Opis:
Objective: The aim of this article is to analyze and evaluate the introduction of selected Lean Manufacturing tools into the management of a given enterprise, the task of which is to increase the efficiency of the machine park and improve the quality of finished products. The introduced changes are also expected to increase the detectability of waste, avoid unnecessary stopping of machines and unplanned stoppages. Design/methodology/approach: As part of the research, the internal materials of the surveyed company were analyzed and free interviews with employees and specialists of the plant were conducted. An efficiency analysis of the production process was carried out. Findings: In order for the improvement of technical progress to function well, the requirement of an appropriate technical condition and the course of technical progress. The entire process flow of the product should be analyzed. Research limitations/implications: Subjectivity of the analysis thanks to the use of a qualitative approach in research. Future research may be related to creating a mentoring program in the area of interest. Practical implications: The results of the study can be used as input data for the design of training programs in the study area. Social implications: The concept of lean manufacturing is a tool for constant changes that can be observed both in the modern economy and in society. They require dynamic flexibility from entrepreneurs and looking for solutions that can optimize production processes. The concept includes a slogan such as corporate social responsibility, which grew out of sustainable development. It is prioritized by managers of various companies. Therefore, this work deals with the subject of Lean Management as an instrument of responsible business. Originality/value: This article is addressed mainly to companies that want to implement and improve Lean Manufacturing tools. It shows how companies can improve selected areas of production.

Opis:
The rate of growth in terms of the changes of dynamics in logistics is due to the development in services, including physical, information and financial flows, important for the entities of numerous economic sectors. The contemporary logistics not only has to catch up with the current changes, but also, in many cases, it must get ahead of them, meeting the expectations of its clients. A constant element of the logistics activity should be both the investigation and forecasting of the changes. A growing complexity of business processes in the globalised economy, based on knowledge in the business environment with complex corporate relations, makes the managers support the decision-making processes using state-of-the-art information technology (IT) tools. An essential supporting role is fulfilled by the integrated management systems, ensuring a cohesion and control of the internal and external processes performance in the enterprise operation. The article aims at presenting the role of integrated management systems, considered as tools supporting business logistics processes. It demonstrates the specificity of the operation of a selected economic organization, which makes the management apply unitary measures. With the development of integrated systems in mind - and using the example of the case study - the solutions were demonstrated, the aim of which is to effectively support the management of purchases, supplies and maintenance within the department in the enterprise under study, especially the logistics processes. An essential element of the research is the role of innovativeness in the logistics development, including the implementation of the latest teleinformation technology solutions.

Opis:
Purpose – Environmental degradation resulting from human activities may adversely affect human health in multiple ways. Until now, policies aimed at mitigating environmental problems such as climate change, environmental pollution and damage to biodiversity have failed to clearly identify and drive the potential benefits of these policies on health. The conducted study assesses and demonstrates how specific environmental policies and instruments influence perceived human health in order to ensure input for a data-driven decision process. Design/methodology/approach – The study was conducted for the 2004–2020 period in European Union (EU) countries with the use of dynamic panel data modeling. Verification of specific policies’ impact on dependent variables allows to indicate this their effectiveness and importance. As a result of the computed dynamic panel data models, it has been confirmed that a number of significant and meaningful relationships between the self-perceived health index and environmental variables can be identified. Findings – There is a strong positive impact of environmental taxation on the health index, and the strength of this relationship causes effects to be observed in the very short term, even the following year. In addition, the development of renewable energy sources (RES) and the elimination of fossil fuels from the energy mix exert positive, although milder, effects on health. The reduction of ammonia emissions from agriculture and reducing noise pollution are other health-supporting factors that have been shown to be statistically valid. Results allow to identify the most efficient policies in the analyzed area in order to introduce those with the best results or a mix of such measures. Originality/value – The results of the authors’ research clearly indicate the health benefits of measures primarily aimed at improving environmental factors, such as environmental taxes in general. The authors have also discovered an unexpected negative impact of an increase in the share of energy taxes in total taxes on the health index. The presented study opens several possibilities for further investigation, especially in the context of the rapidly changing geopolitical environment and global efforts to respond to environmental and health challenges. The authors believe that the outcome of the authors’ study may provide new arguments to policymakers pursuing solutions that are not always easily acceptable by the public.

Opis:
Alternating current a.c. measurements enable to understand the physical and chemical processes occurring in semiconductor materials. Impedance spectroscopy has been successfully applied to study the responses of gas sensors based on metal oxides, such as TiO2, SnO2 and TiO2/SnO2 nanocomposites. This work is devoted to dynamic measurements of hydrogen sensor behaviour over the temperature range of 300-450°C. Frequency dependence of the impedance signal gives evidence that 50 mol% TiO2/50 mol% SnO2 nanocomposites should be treated as resistive-type sensors. Temporal evolution of the response to 500 ppm H2 at 320°C indicates a very short response time and much longer recovery.
