Opis:
W 2018 roku przypada 50. rocznica śmierci Zofii Kossak. Pisarka i jej najbliższa rodzina zakorzenili się w Górkach Wielkich – miejscowości na Śląsku Cieszyńskim. Odnaleźli tu swój dom, schronienie, azyl i raj. Po dramatycznych przejściach w czasie rewolucji sowieckiej, utracie męża i domu rodzinnego na Kresach Zofia Kossak potrzebowała wytchnienia, spokoju i ciszy niezbędnej, by ukoić zranione serce. Poszukiwała w otaczającym świecie radości istnienia, w żyjących wokół niej osobach – siły i piękna stworzenia, w kolorach, smakach i zapachach przyrody – wielkości natchnienia, w sobie samej zaś – miłości.
2019 marks the 130th anniversary of Zofia Kossak’s birthday. The writer and her family “grew into” Górki Wielkie, a Silesian town in which they found home, shelter and paradise. After dramatic experiences during the Soviet revolution, and after losing her husband and family home in Kresy (Eastern Borderlands), Zofia Kossak needed peace, silence and respite to heal her broken heart. Górki Wielkie in Cieszyn Silesia, or as she wrote “the homeland of  bibliophiles”, turned out to be a perfect place to build a new safe home, an oasis of peace and tranquillity. The author of Krzyżowcy (Crusaders) incorporated in her works everything that is the most beautiful and valuable in the Cieszyn region and the Silesian Beskids, i.e. faith, the scouting ideas of the town of Bucza, the rich variety of landscape and cultural characteristics, as well as the respect for residents who remained faithful to Poland despite their bad experiences over the centuries. Zofia Kossak, a resident of Górki Wielkie, consciously “grew into” regionalism in its proper understanding, which is particularly important in the case of Silesia.

Opis:
In the last years, the intensified migration mostly of people from Africa and Asia altered the situation in Europe. The growing awareness of the importance of respect for human rights and the recognition of the equal value of all people of whatever ethnic origin, cultural or religious tradition, forced the European governments to adjust the institutional services to a new kind of cultural and religious diversity, but Europeans do not want to give up the economic, political, social, ethnic, cultural and religious harmony. Due to the impact of migration, many national curricula are being changed and transformed. But it is also necessary to examine how cultural and religious diversity in Europe is intertwined in school pedagogy. What are the relationships between European and multicultural values and/or between multicultural and Christian values? What is the response of educational institutions to the new political, social, cultural and religious situation in Europe especially based on huge migration influx? What are the possible conflicts between the dynamics of a changing culture on the one hand and the ambitions of the Catholic schools in 21-st century? The author of this text raises a few important questions connected with migration and education in Europe for further reflection.

Interest for possibilities of the industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) growing in Latvia is increasing year by year and they are considered as one of the most promising renewable biomass sources to replace non-renewable natural resources for manufacturing of wide range industrial products. The aim of this research was to evaluate of biomass potential of some industrial hemp varieties to be recommended to grow in Latvia and clarify carbon content. The biometric parameters of ten industrial hemp cultivars have been investigated in 2011-2012. Depending on the variety the green over-ground biomass varies from 36 - 54 t ha-1 in 2011 and from 48 - 75 t ha-1 in 2012. The highest green over-ground biomass was obtained cultivar ‘Futura 75’ up to 75 t ha-1. The carbon content in hemp stems was found from 41.62 – 45.38% . The article defines the key specific requirements for the hemp harvesting machines.

Opis:
Humans have used mushrooms from the beginning of their history. However, during the last few decades, the market demand for these fruiting bodies has increased significantly owing to the spread in the capabilities of culinary and pharmacological exploitation. Natural mushroom resources have become insufficient to meet the support needs. Therefore, traditional methods of extensive cultivation as well as modern technologies have been exploited to develop effective growing recommendations for dozens of economically important mushroom species. Mushrooms can decompose a wide range of organic materials, including organic waste. They play a fundamental role in nutrient cycling and exchange in the environment. The challenge is a proper substrate composition, including bio-fortified essential elements, and the application of growing conditions to enable a continuous supply of fruiting bodies of market quality and stabilized chemical composition. Many mushroom species are used for food preparation. Moreover, they are treated as functional foods, because they have health benefits beyond their nutritional value, and are used as natural medicines in many countries. Owing to the rapid development of mushroom farming, we reviewed the growing technologies used worldwide for mushroom species developed for food, processing, and pharmacological industries.

Opis:
We investigated the feasibility of transferring naked plasmid DNA containing a therapeutic gene (IL-12) into mice harboring growing Renca tumors. We found that naked DNA transferred into growing Renca and B16(F10) tumors gives higher expression level of reporter gene than complexes of DNA with DDAB/ DOPE or DC-Chol/DOPE. Transfer of naked DNA carrying the IL-12 gene into growing Renca tumors causes a distinct therapeutic effect that depends on the time span between inoculation of mice with cancer cells and the beginning of the therapy. Therapy started on day 3 resulted in total cure (100%) of mice.

Opis:
This article deals with the presence of issues of Slavdom in the thoughts and works of John Paul II as an expression of their roots in Polish Romantic literature. Its centre is the cult of St. Cyril and St. Methodius, who, in the Pope’s view, became an expression of the universalism, Greek heritage and Christianity of the Slavic peoples. A reminder of the importance of the Solon brothers had already been mentioned in the Paris lectures of Adam Mickiewicz and in a forgotten poem by Teofil Lenartowicz. This was associated with the need for Slavs to gain self-knowledge, as demanded by Norwid, Słowacki, Mickiewicz and others. The mission of the Slavic Pope fulfils the above postulates of the Romantic poets. John Paul II recalls the identity of the Slavs and their role in the papacy and a united Europe. It restores their dignity and is an indication of their future.

Parents actively share information about their children on Facebook, but little research has explored the extent of this issue. The goal of this paper is to theorize a new type of parents’ online activities concerning their children, especially the problem of sharenting, which is increasingly common in contexts where social media such as Facebook play a significant role in relationships and interactions. This paper explores what kind of baby pictures parents share on Facebook and what are the likely causes of doing it. The presented research was conducted with the use of social media ethnography among 168 Polish parents using Facebook. The findings have shown that the phenomenon of sharenting is common practice among parents.
