Quite recently we modified the original model of Sarkar et al. for cubic metals in extending the ion-ion interaction, ion-electron interaction and the introduction of crystal equilibrium condition. We applied our scheme to alkali metals. We studied here the lattice dynamics of noble metals on our approach by calculating phonon dispersion relations along the three principal symmetry directions, [ξ00], [ξξ0] and [ξξξ] and the (θ-T) curves of three noble metals: copper, silver and gold. We obtained reasonable agreement with the experimental findings.

The original model of Das et al. is modified in extending the electron-ion interaction on a three-body forces and including the crystal equilibrium condition to reduce one independent parameter. We studied the phonon dispersion relations along the three principal symmetry directions i.e. [ξ,0,0], [ξ,ξ,0] and [ξ,ξ,ξ] and θ-T curves of alkali metals, Na, K, Rb, Cs and Li. There is close agreement between the computed results and the experimental observations.

Opis:
We report on some thermal properties (specific heat capacity C$\text{}_{p}$, thermal conductivity λ, and thermal diffusivity σ) in addition to the differential thermal analysis thermogram and thermogravimetric analysis for potassium hydrogen sulphate (KHS), KHSO$\text{}_{4}$. The accurate measurements of the above-mentioned parameters as functions of temperature revealed that the compound undergoes two structural phase transitions around 100°C and 175°C. It seems also likely that the compound behaves as a poorly conducting material and hence the maul mechanism of the heat transfer is due to phonons. The data are correlated to the crystal structure including the two different HSO¯$\text{}_{4}$ ions.

Opis:
Temperature dependence of the heat capacity of layered rare earth molybdates was measured in the temperature range from 0.4 K to 23 K. It is shown that the temperature dependence of the lattice heat capacity can be described by the "T", where n ≠ 3. It is shown that differently from KDy(MoO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ and CsDyEu(MoO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ for CsDy(MoO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ and CsGd(MoO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ we obtained the temperature term with n < 3, which can be connected with the 2D behaviour, manifested also in the so-called membrane effect.

The specific heat of title compound was measured by adiabatic calorimeter in the temperature range 80-315 K. The phase transitions at about 304, 285 and 235 K were confirmed. A new structural phase transition at about 125 K was observed as well as new anomaly on differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curve at about 318 K. The peculiar multiple character of C, anomalies may be explained in terms of phase transitions or intermediate phases induced by impurities. The specific heat data are in agreement with the independent DSC measurements and with preliminary X-ray studies.

The ab initio self-consistent linear muffin-tin orbital calculations in the atomic sphere approximation have been performed for the ordered CrPt$\text{}_{3}$ (AuCu$\text{}_{3}$-type structure) alloy. The band structure and the densities of electronic states are presented. The para- and ferrimagnetic phases were considered. The spin-polarized calculations have confirmed the experimental observation of small antiparallel induced magnetic moment on a platinum atom.

Opis:
This study focuses on the characterization and optimization of calixarene modified carbon nanotube thin films for gas detection. Calixarene molecules were synthesized individually by considering their functional groups to attract the gas. Calixarene modified carbon nanotube based sensors were fabricated using drop-casting method on a quartz crystal microbalance gold electrode. Carbon monoxide, carbondioxide, oxygen and dry air were used as active gases for adsorption process, while high-purity nitrogen gas was used for desorption process. The selectivity and sensitivity of calixarene modified carbon nanotube are investigated in detail. Our experimental results show that functional calixarene modified carbon nanotube coated quartz crystal microbalance sensors are very sensitive and selective to gas of $CO_2$ at room temperature operation.

The paper concerns an active vibration protection (p-reduction) of the structure via piezoelectric transducers; p-reduction corresponds to an active vibration reduction (a-reduction). The quantity and effectiveness of the (a- or p-) reduction, among other parameters, depend on the piezoelectric transducers distribution on the structure. The best results are obtained bonding piezoelectric transducers to the structure in the sub-domains with the largest curvatures; it is so-called quasi-optimal distribution of the piezoelectric transducers. Up to now, the quasi-optimal distribution was determined based on heuristic reasons only. The aim of the paper is to confirm quasi-optimal distribution in analytical way. The beam clamped at one end, vibrating with first three modes separately, is chosen as the research object. It is assumed that the piezoelectric transducers are exactly the same. Demanding the vibration amplitude to be equal to zero (i.e. p-reduction condition), the general formula for interacting forces piezoelectric transducers-beam is derived. Next, such an appropriate distribution of piezoelectric transducers is searched analytically, that the minimal forces are achieved; it leads to the best reduction effectiveness. It turned out that the analytical method pointed out quasi-optimal distribution of the piezoelectric transducers. The validation of theoretical considerations is confirmed numerically.

This paper deals with an active vibration protection (p-reduction) of the beam-actuators mechanical system, hence it concerns separate modes. The paper's aim is an effectiveness analysis of the p-reduction assuming different number of actuators. It is assumed a priori that actuators are bonded to the beam in the sub-domain with the largest curvatures and they are exactly the same. The beam clamped at one end is chosen as the research object. Next, as required by the p-reduction condition, the number and distribution of actuators are changed. It turns out that the best reduction effectiveness, measured via any effectiveness coefficient, is obtained for one actuator bonded in the sub-domain with the largest curvature. The validation of theoretical considerations is confirmed numerically.

Within the automotive detailing community, there is much discussion focusing on the application of waxes and sealants to enhance and protect paint, and there are a very large number of commercial products on the market. The general idea behind the application of such products is that a wax or sealant layer or layers can increase gloss and "depth of colour", provide protection against degradation by ultraviolet rays and also make it easier to keep the paint surface clean by shedding and repulsion of rain water. In this paper, the performance of several commercially-available automotive waxes and sealants is examined. In the absence of any available published work, we have used ellipsometry to determine the thicknesses of applied wax and sealant layers and have quantified the water beading effect by measuring the contact angles of water with the wax films.

Intense pulsed electron beams have been applied for surface modification of materials in our laboratory for several years. An improvement of properties like wear, corrosion and oxidation resistance was found. Three different modification modes can be distinguished: rapid melting and solidification, surface alloying of coatings into the bulk and surface fusing of coatings to the bulk. All three surface treatment processes were investigated using the GESA (Gepulste Elektronen Strahl Anlage) facilities having following parameters: accelerating voltage 80-400 kV; power-density 2-6 MW/$cm^{2}$; beam diameter 4-10 cm; pulse duration 4-250 μs. Such pulses applied on material surfaces lead to a change in microstructure and in the case of surface alloying also to a change in chemical composition. This paper will give an overview on applications in different fields of surface modified materials.

Rotary movements of the object around the position of equilibrium is the most common type of dynamics in nature. The way of plotting trajectory resembles winding a line onto a cone of revolution or some other solid of revolution. The state of equilibrium, which is usually not reached by the system, is marked with the cone axis. The trajectory can move away from the state of equilibrium, or get closer to it. A similar behavior is observed in many two-dimensional economic models, both linear, and nonlinear. The simplest example is a linear cobweb model, where - depending on slopes of linear demand function and linear function of supply - price and quantity make a broken line with a growing, constant or decreasing amplitude around the equilibrium point. In nonlinear models, trajectories are more realistic. A natural space for exploring spiral trajectories is a three-dimensional space. Usually, it requires magnifying the model's dimension by one. Economic vortices are made up by economic vectors of three constituents. It may be price, quantity, and time. Apparently, flat zigzags that can be seen on two-dimensional graphs of cobweb models are orthogonal projections of spinning trajectories. Vortexes created by nonlinear models are much smoother than the vortices created by linear models. The real economic vectors create smooth spiral trajectories, which indicates necessity to employ nonlinear dynamics in economic modeling. The basis for rotary movements are surface areas of solids of revolution of the second degree. The kinematics of solids indicated by market shows that they also rotate in three-dimensional space. It resembles precession movements. In economic dynamics we have at least a double rotation. What rotates are both economic vectors as well as the solids created by them.

The Cu-Al-Mn shape memory alloys having various chemical compositions were prepared by arc melting method to control the phase transformation parameters. The phase transformation parameters and structural properties of the alloys were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and optic microscopy, respectively. The effects of the chemical composition on characteristic transformation temperatures, enthalpy and entropy values of Cu-Al-Mn ternary system were investigated. The characteristic transformation temperatures of austenite and martensite phase ($A_{s}$, $A_{f}$, $M_{s}$, and $M_{f}$) are increased with change in the chemical composition of the alloys. The average crystallite size for the alloys was calculated to determine the effect of aluminum and manganese compositions on the transformation temperatures. The change in transformation temperatures indicates the same trend with change in crystallite size. The obtained results suggest that the phase transformation parameters of the Cu-Al-Mn alloys can be controlled by Al and Mn contents.

Crystal structures of two yttrium aluminium oxides, namely $YAlO_3$ and $Y_3Al_5O_{12}$, were investigated in the temperature range 3.4-300 K by high-resolution neutron powder diffraction. Neither traces of phase transformations nor discontinuous changes of physical properties were observed. Thermal expansion of yttrium aluminium oxides was evaluated in terms of 1st order Grüneisen approximation, where the Debye temperatures and the Grüneisen parameters have been estimated for both compositions. Anomalies in the thermal expansion of yttrium aluminium perovskite have been observed and modelled using the Einstein oscillator with negative Grüneisen parameter. Extended bond length analysis revealed significant thermally-driven modifications of the aluminium-oxygen framework.

An analytical solution is obtained, based on linear quadratic problem well-known in the control theory. The problem is formulated for fixed-free beam vibration (fourth order partial differential equation) in Hilbert space and the point control and distributed output is considered. Beam deflection at any point is chosen as a criterion of optimization. In this case it means the linear quadratic problem. Up to now, the linear quadratic problem was formulated many times, but only for the time-dependent equation. The aim of the paper is to obtain the value of the cost functional formulated as the function of distribution of actuators. The minimum of this function leads to the optimal actuators location. The results obtained with this method confirm the results obtained in heuristic way and pure analytical one for separate mode; it is pointed out that the actuators ought to be bonded on the beam sub-regions in which the mode curvatures take their local maximums and the highest value.
