Opis:
The paper presents a methodology of finite element modelling and numerical simulation of symmetric vibrations of the reinforced concrete viaduct using advanced CAE systems. Two types of analysis were carried out - static analysis of the viaduct under dead load and dynamic analysis under a moving high speed train. The KNI 140070 viaduct of span length of 14.40 m with abutment zones was selected as a representative for the study. The serviced ballasted track was taken into consideration. The FE model of the track includes the main rails, fastening systems, sleepers and the ballast. The EuroCity EC 114, Polish high speed train, moving at 100-160 km/h was selected for the study. Components of the train FE model were considered as rigid bodies and were modelled using shell and beam elements. Cylindrical and revolute constrained joints were applied for kinematic connections and relations between relative components. Discrete springs and dampers were applied for modelling of the primary and the secondary suspension systems. The numerical analysis was performed using finite element code LS-DYNA. The stress distribution in selected components of the viaduct structure was presented as the results of the static analysis, whereas the selected time histories for displacements and stresses were shown as the results of the dynamic analysis. The results obtained from both analyses allowed to assess the actual displacement and stress states for the considered viaduct.

Opis:
The main role of school is to help pupils develop and to empower them towards success in adult life. One of the major factors that play important role in this process is the way teachers talk to their students. Therefore the purpose of this study was to explore the effects of teachers positive language such as among others effective praise, redirection, reinforcement, reminding and confirmation as well as the use of appropriate humor or tone of voice on pupils‘ motivation, discipline, interest in the subject being taught and consequently school achievements. On the basis of that, the following research questions are addressed within this thesis: What is the influence of teachers’ positive talk on their students’ results and behavior? Do teachers use positive talk in schools? Additional questions were: How do Polish students and teachers tend to perceive the importance of teacher talk? And: Is there enough relevant literature to the subject of teacher talk? In order to prove the thesis, this study focuses mainly on reviewing relevant literature works and obtaining data from a quasi-experimental design with using positive language, and teacher and student surveys, as means to investigate how positive language affects pupils. My thesis illustrates that teachers words can be characterized as a powerful tool which with the combined action of encouragement, praises and humor facilitates learning, makes pupils believe in their abilities, reduces stress, reinforces their positive behaviors and helps them reach their potentials. More importantly, this is also about teaching the pupils social skills. I would like this work to be handy and inspiring for other teachers in bringing out the best in their pupils.

Opis:
Electrospinning is an effective technique for fabricating submicron to nanoscale fibers from synthetic polymer as well as natural proteins. In this study, multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were embedded via electrospinning by adding MWNTs into the spinning dope, and found to be well aligned along the fiber axis in the silk fibroin nanofibers. The morphology and microstructure of the electrospun nanofibers were characterised using a field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM). X-ray diffraction (XRD) and TG-DTA were used to study the crystal structure of the silk/MWNTs composite nanofibres, carried out to alter the strength, toughness and electrical conductivity of silk nanofibers by adding a small amount of MWNTs. The electrospun random silk mats with 1% MWNTs had a Young’s modulus, ultimate tensile strength and strain of 107.46 ± 9.15MPa, 9.94 ± 1.2MPa and 9.25 ± 1.5%, respectively, and electrical conductivity increased to 1.2×10-4S/cm. The silk/MWNTs composite nanofibres could potentially be applied in nerve repair materials owing to their excellent mechanical properties and electrical conductivity.

Opis:
The main issue of the article is the corrosion of the reinforced concrete elements by the co-influence of the aggressive and power factors. The problem of corrosion is extremely actual one. Therefore the tests were carried out upon the specimens considering the corrosion in the acid environment, namely 10 % HSO4. The acid environment H2SO4 was taken as a model of the aggressive environment. Conclusions concerning the corrosion model of the cross section and investigation of stress-strain state have been made. That material concerns the problem of the reinforced concrete corrosion as a whole construction. Reinforced concrete beams were tested with and without the co-action of the aggressive environment and power factor.

Opis:
Today, using Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) sheets is one of the conventional methods in retrofitting concrete structures. Some factors affecting FRP sheets proper performance include mechanical properties, surface specifications, connector’s material and connecting approach in concrete elements. Previous studies showed that FRP epoxy resin and its basic surface have a significant impact on the ultimate bearing capacity. In line with the development of nanotechnology in recent years, this paper presents an experimental study to show the effects of adding the best percentage of nano-carbons to adhesive resin and evaluate the ultimate axial, shear and bending strengths in concrete samples. The results show that using FRP with carbon nanotube reinforced resins will significantly increase stiffness and ductility by 100%; moreover, it shows an effective increase of almost 13% in axial and flexural strengths of specimens.
