczeniach i zdrowie użytkowników. Wiele stosowanych substancji jest szkodliwych dla zdrowia ludzi. Negatywne oddziaływania mają zwykle niskie natężenie, jednak trwają bardzo długo. Mogą mieć one zatem pośredni wpływ nawet na trwałe pogorszenie stanu zdrowia. Konsumpcyjny styl życia sprzyja częstej wymianie wyposażenia wnętrz. Masowa produkcja istotnie wpływa na wzrost eksploatacji zasobów naturalnych oraz (często) na pogorszenie stanu środowiska naturalnego. Negatywne zjawiska są najczęściej rozpatrywane jedynie w kontekście użytkowania różnych produktów. Producenci prowadzą jednak działania mające na celu zmniejszenie materiało- i energochłonności. Ich rezultatem ma być obniżenie kosztów produkcji i finalnej ceny oferowanych wyrobów. Zużyte meble wykonane z mocno przetworzonych materiałów nie ulegają biodegradacji. Ich odpady stanowią duże obciążenie dla środowiska naturalnego. W artykule zostanie opisany „cykl życiowy” mebli oraz przedstawiona krytyczna analiza surowców i półproduktów do wyrobu mebli w kontekście zrównoważonego rozwoju (wpływ na zdrowie człowieka, stan środowiska naturalnego). Opracowanie może służyć upowszechnieniu wiedzy prozdrowotnej, a także proekologicznej. Rzetelna ocena dostępnych na rynku mebli może umożliwić podejmowanie bardziej świadomych decyzji uwzględniających dodatkowe, techniczne kryteria. Wybór neutralnych dla człowieka i środowiska produktów meblowych nie jest bowiem łatwy. Wiąże się zwykle z większymi nakładami finansowymi.

Opis:: Strength properties of furniture corner joints constructed with different wooden connectors and wood-based materials. The aims of this study were to determine the influence of the type of invisible wooden connectors on the strength in glued corner joints for chipboard and MDF, the most popular boards in box furniture. Three variants of connectors arrangement were considered: variant I - with the use of 4 wood grooven beech dowels, Variant II - with the use 2 beech Domino pins, Variant III - connectors mixed arrangement. Experiment results indicated that samples prepared using joining with dowels provided the highest strength values of all variants (F=1169 N for MDF panel, F= 617 for chipboard panel). Moreover, it has been observed that the corner connection with Domino pins is the type of connection with the lowest strength. It is worth noting that the above tendency was observed in both types of wood-based panels. The influence of the material also turned out to be a statistically significant factor in the analysis of joint strength. The use of MDF panel increased the strength values ,by 47% of the dowel joint, by 36% of the Domino pins and 34% of the connectors mixed arrangement, compared to their use in chipboard.
Właściwości wytrzymałościowe narożników meblowych z zastosowaniem różnych łączników drewnianych i materiałów drewnopochodnych. Celem pracy było określenie wpływu rodzaju niewidocznych łączników drewnianych na wytrzymałość połączeń klejonych narożników konstrukcji mebli skrzyniowych dla płyty wiórowej i MDF, materiałów najczęściej stosowanych przy tego typu meblach. Rozważono trzy warianty rozmieszczenia łączników: wariant I - z wykorzystaniem 4 kołków bukowych ryflowanych, wariant II - z wykorzystaniem 2 kołków bukowych Domino, wariant III - układ mieszany łączników. Wyniki eksperymentu wykazały, że próbki połączone na kołki wykazały najwyższe wartości wytrzymałości ze wszystkich wariantów (F=1169 N dla płyty MDF, F= 617 dla płyty wiórowej). Ponadto zaobserwowano, że połączenia narożne z kołkami Domino wykazywały najniższą wytrzymałość. Warto zauważyć, że powyższą tendencję zaobserwowano dla obu płyt drewnopochodnych. Wpływ materiału okazał się czynnikiem istotnym statystycznie. Zastosowanie płyty MDF zwiększyło wartości wytrzymałościowe (o 47% w przypadku połączenia kołkowego, o 36% przy łącznikach Domino i o 34% przy układzie mieszanym) w porównaniu z ich zastosowaniem w płycie wiórowej.

Opis:: Workplace safety in furniture industry plants (selected aspects). The practical aim of the study was to define the safety of the working environment of persons employed in the furniture industry in the local labor market of the Opole Voivodeship based on selected aspects. For this purpose, data related to occupational hazards, causes of accidents at work and accident rates were used. The paper recommends a method of recognizing the working conditions, with particular emphasis on the work environment. An analysis of selected indicators shaping safety the work environment was performed. It has been found that despite the apparent improvements in this field, it is still on an unsatisfactory level.
Bezpieczeństwo pracy w zakładach produkujących meble (wybrane aspekty). Celem praktycznym opracowania była próba określenia bezpieczeństwa pracy osób zatrudnionych w branży meblarskiej na lokalnym rynku pracy województwa opolskiego na podstawie wybranych aspektów. Realizacja celu została oparta na analizie danych odnoszących się do zagrożeń zawodowych, przyczyn wypadków przy pracy oraz poziomu wypadkowości. W artykule zaproponowano sposób ujmowania warunków pracy, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem środowiska pracy. Dokonano analizy wybranych wskaźników kształtujących bezpieczeństwo pracy. Stwierdzono, że pomimo widocznej poprawy w tym zakresie, nadal jest ono na niezadawalającym poziomie.

Opis:: The importance of kitchen furniture ergonomics for people with disabilities. The goal of this paper is to evaluate the kitchen equipment for people with disabilities from the point of view of furniture ergonomics and their adaptation to the needs of this social group. Research has shown that the majority of respondents are not satisfied with the equipment of their kitchen and, having such an opportunity, would make changes to it. At the same time, the responses showed little knowledge of people with disabilities about the available design solutions for furniture available on the market.
Znaczenie ergonomii mebli kuchennych przeznaczonych dla osób niepełnosprawnych. Celem artykułu była ocena wyposażenia kuchni osób niepełnosprawnych z punktu widzenia ergonomii mebli i ich dostosowania do potrzeb tej grupy społecznej. Badania wykazały, że większość ankietowanych nie jest zadowolona z wyposażenia swojej kuchni i mając taką możliwość dokonałaby w niej zmian. Odpowiedzi ankietowanych wykazały jednocześnie niewielką wiedzę osób niepełnosprawnych na temat dostępnych rozwiązań konstrukcyjnych mebli dostępnych na rynku

Opis:: Social factors affecting consumer decisions during purchasing furniture in Poland. The aim of this study was to analyse social factors affecting consumer decisions during purchasing furniture in Poland. Currently, it is very important to understand purchasing behaviour for the purpose of developing marketing strategy for better understanding of customer needs. The situation on Polish furniture market is dynamically changing and there is a need to determine how customers make decisions. In order to find those factors a survey of 1272 respondents was carried out. Survey was conducted during March to May 2022 in Śląskie Voivodeship. The questions asked were focused to areas such as: product quality, comfort of furniture use, design and costs. Obtained results were compared and significant correlation was observe between demographic and economic factors and purchasing decisions among respondents.
Wpływ czynników społecznych na decyzje konsumenckie przy wyborze mebli w Polsce. Celem niniejszych badań było określenie czynników społecznych wpływających na decyzje konsumenckie przy wyborze mebli w Polsce. W dzisiejszych czasach istotnym jest zrozumienie zachowań nabywców w celu opracowania przynoszących zyski strategii marketingowych. Sytuacja na polskim rynku meblarskim zmienia się dynamicznie i istnieje potrzeba podjęcia próby wskazania w jaki sposób klienci podejmują decyzję o wyborze a następnie zakupie danego produktu. W celu wyznaczenia najistotniejszych czynników w marcu 2022 przeprowadzono badania na grupie 1272 respondentów na terenie województwa śląskiego. Zadawane pytania dotyczyły takich obszarów jak: jakość produktu, komfort użytkowania mebli, wzornictwo oraz koszty zakupu. Uzyskane wyniki porównano i zaobserwowano istotną korelację pomiędzy czynnikami demograficznymi i ekonomicznymi a decyzjami zakupowymi respondentów.

Opis:: Selected bending properties of mineral-acrylic solid surface material for furniture construction purposes. The aim of this work was to characterize the bending properties of selected, commercially available panels made with the use of mineral acrylic fillers and thermoplastic matrix (trade names Corian and Staron), with regard to thermal forming. The research showed that when the temperature of the tested materials rises from 20 to 160°C, there is a significant reduction in the value of bending strength (by over 90% for Corian and about 80% for Staron) and the modulus of elasticity (by almost 99% for Corian and by 97% for Staron), which should definitely improve the thermoformability of these materials. Among the two tested materials, Staron is a material that is more susceptible to shape modification at elevated temperatures.
Wybrane właściwości przy zginaniu materiałów mineralno-akrylowych o zwartej powierzchni do zastosowań przy wytwarzaniu mebli. Celem badań było scharakteryzowanie właściwości podczas zginania wybranych, dostępnych w handlu płyt wykonanych z wykorzystaniem mineralnych wypełniaczy akrylowych i matrycy termoplastycznej (nazwy handlowe Corian i Staron), w kontekście formowania termicznego. Badania wykazały, że przy wzroście temperatury badanych materiałów od 20 do 160°C następuje istotne zmniejszenie wartości wytrzymałości na zginanie (o ponad 90% dla Corianu i około 80% dla Staronu) oraz modułu sprężystości przy zginaniu (o niemal 99% dla Corianu oraz o 97% dla Staronu), co powinno zdecydowanie poprawiać podatność na termoformowanie tych materiałów. Spośród dwóch przebadanych materiałów, Staron jest materiałem charakteryzującym się większą podatnością na modyfikację kształtu w podwyższonej temperaturze.

Opis:: The deformation of furniture units plays a significant role in their effective and efficient way of use during the overall service life. Accurate information on the deformation of different types of furniture members can be determined and evaluated by current testing methods. However, this will not only be expensive but also destructive. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to obtain initial data to predict the types and magnitudes of deformation which take place in various furniture works due to certain stress distribution. Such predictions were carried out by employing engineering analysis within the scope of the statistical approach. AutoCAD and SolidWorks software were used to design the furniture while the ANSYS finite element program route was employed for engineering analysis in this work. The joint types and stresses were applied as follows: dowel type joints having an equivalent stress level ranging from 0.20-0.96 MPa and a deformation level ranging from 0.0010.82 mm; mortise and tenon joints having an equivalent stress level ranging from 0.17-2.68 MPa, deformation level ranging from 0.02-0.17 mm. Minifix type joints having an equivalent stress level ranging from 0.07-17.6 MPa, and a deformation level ranging from 0.03-1.42 mm. It appears that the engineering tools used in this study can successfully be applied to determine the deformation behaviors of furniture units.

Opis:: In the article perspective directions of development of furniture design are reviewed and revealed based on analysis of current conditions and trends of its evolution, including the following basics: providing consumers with a wide choice of different furniture considering the vital needs and incomes of different groups of the population; a further research of new ergonomic solutions in furniture design; development and implementation of new environmentally friendly and durable materials in furniture, that ensure the health of a person; search for new and improving modern structures and materials, the use of universal and transforming furniture; introduction of innovative methods, including information technology and software management of furniture; a comprehensive consideration of the different aestethic tastes of consumers taking into account the different socio-cultural traditions. This structuring of the prospects of the development of furniture opens up the possibility of a comprehensive approach for the predicted directions of creating high-quality furniture in the near future, and will contribute to the most reliable sources defining the requirements and conditions of their realization in modern architectural environment.
