Zograf Monastery - Mount Athos - manuscripts - archives
Opis:
The literary treasures of the Holy Monastery of St. George the Zograf (widely known as Zograf Monastery) on Mount Athos, Greece, have attracted the scholarly attention for almost two centuries now. Built back in the X c., the Monastery has been inhabited by Slavic monks, predominantly Bulgarian in origin, for a millennium. Numerous medieval books have been taken by different visitors from the Monastery's Library and “migrated”, mainly to the lands of the former Russian Empire. Despite that, due to the relative difficulties in terms of access, the Library and its manuscripts have neither seen proper cataloguing so far, nor have been studied to a sufficient extent. The present article makes an overview of several topics. First, it sketches the history of cataloguing attempts made for Zograf's Library since XIX c. to contemporary undertakings. Second, it describes the current state of the Library's repertoire, which is by far wider than expected until recently, and the formation of several teams with different fields of research in order to cover the whole range of thousands of hand-written books and documents spanning all over ten centuries. Third, the article traces the stages of the decade lasting (and still continuing) process of digitalization of the Zograf's literary heritage and the attempts of providing its accessibility to the scholars - at least for its most valuable pieces, if not in total.

Radon (222Rn) activity concentration in outdoor air was measured, using AlphaGuard radon monitors, at 25 points in the Mt. Etna area, at different distances and in different directions from the summit. Values of up to 93 Bqźm–3 were found at three points close to the summit, at altitudes of about 3000 m above the sea level, and in the range of 3.0–19.6 Bqźm–3 elsewhere. An average radon concentration of 7.9 Bqźm–3 was obtained in the northern region, 4.8 Bqźm–3 in the eastern (oriented towards the sea), 9.6 Bqźm–3 in the western (the furthest inland), and 6.5 Bqźm–3 in the southern.

Opis:
The first suite of epidosite from the Central Sudetic Ophiolites has been discovered in the sheeted dyke complex of the Mount Ślęża ophiolite (SW Poland). Epidosites from the Mount Ślęża ophiolite represent A-type epidosites which metasomatically replaced diabasic sheeted dykes of the Strzegomiany–Kunów Fe-Ti mineralisation zone. They form decimetre-scale elongated pistachio-green patches or veins within single dykes. Their composition (quartz + epidote + titanite) is analogue to Troodos ophiolite end-member epidosite of Cyprus. The pistacite content of epidote range from Ps16 to Ps31 and is similar to those from other ophiolitic epidosites. Titanite is low in Al2O3 (0.61 to 1.10 wt.%) and Fe2O3 (0.43 to 0.63 wt.%) and high in V2O5 (from 0.22 to 0.47 wt.%). The presence of epidosites in the Mount Ślęża ophiolite can be considered as an evidence of its supra-subduction zone (SSZ) affinity. Finally, a direct link between the epidosite formation and the release of base metals from its protolith (Cu, Zn and Co) indicates the possibility of the Cyprus-type volcanogenic massive sulphide deposit (VMS) formation in the Mount Ślęża ophiolite.

Opis:
The study investigates the performance of a semi-active vehicle engine mount incorporating an MR damper working in the squeeze mode (MRSQD), summarising its design, operating principles and key characteristics. The mathematical model of the mount is formulated based on the newly developed MRSQD. Two control algorithms are proposed for MRSQD control. The first algorithm (ALG1) uses the inverse model of the engine-frame system, the other is the sliding mode algorithm (ALG2). The effectiveness of the engine mount system is demonstrated in computer simulation.

Opis:
In article I propose taking a look at the Mount Ślęża in Poland in the context of Pierre Nora’s lieux de mémoire concept. Ślęża is an important heritage site as although it has been the topic of many studies and scientific investigations, interest in this unusual mountain goes well beyond scientific discourse. This paper focuses on not only what Ślęża meant to prehistoric people but mainly on its contemporary significance, with specific attention to the various functions that it fulfils today. By revealing the breadth of discourses on Ślęża and highlighting its vitality and relevance in the lives of many people, it also attmpts to put forward a dialogue between archaeologists, heritage professionals and groups holding alternative views on the current meaning or role of the Mount Ślęża.

The article presents the results of numerical simulations using the FEM (Finite Element Method) of the engine mount strength for mounting an aircraft diesel engine with opposite pistons called PZL-100. Four versions of the mount prepared by aircraft engine producer WSK "PZL-Kalisz" company were analyzed. Tests were performed in Catia v5 software in the Generative Structure Analysis module. The boundary conditions were engine gravity force, propeller thrust force, and propeller torque. S235JR steel was defined as the material. A design grid with tetrahedral elements with a single element size of 2 mm was used. As part of the simulation study, four structural solutions for the test engine mounts were calculated in terms of strength. The results of stress maps and the magnitude of deformation of the mount elements were compared. Based on the obtained results, one of the mount versions was recommended for actual fabrication.

The article is devoted to the non-fiction novel by Jalu Kurek Mount Everest 1924 published in 1933. We argue against the point of view expressed by critics who claimed that this book has to be seen only as a kind of “intermezzo” in the writer’s career. The book’s various aspects are connected with contemporary market trends, formal experiments, specific topics (the passion for climbing and the position taken in the discussion about the future of Alpinism) and ideological contexts (the fundamental aporias of modernism: faith in progress and in the post-Nietzschean new man versus existential anxiety of an attentive observer of the world). All this makes it an important element of the artistic journey of this Cracovian poet and prose writer.

The engine is the most important component of a vehicle. It attaches to the main frame via the engine mounting bracket which supports weight and operating loads. The engine mount therefore plays a crucial role in the durability and comfort of the vehicle. This article contributes to the search for the most optimal model from the point of view of resistance, environmental impact, and manufacturing cost. This involves, on the one hand, optimizing the support by reducing its initial mass by 30%, and on the other hand, seeking suitable material and manufacturing process with the least environmental impact. To this end, topology optimization will be combined with an environmental assessment and a manufacturing cost analysis. Four materials will be tested and evaluated. Finally, a cost analysis will present a comparison between a conventional process and 3D printing.

The study was conducted on the extraction of volcanic ash from Mount Sinabung through the co-precipitation method to recover silicon dioxide (SiO2). The X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis showed that the SiO2 content in volcanic ash was 48.5%, and after extraction, it was 99.1%. The morphology shown by scanning electron microscope (SEM) indicated that SiO2 looks cleaner and tends to be the same size compared to the volcanic ash sample. The average particle size of volcanic ash and extracted SiO2 were 32.28571 ± 2.51259 and 12.97521 ± 0.60657 μm, respectively. The X-ray diffractometer (XRD) analysis showed that the crystal structure of the volcanic ash sample was quartz, maghemite, and cristobalite. Besides, the extracted SiO2 had an amorphous quartz crystal structure. The test conducted using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) resulted in the absorption of 1095.57 cm-1 and 798.53 cm-1 for the Si‒O‒Si and Si‒OH groups which were the groups of siloxanes and silanols, respectively.
