Furthermore, the analysis let to determining the tendencies and changes that have had occurred over the given years. The examined reports depict that a vast majority of respondents has had ever taken part in a tourism activity, however the numbers have been declining over the years. The most popular forms of tourism among youth are: recreational tourism, entertainment tourism and cultural tourism. Less popular forms include qualifi ed tourism, ski tourism, special interest tourism, nature tourism, religious tourism, educational and linguistic tourism, and adventure tourism. The youth is nowadays one of the most important segments of the tourism market. Therefore, the analysis presented here may prove very serviceable for those who aim at satisfying the needs and expectations of the contemporary youth when designing a tourist offer.

This article is a terminological discussion concerning sports tourism and those experts who stress its complexity, multifacetedness and heterogeneity. They distinguish between passive and active participation in sports disciplines and at the same time stress the huge role this form of tourism plays in stimulating regional development, mostly due to organizing mass events. This paper is based on the statements of eight experts from different research centres dealing with tourism (mainly sports tourism) accompanied by the authors’ attempt to ‘standardise’ them by referring to the subject literature.

Opis:
The general objective of this study was to research the revitalisation of language tourism (LT) activities in Spain. More specifically, the study aimed at describing the LT phenomenon, analysing the global and Spanish LT market, and examining domestic LT options in Spain. A bibliographic and web search was carried out, in addition to a focus group with a convenience sample of four language tourists, and an in-depth semi-structured interview with one study abroad accommodation provider. Qualitative data were processed using content analysis and SWOT analysis, and were categorised before the triangulation stage. Whereas Spanish inbound and outbound LT markets are quite consolidated, only 17 private companies and 5 public programmes have been identified in the Spanish domestic niche, all of them focusing on English as a foreign language. The private offering is very limited and addressed at very specific segments. As for public programmes, in 2019-2020 they received an estimated funding of 4.7 million euros and were attended by over 9000 individuals. This sector has been scarcely investigated to date and offers an excellent opportunity for proximity travel. A more extensive, diversified offering, supported by better promotion is required. This implies the involvement of all stakeholders, as well as the close cooperation of private suppliers and the public administration, in planning and implementing sustainable policies in Spain.

This article considers the influence of ecotourism, a fast-developing form of tourism, on an important area in the functioning of the tourism market, which is the behaviour of its participants. The aim of the article is to present the way in which the developing concept and principles of ecotourism can affect the behaviour of consumers (tourists) and the activity of tour operators (providers of tourism services). The authors propose a unique research approach which consist in addressing both the expectations on the part of tourists as well as those related to business targets of the tourism industry. This article presents conceptual framework and outlines methodical approach which can be useful for the future research. Twelve types of behaviour regarding both tourists and tour operators were distinguished, followed by a description of the character of the possible influence of ecotourism on each of them. In this way the article also presents an outline of a new approach to managing business (including market relations), taking into consideration the growing popularity and importance of ecotourism.

The aim of the article is to present some arguments in favor of independence of laws in tourism. It seems that the current development of tourism tends to reflect the dilemma whether we can today speak of a law in tourism and, if so, whether we should grant the tourism law a scientific status. The article focuses on selected issues of scientific tourism and law in tourism. The first part deals with the concept of scientific definition of tourism and laws in tourism as well as points which are problematic in formulating a definition of these two terms. In the second part, the author includes her considerations concerning the areas of institutional status of the law in tourism. In the section dealing with the institutional status, she points to scientific centres in which research is carried out in the area of law in tourism, refers to the current state of development of scientific staff, evaluates the degree of integration of the scientific community and mentions the important role of scientific institutions in the training of scientific personnel for the needs of the tourist market. A little on the sidelines of these comments, the author focuses on selected problems and methodological terms, the issues representing only a marginal topic the discussion.

Opis:
According to UNWTO standards, tourism takes the forms of domestic and international tourism. International tourism is subdivided into inbound and outbound tourism. The statistics of inbound tourism comprises two basic sections: statistics of tourist arrivals and statistics of tourism receipts. The inbound tourism in Poland and Ukraine is researched in this article. It is interesting to analyze the inbound tourism in the neighbouring countries, i.e. Poland and Ukraine, taking into account the “split in time” similarities in the development of the tourism market in these countries, their place in the world tourist flows, as well as attempts of Ukraine to repeat Poland’s experience in its integration into the EU. The aim of this paper is to conduct a comparative analysis of inbound tourist flows in Ukraine and Poland, as well as to reveal the factors influencing tourist arrivals, receipts and profitability as the ratio of the last two. The number and structure of tourist arrivals to Poland and Ukraine in 2000–2016 are analyzed. It was assumed that tourists’ exchange between neighbouring countries probably depends on the length of common land border. To test this assumption, the criterion χ² was used, which is also called the criterion of independence, consistency and homogeneity. The receipts from inbound tourism in above-mentioned countries during the same period of time are estimated. By applying the Consumer Price Index (CPI), the tourism receipts are recalculated for the prices of 2000. The profitability of inbound tourism in Poland and Ukraine in 2013 and 2016 is calculated. The factors influencing tourism receipts and profitability of inbound tourism are described.

Opis:
The specific objective of the paper is to discuss the mutual relations between tourism and sport and, in a wider context, to draw the reader’s attention to the potentially excessive range of research goals in tourism as a discipline. Within the scope of discussion, the author looks at tourism as a social activity and a conceptual and research subject. Research questions, the signposts of intellectual debate, come down to whether tourism shares any common areas with sport (in its widest sense). If so, is such activity still tourism activity? Or perhaps these types of ‘sport-tourist’ activities should be excluded from discussion on tourism as an academic discipline because of their non-tourist character? The author assumes that there is an exploratory and cognitive zone between these two areas of social activity, going beyond both tourism and sport. Tourist activity and sport activity in fact differ from each other.

Opis:
The purpose of the article is to determine whether potential tourists consider information about a city’s air quality in their assessment of its tourist attractiveness and how this this information affects their travel decisions. Urban tourism is a common and dynamically developing form of tourism. Cities encourage tourists to visit them with various attractions, cultural, gastronomic and accommodation offerings as well as mass events. At the same time, they are often industrial centres and important transportation hubs, which makes them characterized by a high degree of air pollution. The article presents results of a survey involving 509 respondents from Poland. The data were used to assessment to what extent information about air quality in a given city is relevant for people planning a tourist trip. In addition, the survey provided information about factors that could increase the respondents’ interest in the level of air quality in a city they were planning to visit. Particular attention was paid to the respondents’ health. Many diseases can be the result of air pollution, or can be aggravated by substances contained in smog. Therefore, the authors tried to determine whether people suffering from such illnesses were more likely to pay special attention to air quality in their prospective destinations. The results constitute a significant contribution to the knowledge about the factors affecting demand in urban tourism. They may be relevant for entities responsible for managing cities and promoting tourism products. The article also draws attention to the fact that problems arising from air pollution in cities can affect not only their residents, but also tourists.

In connection with development of tourism areas, some studies based on the concept of clustersappear. The term “cluster” is used in scientific literature to denote a strong tendency for networkingof economic activities and for their spatial concentration. Networks and active participation of individualplayers (municipalities, firms, etc.) of these networks are the core features of clusters. Networkrelationships are particularly important for the sector of tourism, where groups of organizations try tocluster together so as to cooperate and form a tourism destination. The aim of the paper is to present interconnection between (tourism) cluster as a theoretical conceptand the Liptov region as a tourism destination. The first attempt of Slovak tourism cluster establishmentin the region of Liptov is shortly introduced and assessed by describing the crucial players (with their“philosophy” of mass tourism production and consumption). The second part of the paper is connectedwith statistical evaluation of the development of the regional tourism under the influence of the ClusterLiptov.
