Opis:
Physical scale models have a large range of application in studies of hydraulic works. In port engineering, they can be used to optimize the general layout of terminals, evaluation of protection structures, simulation of vessel maneuvers and investigation of mooring plans for vessels, among several subjects. Once physical modeling allows a high accuracy in the waves and currents representation as well as their interaction with the bottom and the vessels, the studies of mooring systems in coastal and estuarine ports based on physical modeling tests provide greater reliability in comparison with those grounded on distinct types of models. To highlight the importance of this kind of application, this article presents the case study of the Ponta da Madeira Port (PMP), located in the State of Maranhao, Brazil, developed with the support of the 1:170 scale reduced physical model conceived and calibrated for this area. This study analyzed several alternatives to improve the availability of the northern berth of the Pier III of PMP, including new mooring strategies and the construction of a new improvement structure. The results, which concerned on preliminary tests of the mooring lines tensions, evidenced structural intervention could substantially reduce the risk of mooring lines break, indicating that further investigations concerning different layouts for the improvement structure are promising in order to provide an increase of this berth availability.

Opis:
This study is carried out with the aim of developing sustainable port management in container terminals, allowing the volume of container traffic to grow, while at the same time reducing the consumption of energy and natural resources, the volume of waste generated and the negative impacts on social systems and ecosystems in the areas of influence of the port. The analysis of sustainability will be carried out using KPIs, which are management tools widely used by companies worldwide to measure and evaluate the performance of their processes and manage them in the most effective and efficient manner. As a main conclusion, it is indicated that it is not possible to reach the objective pursued of finding a relationship that could link the productivity indicators and the environmental indicators in the Spanish container terminals. The container terminals of the Spanish port system are heterogeneous, both in terms of operational management and environmental sustainability. They all operate with very different systems.

Opis:
The economy of Singapore is characterised by a stable political environment, favourable business conditions and very well-developed infrastructure attracting foreign direct investment, being the driving force of the economy. It is highly dependent on export, as well as on the dynamic sectors of transport, business and financial services. Singapore’s natural deep-sea ports and the geographical location at the crossroads of important shipping channels makes its trade a major economic sector, next to production and services. There are currently more than 5,000 maritime companies operating in Singapore, including over 130 international shipping groups, which constitute an important pillar for the international maritime transport hub. This article discusses Singapore’s economic situation by analysing the dynamic GDP growth over the years 1960–2016 as well as other economic indicators achieved in 2004–2017, including the dynamics of foreign trade. This research covers the port’s ownership and organisational structure, and its terminals have been reviewed in terms of their location, infrastructure and functions by taking into account the new generation terminal of the port of Tuas, currently under development. Over the years, the port has seen a steady increase in revenue from transhipment, which is confirmed by the dynamics of the container volume growth over the years 1972–2017, the transhipment volume over the years 2007–2018 and the number of container ships calling at the port along with their total capacity over the years 2007–2017, as elaborated in the article.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to present an analysis of the main factors influencing negatively Klaipeda Sea Port performance and competitiveness as well as their limiting impact on the development of this transport system entity in general. This case study research is proposing some alternative solutions decreasing negative influences of comparatively declining land transport infrastructure connectivity to the Sea Port hinterland. Analysis of hinterland connectivity is based on the extended gate concept, where a series of terminals and related logistical activities are integrated into a functional single entity. The intensity of real road transport flows on the main connecting road intersections has been evaluated using digital tools with input data from the ArcGIS platform. Also, accessibility to other terminals (at the local, regional and global scale) as well as the terminal is linkage to the regional transport system has been taken into account. One of the objectives of this research was to define objectively the state of traffic flow on the highway connecting Klaipeda sea-port to its hinterland because the road infrastructure was not qualitatively improved for a long period, while the average annual seaport turnover is constantly growing by 6% - 9%. Secondly, it was defined how substantially is possible to decrease the load of road traffic in case of reestablishing of an inland waterway connection between practically the same points of the transport route. Using mathematical modeling of traffic flows is proved that, road transport highway connection in/from the Klaipeda Seaport is loaded substantially and requires systemic improvement (building at least additional lanes in both directions, etc.) to promote further growth of Klaipeda sea-port capacities. The option to apply an additional inland waterway connection allows to decrease the road traffic flow up to 9 – 11% with the possible development of this option, what in its’ turn also decrease the negative influence on the environment.

Opis:
This paper examines one of the most important operational problems in seaport terminals, namely the Berth Allocation Problem (BAP) which finds an optimal assignment of ships to the berths that minimize the total waiting time of all ships and reduce congestion in ports. Our problem is to affect and schedule n ships on m berths to minimize the processing time and the waiting time for all the ships in the port. Therefore, ships stay time in the port known by the flow time, while respecting the physical constraints existing at the port (such as the depth of the water berth and the draft of the ship’s water), knowing that each ship can only accommodate one ship at a time. It is as if it was a case of n tasks and m machines in parallel, and we wanted to schedule the passage of different tasks on different machines, knowing that each task can only pass on one machine and that the interruption of the task is not allowed. For example, if a job started on a machine, it will remain on this machine up to its completion. In our case, tasks are ships and machines are berths that are opting to minimize the total flow time and, therefore, to decrease the residence time of all the ships in the port. In a first step, a Mixed Integer Linear Program model is designed to address the BAP with the aim of minimizing the flow time of the ships in the port, our sample can be used for both static and dynamic berth allocation cases. In a second step, this model is illustrated with a real case study in the Tunisian port of Rades and solved by a commercial solver CPLEX. Calculation results are presented and compared with those obtained by port authorities in Radès.

Opis:
The year 2022 was marked by economic risks with potentially very sensitive impacts for countries in the Black Sea region. Given the limited capacity of Ukrainian ports, as well as the sanctions imposed on Russia, due to ongoing conflict, it was necessary to identify new destinations capable of taking over the flow of goods that normally went to the countries involved in this conflict. In addition to the risks specific to maritime transport, the risk of armed conflict comes with new challenges that can also materialize in the form of environmental impact. To analyze this potential impact, the study is being focused mainly on the analysis of the pollution risk generated by the emissions caused by the vessels calling the container terminal CSCT, located in Constanța harbor, and the emissions generated by the vehicles moving in the terminal. As estimated from the start all levels of pollution have increased, with the level of CO2 increasing from 11072.7 tons in 2021 to 11915.7 tons in 2022. The NOx emissions have a similar trend, as well as the other emission level measured and calculated.
