Opis:
In the present paper, solutions of the equations of uncoupled thermoelastodynamics of ther- moelastic rods are constructed for power and thermal effects. Based on the Fourier transform, the Green tensor and generalized solutions of the thermoelasticity equations are constructed in the original space-time using the apparatus of generalized functions theory. Analytical formulas for definitions of the thermal stress-strain state of the rods taking into account its thermoelastic parameters are obtained. Shock thermoelastic waves are considered and con- ditions on their fronts are obtained. The results of numerical calculations of Green tensor are presented.

Opis:
The present article deals with the propagation of inhomogeneous waves in an orthotropic medium based on Eringen’s nonlocal thermoelasticity. For chosen directions of propagation and a real finite inhomogeneity parameter, a complex slowness vector is specified to define the propagation of inhomogeneous incident wave. Then the reflection, transmission of plane waves at a plane interface between two nonlocal orthotropic thermoelastic halfspaces are discussed. In this incidence, horizontal slowness determines the slowness vectors for all reflected, transmitted waves. For each reflected, transmitted wave, the corresponding slowness vector is resolved to define its phase direction, phase velocity and attenuation angle. Appropriate boundary conditions on this wave-field determine the amplitude ratios for reflected, transmitted waves relative to the incident wave. The numerical examples are provided to show the effect of the inhomogeneity of incident wave, nonlocal parameter on the propagation characteristic of the reflected, transmitted waves.

The effect of thermomechanical coupling occuring in metal during consecutive tensile tests, were examined. The temperature, stress and strain characteristic were found both in elastic and plastic ranges. The change of the character of the sample temperature was employed as a criterion for the limit between the elastic and plastic regimes. The thermomechanical coupling effects were interpreted in terms of the material microstructure evolution and referred to its strain hardening degree. A quite precise evaluation unloading seems to be particularly valuable.

In this paper, a micro resonator is modeled as a thin rectangular microplate with thermoelastic damping that is actuated electrostatically. Large static deformation due to high polarization voltage is considered, and vibration of microplate occurs around the static de- flection. Due to the effect of thermoelastic damping, the frequency of vibration is a complex value that is used to determine the quality factor of thermoelastic damping. Also, the pull-in voltage is considered because nonlinear properties are more appeared when approaching the polarization voltage to the pull-in voltage.

This article deals with the study of a thermoelastic nanobeam in a modified couple stress theory subjected to ramp-type heating. The mathematical model is prepared for the nanobeam in thermoelastic three-phase-lag. The Laplace transform and the eigenvalue approach are used to find the displacement component, lateral deflection, temperature change and axial stress of the thermoelastic beam. The general algorithm of the inverse Laplace transform is developed to compute results numerically. The comparison of three-phase-lag, dual-phaselag and GN-III (1993) models are represented, and their illustration is depicted graphically. This study finds the applications in engineering, medical science, sensors, etc.

We study a thermo-mechanical system consisting of an elastic membrane to which a shape-memory rod is glued. The slow movements of the membrane are controlled by the motions of the attached rods. A quasi-static model is used. We include the elastic feedback of the membrane on the rods. This results in investigating an elliptic boundary value problem in a domain W is subset R2 with a cut, coupled with non-linear equations for the vertical motions of the rod and the temperature on the rod. We prove the existence of a unique global weak solution to this problem using a fixed point argument.

The methods of irreversible thermomechanics and functional analysis are used to formulate the mathematical model of thermoelastic solid body taking account of structural heterogeneity of the body material and geometric irregularity of its surface. The density and the chemical potential of skeleton among others are included into the state parameters space. The source of skeleton mass reconciles the actual and reference body states and may be associated with real surface forming method. The analysis of model problem solutions shows that the model is appropriate to describe coupled processes in porous and nanoporous bodies. It allows studying the size effects of strength, elastic moduli, etc. caused by near-surface non-homogeneity.

Opis:
Based on the Lord–Shulman thermoelectric elasticity theory, the piezoelectric effect on the thermoelastic Lamb wave propagation in the functionally graded material (FGM) plate is investigated. The coupled wave equations are solved by employing the Legendre polynomial series approach (LSPA), which poses the advantages of small scale of eigenvalues matrix and a convenient solution. It can directly obtain the complex wave number solutions without iteration. The obtained complex solutions, which represent the wave propagation and attenuation, are compared with those available data. Numerical examples show that the influence of gradient is profound. Results indicate that the piezoelectric effects on attenuation with the open and closed circuit condition are consistent for the S0 and S1 modes, but are inconsistent for the A0 and A1 modes. Although the piezoelectric effect is weak on the dispersion and attenuation of thermal waves, it is notable for their physical field distributions. In addition, the relaxation time is critical to electric displacements of a thermal wave mode, but is not essential for those of Lamb-like modes. The results can be used for the optimization of thermo-electric-elastic coupling structures.

The stabilization problem for a structural acoustic model is considered. The model under consideration is that of acoustic cavity (wave equation) coupled at the interface with a flexible wall (plate equation) which accounts for thermal effects. It is shown that frictional, nonlinear damping applied at the boundary of the acoustic chamber provides the uniform decay rates for the energy function of the overall structure. The main novelty of this result, with respect to the literature, is that the uniform stability for the model is established without assuming any mechanical damping the wall.

Assuming that the thermo-elastic creep response of the material is governed by Norton’s law and material properties, except Poisson’s ratio, are considered as a function of the radius of the spherical vessel, an analytical solution is presented for calculation of stresses and displacements of axisymmetric thick-walled spherical pressure vessels made of functionally graded materials. This analytical solution could be used to study the time and temperature dependence of stresses in spherical vessels made of functionally graded materials. Creep stresses and displacements are plotted against dimensionless radius and time for different values of the powers of the material properties.

This paper endeavours to study aspects of wave propagation in a random generalized-thermal micropolar elastic medium. The smooth perturbation technique conformable to stochastic differential equations has been employed. Six different types of waves propagate in the random medium. The dispersion equations have been derived. The effects due to random variations of micropolar elastic and generalized thermal parameters have been computed. Randomness causes change of phase speed and attenuation of waves. Attenuation coefficients for high frequency waves have been computed. Second moment properties have been briefly discussed with application to wave propagation in the random micropolar elastic medium. Integrals involving correlation functions have been transformed to radial forms. A special type of generalized thermo-mechanical auto-correlation functions has been used to approximately compute effects of random variations of parameters. Uncoupled problem has been briefly outlined.

Temperature changes near the end of a curvilinear cohesive crack and their influence on crack growth are investigated. The problem of local temperature changes consists in a delay or retardation of the cohesive crack growth. The bonds between the curvilinear crack faces in the end zones are modeled by application to the crack surface cohesive forces caused by the presence of bonds. The boundary value problem of equilibrium of the curvilinear crack with interfacial bonds in the end zones under action of external tensile loads, induced temperature field and tractions in the bonds preventing to its opening, is reduced to a system of singular integral equations with a Cauchy-type kernel. From the solution of this equation system, normal and tangential tractions in the bonds are found. Analysis of the limit equilibrium of the crack using the end zone model is performed on the basis of a criterion of bonds limiting stretching and includes: 1) establishment of tractions depending on opening of the crack faces; 2) evaluation of the stress state near the curvilinear crack with taking into account tensile loads, induced temperature field, tractions in the bonds; 3) determination of the critical external tensile loads.

In the present article we studied the thermodynamical theory of micropolar porous material and derived the equations of the linear theory of microploar porous generalized thermoelastic solid. Then the general solution to the field equations for plane axi-symmetric problem are obtained. The Laplace and Hankel transforms have been employed to study the problem, which are inverted numerically by using numerical inversion technique. An application of normal force and thermal source has been taken to show the utility of the approach. The technique developed in the present paper is simple, straightforward and convenient for numerical computation. Effect of micropolarity and porosity on the components of stress, temperature distribution and volume fraction field together with the effect of generalized theory of thermoelasticity have been depicted graphically for a specific model. Some particular cases are also deduced from the present problem.
