Opis:: In the paper, the results of fatigue investigations on smooth and flame yarns are presented. The investigations were performed for yarns of the following types 25, 30, 40 and 50 tex, i.e. for thin yarns as well as for relatively thick ones made in spinning mills. An assessment of fatigue life was made based upon statistically analysed Wöhler curves. Aiming for a more complex presentation of changes over time taking place due to variable loading, we performed an assessment of the simultaneous influence of linear mass changes for smooth and flame cotton yarns as well as coefficients of the real loading cycle on the fatigue life of adequate yarns (represented by the number of loading/fatigue cycles). A statistical approach to the identification of characteristics of fatigue life was utilised. Experimental data were approximated via linear-square polynomials. Additionally, factor analysis was performed, which has not been considered till now, in relation to the fatigue phenomena modelling. Due to the wide and comprehensive plan of experiments as well as the number of trails and specimens utilised, such investigations are rarely described in references. Within the framework of the experiment program, a consecutive series of planned tests: 4 x 8 based upon 32 variants for 20 tests were taken into consideration for smooth yarns of every variant as well as an adequate number of tests performed separately for cotton flame yarns. This allowed us to make versatile statistical analyses and reliable identification of needed quantities and parameters. Utilisation of a pre-designed (planned) experiment allows for assessment of the average behaviour of a product in a real technological process, while methods considering characteristics in dependence on one variable are too simple for showing the ongoing changes. They could not fully represent the behaviour of an artifact/product in service conditions.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań zmęczeniowych przędz Smooth i Flame. Badania przeprowadzono dla przędz następujących typów 25, 30, 40 i 50 tex, tj. dla cienkich przędz oraz stosunkowo grubych wykonanych w przędzalniach. Ocenę trwałości zmęczeniowej przeprowadzono na podstawie analizowanych statystycznie krzywych Wöhlera. Dążąc do bardziej złożonej prezentacji zmian zachodzących w czasie w wyniku zmiennego obciążenia, przeprowadziliśmy ocenę równoczesnego wpływu zmian masy liniowej dla bawełnianych przędz Smooth i Flame, a także współczynników rzeczywistego cyklu obciążania na żywotność zmęczeniową odpowiednich przędz (reprezentowane przez liczbę cykli obciążenia/zmęczenia). Zastosowano statystyczne podejście do identyfikacji charakterystyk trwałości zmęczeniowej. Dane eksperymentalne aproksymowano za pomocą wielomianów liniowo-kwadratowych. Dodatkowo przeprowadzono analizę czynnikową, której dotychczas nie rozważano, w odniesieniu do modelowania zjawisk zmęczeniowych. Ze względu na szeroki i kompleksowy plan eksperymentów, a także liczbę wykorzystanych szlaków i okazów, takie badania są rzadko opisywane w odnośnikach. W ramach programu eksperymentu wzięto pod uwagę kolejną serię planowanych testów: 4 x 8 w oparciu o 32 warianty dla 20 testów dla gładkich przędz każdego wariantu, a także odpowiednią liczbę testów wykonanych osobno dla przędz bawełnianych. To pozwoliło nam na wykonanie wszechstronnych analiz statystycznych i niezawodną identyfikację potrzebnych ilości i parametrów. Wykorzystanie wcześniej zaprojektowanego (planowanego) eksperymentu pozwala na ocenę średniego zachowania produktu w prawdziwym procesie technologicznym, podczas gdy metody uwzględniające cechy zależne od jednej zmiennej są zbyt proste do pokazania zachodzących zmian. Nie mogły w pełni przedstawić zachowania artefaktu/produktu w warunkach użytkowania.

Opis:: Methods of oil spill domains determination are reviewed and a new method based on a probabilistic approach to the solution of this problem is recommended. A semi-Markov model of the process of changing hydro-meteorological conditions is constructed. To describe the oil spill domain central point position a two-dimensional stochastic process is used. Parametric equations of oil spill domain central point drift trend curve for different kinds of hydro-meteorological conditions are determined. The general model of oil spill domain determination for various hydro-meteorological conditions is proposed. Moreover, statistical methods of this general model unknown parameters estimation are proposed. These methods are presented in the form of algorithms giving successive steps which should be done to evaluate these unknown model parameters on the base of statistical data coming from experiments performed at the sea. Moreover, approximate expected stochastic prediction and Monte Carlo Simulation in real time prediction of the oil spill domain movement are proposed.

Opis:: The source of chemical constituents in the groundwater and the source of inrush water are two important issues related to the hydrochemical evolution and safety of coal mining in coalfield of China, respectively. In this study, major ion concentrations of thirty-four groundwater samples from three representative aquifers in northern Anhui province, China have been analyzed by a series of statistical methods for tracing the sources of major ions and inrush water. The differences of major ion concentrations in groundwater from different aquifers indicate that they have undergone different types and degrees of water rock interactions, and provide the possibility for water source identification based on major ions. Factor analysis has identified two potential sources responsible for the major ion concentrations of the groundwater, including dissolution of carbonates and evaporates and the weathering of silicate minerals, which was further confirmed by the Unmix model analysis. Discriminant analysis can classify the sources of groundwater with high efficiency, similar to the results obtained based on the source contributions of the Unmix model analysis. In summary, different with those of factor and discriminant analysis, the Unmix model analysis can provide information about source of major ions and water simultaneously.

Opis:: South Louisiana is undergoing rapid land loss and the construction and utilization of navigation channels by the offshore oil and gas industry, the commercial fishing industry, the oil refining industry, and freight shippers is one cause. A network of natural and man-made navigation channels support commerce and industry throughout the region, but no quantitative information is available on the users of the channels and their contribution to land loss. The purpose of this note is to characterize utilization across eight channels in South Louisiana using data from the Automatic Identification System. Approximately 125,000 vessels used the channels over a two year period between 2011-2012. The Mississippi River was the most heavily utilized channel with an average of 345 vessels per week across the report zone, followed by Bayou Lafourche and Sabine Pass with about 195 vessels per week. The oil refining industry was the primary user of the Calcasieu and Sabine Pass channels while the freight industry was the primary user of the Mississippi River. The offshore oil and gas industry were the primary users of Bayou Lafourche, the Houma Navigation Canal, the Atchafalaya River and Freshwater Bayou.

Opis:: In this contribution we present a review of the DIA-method to ensure navigational integrity. The DIA-method rigorously combines parameter estimation and statistical testing for the Detection, Identification and Adaptation of multivariate and multiple model misspecifications. We describe the statistical properties of the so-obtained DIA-estimator together with its probability density function. Numerical examples are given to highlight various aspects of the navigational DIA-estimator.

Opis:: In the present paper, we deal with the application of the probabilistic approach, which makes it possible to optimize the face image classification task. The mathematical expectations and variances of the investigated random parameters are used as basic statistics. The proposed method allows us to carry out a fast and reliable preliminary classification and to exclude obviously dissimilar face image from the further analysis.
W niniejszej pracy mamy do czynienia z zastosowaniem podejścia probabilistycznego, które pozwala zoptymalizować zadanie klasyfikacji obrazów twarzy. Wartości oczekiwane i wariancje badanych parametrów losowych są stosowane jako podstawowe statystyki. Zaproponowana metoda pozwala przeprowadzić szybką i właściwą wstępną klasyfikację i wykluczyć bardzo odmienne obrazy twarzy z dalszej analizy.
