Youth Activity in the Internet and Hazards Related to ItUsing the Internet nowadays is a daily activity for many children. On average 92% ofyoung Internet users goes online at least once a week and 57% log in almost every day(Kirwil, 2010). In Poland kids as young as four years of age start using the Internet(Gemius 2008a). A study considering Internet use was performed as a part of socialcampaign on online safety „WWW – Wiem, widzę i wybieram”. Study consisted oftwo parts. At the fi rst stage data were acquired from parents of kids aged 4–15. Atthe second stage data was acquired from kids in primary school (5th class) andfrom kids in gymnasium (1st and 3rd class). Th e results comply with other fi ndingsdescribed in the literature. However in some cases data points to more frequentoccurrence of negative and unwanted experiences. Th erefore monitoring of exposureto negative online experiences of young persons is required.

The potentials of ICTs in fish farming has not been fully harnessed by farmers in Nigeria. This study assessed farmers’ awareness of the use of ICTs in fish farming, determined level of use, identified the determinants of use, and the constraints to the use of ICTs in fish farming. A two-stage random sampling technique was applied to select 133 respondents on whom a questionnaire was administered. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Multiple Regression Analysis and the Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation. Respondents’ level of awareness of the use of ICTs in fish farming was high (71.4%), but use was low (48.3%). The major constraint to the use of ICTs was the high cost of internet subscription (M = 3.53). At p < 0.001, number of ponds (β = 0.095), cosmopoliteness (β = 0.271), household size (β = 0.159) and frequency of extension contact (β = 0.078) determined the use of ICTs. Also, awareness of ICTs had a significant relationship with its use (r = 0.339, p < 0.01). The study concluded that the level of use of ICTs in fish farming in the state was low in spite of a high level of awareness. It recommends among others, the regulation of the activities of ICT service providers in the country for quality service at reduced prices.

Opis:
The current economic development was governed in three distinctive ways, such as capitalism, socialism and so-called „third way”. It is very likely that each of these ways has exhausted its possibilities of solving main socio-economic problems. Therefore it is worth considering other options for building their future scenarios, which would be subject to public discussion. The aim of this article is an attempt to outline the vision of the „fourth way”, which would be a mature knowledge-based economy. This path is set by the opportunity to engage the social networking sites and the tools of intellectual capital accounting in the framework of the common economic macrosystem. In terms of methodology, it is a conceptual work that uses elements of strategic planning - the stakeholders analysis, the relationship analysis, the scenarios method. The main result of the research is to define the vision of a new economic macrosystem, whose foundations will be created by social networking sites, which use elements of intellectual capital accounting. Management of intellectual capital in such a system will be based on the simple tools of measurement, planning and control. The article confirms the assumption that in the future the role of intellectual capital in a knowledge-based economy should still grow. The most important conclusion is bold hypothesis: social networking sites enhanced to support the registration of intellectual capital can combine the main stakeholders of knowledge-based economy into an effectively functioning macrosystem, which would not be a simple continuation of capitalism, socialism, or „third way”.

Storytelling is one of the most common activities used in teaching English proficiency to language students. It is widely accepted as a teaching technique by many educators because it engages students in learning. This study seeks to examine students’ readiness in using technology-aided applications in telling their stories. It also investigates how cybernated storytelling could encourage them to communicate more in groups. This qualitative study involved 35 secondary school students, selected based on purposive sampling technique, from a multi-ethnic secondary school in Malaysia. After having initial exposure to cybernated storytelling video production, the students were divided into small groups and required to engage in developing a cybernated storytelling video for a period of 90 days using the English language. While engaging in the activity, students were expected to communicate orally in face-to-face meetings and in writing using WhatsApp (WA) and Facebook (FB) platforms. Their WA and FB entries were compiled and analysed thematically besides interview responses which were collected during the group interview. The findings point to how technology aided language learning could be a strong support in enhancing students’ English communication skills.

Partenij Pavlovič – the “wandering monk” as a networkerPartenij Pavlovič was a Bulgarian monk (ca. 1700–1760) who spent his entire active life in the service of the Serbian Orthodox Churches of Pec and Karlovci. He used the intellectual network created by the ecclesiastical structures and to some extent also created a personal network that helped him spread the anti-Muslim and anti-Catholic ideas the Orthodox church at that time stood for. As such, he is to a much lesser extent than is often assumed a forerunner of Balkan Enlightenment but appears to be strongly rooted in a rather medieval perception of the world.

Opis:
This paper explores the identity construction of ethnic minority (EM) interpreters in Hong Kong and the way cultural differences are incorporated into interpreting in legal settings. The linkage between the two key themes under this study is intertwined by a proposition that an EM interpreter is able to identify cultural differences at work because of his/her close affiliation with the culture, language and ethnicity. In examining the formation of EM interpreters’ professional identities, the intricate interplay of the interpreters’ perceptions, knowledge, native values and beliefs on the one hand and institutional mechanisms/mainstream practice on the other, will be studied. Based on the theoretical framework of Jenkins’ internal-external dialectic of identification developed in Social Identity (2004) and Rethinking Ethnicity (2008), I will integrate Neuliep’s (2009) contextual approach of intercultural communication to examine the integration of cultural differences in interpreters’ interpretation. The research methods primarily used in this project are Milroy’s (1987, 2003) approach of social networking and critical ethnography (Madison 2005). Social networking has been used as an overarching theme in navigating contacts for collecting data and analysing the network dynamics that influence interpreting practice. Likewise, critical ethnography has been used as a tool to investigate how different power structures impact legal interpreting practice. Need for proper assessment, accreditation, professional development opportunities and the code of ethics have emerged as overlapping topics in the process of data collection. As interpreting practice in EM languages in Hong Kong is still relatively unexplored, the project aims at providing viable recommendations to the development of the interpreting profession in legal settings, in particular in Hong Kong.
Media społecznościowe zastały użyte do zebrania danych potrzebnych do analizy. Despite the increasing influence of European legislation on the subnational level of government and local public policy, until recently, the subnational level has played only a marginal role in exploring Europeanization processes. With the creation of the single market in the early 1990s, the process of European integration began to have a significant impact on local governments across Europe. Subsequently, the development of European regional and cohesion policy resulted in the adaptation of the political and administrative structures of the local units of the Member States. However, the impact of European integration is not one-sided. The European Union's multilevel governance system and the spread of the impact of Europeanization on interstate levels pose new challenges for European cities and local actors and enable them to actively participate and influence political decision-making processes at the European level. The paper first conceptualizes the phenomenon of Europeanization and then identifies and addresses its dimensions and mechanisms in the field of local self-government. Emphasis is placed on the implementation of European legislation by local authorities and the institutional and non-institutional (indirect and direct) participation of subnational units in European governance. In an attempt to provide answers to the research questions, the author used the legal analysis and the teleological and linguistic method.

Wireless network communication standards have become very common due to the huge benefits of their application. The use of radio waves to create networks has reduced infrastructure costs and increased the mobility of devices. The advantages of wireless communication (WLAN) also pose a challenge to the security of transmitted data. However, the use of a wireless signal poses certain threats to network security. The aim of the study was to analyse problems related to the security of WLAN 802.11. and assess its resistance to various attack strategies. It was assumed that wireless networks have an insufficient level of security. The assumed assumption is verifiable due to the ability to monitor events in networks. In order to verify the hypothesis, a number of experiments have been carried out in laboratory conditions, concerning the currently used WLAN protections from the IEEE 802.11 family of standards. The electromagnetic waves used for communication are available to the public at a distance of a few / several dozen metres from the communicating devices. It is easy to monitor air traffic using a network card that operates in monitor mode. The communication itself cannot be secured in any way, so data encryption is one way of secure transmission. During the research, the applied security features were successfully broken with the help of publicly available tools. The obtained results are distinguished by a high level of objectivity and reliability in the assessment of applied wireless network security. It was shown that there are still imperfections in the security and it is possible to break the security measures. The consequences of attacks are very serious and lead to a breach of each of the attributes of secure information. Practice has shown that it is impossible to create a wireless network that is fully secure. The findings of the study should be used to develop methods to improve information security, as well as to raise users’ awareness of existing threats. Not all users of wireless networks are aware of how easy some of the commonly used security features are to break.

An important technique to optimize a network and improve network robustness is traffic engineering. As traffic demand increases, traffic engineering can reduce service degradation and failure in the network. To allow a network to adapt to changes in the traffic pattern, the research community proposed several traffic engineering techniques for the traditional networking architecture. However, the traditional network architecture is difficult to manage. Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a new networking model, which decouples the control plane and data plane of the networking devices. It promises to simplify network management, introduces network programmability, and provides a global view of network state. To exploit the potential of SDN, new traffic engineering methods are required. This paper surveys the state of the art in traffic engineering techniques with an emphasis on traffic engineering for SDN. It focuses on some of the traffic engineering methods for the traditional network architecture and the lessons that can be learned from them for better traffic engineering methods for SDN-based networks. This paper also explores the research challenges and future directions for SDN traffic engineering solutions.

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is seen as the most promising networking technology today. The spread of a new technology depends on the acceptance of the engineers implementing the networks. Typically, when engineers start the conceptualization of new network devices that work with a new paradigm, and that should provide expected business values, they must identify and utilize technical enablers for the defined business use cases. This paper tries to summarize essential SDN applications and defines the technical enablers for advanced and efficient SDN networking. To this end, we identify the core technical mechanisms, expecting to provide a useful analysis for the design of new SDN networks.
