Opis:
The author analyses commentaries on classical music in the Polish media. She indicates that this kind of journalism appears rarely in the broad-range press, on the radio and on television, but that it plays an important role in culture and music press. As far as the broadcast media are concerned, it appears mainly in the public media. The author analy-ses selected press titles, their genres and content. She observes that the functions of press are more and more often adopted by the Internet (the Internet fora or musical blogs). The restricted number of commentary genres is transparent in press articles, while reviews and interviews are most frequent. The authors of these texts are often inexperienced and lack appropriate education. One of the reasons of the limitations of the music commen-tary is that the articles and programmes seem interesting only to a small group of receiv-ers, and the senders are subject to conditions of the free market and conform to the most common tastes. Therefore, when analysing this issue, the receiver’s perspective seems very important. Media interest in music commentary depends on the receivers’ cultural activity, and this activity depends on the level of general education and music culture in the country. Polish music tradition is much weaker than in many other countries, such as Germany. The abandonment of musical commentary would be unfavourable, because such journalism plays many important functions, such as culture- and opinion-making functions.

Opis:
This text is a short description of a new academic course: “Music journalism”. The author offers an analysis of media forms in press, as well as on the radio, television and the internet. Besides the traditional forms and genres, students can analyse such forms as internet encyclopaedias or websites dedicated to music. The teacher analyses with the students the frame structures of television and radio stations, and the nature of broad-casts. There is also a possibility of analysing music press: articles, reviews and columns. The next step is teaching students to write such forms as a column or a review. Students learn practical skills in a studio, as the lecturer teaches them to broadcast live radio pro-grammes (cooperating with a professional radio DJ). The course gives an introduction to the history of classical and popular music.

Opis:
Mathematics and Music - two dierent aspects of human creativity, seemingly belonging to separate areas: science and humanities. Despite this, there are multiple well-known common elements and analogies between the two. Especially well explored is the use of mathematics in music. The opposite, which is the use of music in mathematics, seems unusual and is rarely discussed, including the educational aspect. This paper proposes an exemplary approach of using music to enrich and facilitate mathematics teaching and provides its initial empirical verification. The research presented in this paper describes an additional model which presents the possibility and efectiveness of using music to teach geometric transformations of the plane (reflection symmetry and point reflection) at 6th-7th elementary music school grade levels (12 - 13 years old students). The research initially confrmed the hypothesis that the analysis of musical themes and their transformations can be used in music schools as a new model of facilitating the mathematical understanding of reflection symmetry and point reflection. After an experimental music theory lesson concerning melody transformations and a presentation of the parallels between geometric transformations and their melodic transformation equivalents, the results of the POST-TEST in mathematics were significantly better than the PRE-TEST results for the entire experimental class. Moreover, the spontaneous transfer of knowledge from music to mathematics, concerning the understanding of point and reflection symmetry, was observed. The new musical model turned out to be a useful artifact to some students. The additional research results concern the awareness of the possibility of knowledge transfer between mathematics and music. The teachers of mathematics and music theory involved with the experimental class have not made use of the possibility of transferring musical knowledge to mathematics before, while elementary-level music school students are aware of some analogies between mathematics and music.

Opis:
This article deals with children’s music books written by Izabella Klebanska and Anna Czerwinska-Rydel. The author analyzes the content of the musical knowledge contained in the mentioned sources. Systematizes and exchanges issues in books. In addition, she describes the variety of ways of presenting musical knowledge. He points out the significant differences in the work of both authors and gives examples of their applied – not only – literary works, aimed at broadening the knowledge and shaping the musical interest of the young reader. It then discusses the illustration function, which is an important factor in helping or distorting the reception of the next, and thereby contributing to the cognitive competence of the child in the in the field of music.

musical activity of women during pregnancy
children’s reactions to music in the prenatal and neonatal period
Opis:
The study showed that mothers in both groups know about the benefits of taking up musical activity during pregnancy. However, they differ in their assessment of these advantages, such as faster development of the child’s hearing and musical abilities, or the occurrence after birth of reactions to music the child knows from the fetal period. Statistical differences were also found in the responses concerning the ways of acquiring knowledge on musical development in the prenatal period. More young women sought it out on the Internet, in scientific literature, in women’s magazines, at universities, or at gynecology clinics, and admitted that they indeed had such knowledge. The respondents, however, were consistent in their assessment of the pe-riod during which the child begins to hear, and in their responses to the most important stages of the child’s musical development. The musical activity of women during pregnancy differed in many respects between the compared groups. It was found that more women who had recently given birth engaged in it advisedly, aware of the impact of music on the child. Moreover, the respondents differed in terms of how often they engaged in singing, listening to music, moving in time to music, and attending concerts of popular music, with the young mothers again being more active in this respect. Statistically, more younger women also sang lullabies and poetry, and listened to clas-sical, popular music, rock, hip-hop, reggae, and jazz.Further differences were related to the findings of the respondents concerning their children’s reactions to music in the prenatal and neonatal periods. It was demonstrated that more young women observed increased fetal mobility in response to music. They also noticed in their newborn children preferences for certain songs, particularly ones they knew from the prenatal period, along with such reactions as smiling, directing attention to the source of the sound, or giving the impression of listening to music. Young mothers were also more aware of the relationship between musical activity during pregnancy and after childbirth and later musical behavior. The results obtained in the present study should be explained by the dynamic growth of knowledge on human musical development of over the past several decades, and by its growing popularization. This is related not only to the increase of young mothers’ awareness of the benefits of prenatal musical stimulation of children, but also to taking specific actions, which gives hope for better use of its developmental potential.
