    The present article attempts to show the moral and spiritual dimensions of the following of Jesus Christ and to emphasize their specific character and the relation that exists between them. It is based on the document issued by the Pontifical Biblical Commission entitled The Bible and Morality as well as on theological-moral and theological-spiritual literature. In order to justify “the Biblical roots of Christian conduct” to a modern man the analyzed document sets them on the idea of the gift of the Old and New Covenant as well as of other biblical ideas understood in the Christological and personalistic way. To do so it also stresses the importance of spiritual experience (of God, of Christ), owing to which it appreciates spirituality as prior to revealed morality. This spirituality is always assumed when the origin and the obligation to realize the revealed moral norms is meant. To what degree morality is inscribed in man's spiritual development is then explained by a theological-spiritual reflection on the Christian experience that should always take into consideration moral obligations (commandments, blessings). The article takes this into consideration, making short references to some ethical-spiritual models and to stages in the development of the spiritual life.

    Autor poddaje pod dyskusję moralny aspekt takich zjawisk społecznych, jak bieda, ubóstwo oraz bogactwo. Zauważa, że między cywilizacją techniczną a bytem ludzkim obserwuje się coraz większe kontrasty i dysonanse. O ile bowiem w dziedzinie techniki i technologii światowej obser-wujemy ustawiczny postęp, o tyle w sferze zjawisk społecznych (jak np. bieda i ubóstwo) ludzkość przejawia pewną bezradność. Stwierdza, że najsłabszym ogniwem współczesnego świata pozostaje dystrybucja dóbr rynkowych oparta na ludzkich zasadach moralnych. Wskazane jest, aby podział dóbr cywilizacyjnych przebiegał bardziej sprawiedliwie niż obecnie. W tym kontek-ście słowo „sprawiedliwie” nie znaczy równo, ale godziwie.
    The Author discusses a moral aspect of such social phenomena as poverty and wealth. He argues that more and more contrasts and dissonances are observed between technical civilization and human existence. Simultaneously with continual progress in a field of the world technique and technology, in a sphere of social phenomena (as poverty) humanity seems to be helpless. The Author maintains that a distribution of market goods basing on human moral rules constitutes the weakest link of the modern world. It would be as well to divide the goods of civilization in more justified way than currently. In this context a word “justified” does not mean evenly but fairly.

    In his work as a writer, Józef Wittlin searched for literature able to grant the   reader moral support, while at the same time being artistically successful. In his novel Salt of the Earth, the way to com-bine these two, to a certain extent contradictionary aims, is found in the use of irony. An analysis of the classical types of irony appearing in the novel (naive irony, irony of the sender, verbal irony) leads to the conclusion that each of those was remarkably modified by the author. As a result, the “ironical anthropology” created by Wittlin in his novel lacks any elements of simple moralizing or giving ready-made moral solutions, but brings a striking image of a human commu-nity, unified not by a common status, but by a common fate. In the novel, irony turns out to be not only a textual figure, but first and foremost a moral stance, approximate to that of Socrates as described by Kierkegaard. Thanks to this stance, Wittlin enthuses his readers with the longing for the ideal, shaping their moral sensibility, at the same time granting them the sovereignty to which the reader of a literary work should be entitled.

    Ethics is set of rules, norms, regulations, writs and bans that determine the ways of people’s behavior as well as a branch of philosophy that studies morality and creates intellectual systems, which the moral rules could be derived from. Business ethics is a branch of knowledge that deals with a moral dimension of economic activity. It is a set of justified moral standards that decide upon what is moral and what is immoral in business. This discipline deals with the implementation of general ethical rules to resolve dilemmas in the situations characteristic for business. In the 1980s and 1990s there emerged moral breakthrough in a business practice. Nowadays, business ethics delivers knowledge not only regarding the moral aspects connected to economic activity, but it also initiates a social movement called CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). CSR is such an economic activity that aims at achieving the balance between effectiveness of a company and social interest. Business ethics and the values connected with this concept are included in a definition of ethics. One cannot speak about business ethics without using general ethical norms.

    At first glance naturalism seems to be an integral part of contemporary science. For science there exist only those phenomena which can be examined with scientific methods (an ontological thesis), and any explanation of those phenomena must appeal only to natural causes, i.e. to structures, processes and regularities underlying those phenomena, and not to any supernatural forces (a methodological thesis). If we look at naturalism as a paradigm of doing science, a pattern that determines what and how should be investigated, some limits of this paradigm show itself. When doing experiments, scientists sometimes meet moral prohibitions of treating certain obviously natural objects in certain ways. This fact may be interpreted as a product of social evolution which science is entitled to ignore, for it can change in the process of further evolution, or as an external factor which science should not ignore under the peril of losing social support. None of these interpretation does justice to some basic facts about science (including the fact that social support was never withdrawn regardless of well known cases of immoral scientific practices). The prohibition of treating certain natural objects in certain ways may also be interpreted as a consequence of discovering the moral dimension of nature understood as the essence of things. Yet, the normative dimension of nature cannot be investigated with scientific methods. Thus, for a consistent naturalist it does not exist; and even more − following moral prohibitions could be seen as detrimental for science in cases where morality prohibits applying the most effective scientific methods. It seems however that no scientist defends the reduction of scientific ethics to scientific methodology. In this sense the nature-essence of things practically limits naturalism seen as a paradigm of doing science. The paper argues for the above thesis in three steps: (1) various meanings of the terms “nature”, “natural”, and “naturalism” are presented; (2) it is shown in what sense contemporary science is unnatural but naturalistic; (3) a case where science “meets” moral prohibitions concerning natural beings − producing transgenic animals − is discussed. It is then shown that any interpretation of these prohibitions consistent with the naturalistic paradigm cannot be maintained, whereas the interpretation which recognizes the moral dimension of nature-essence does justice to facts and intuitions concerning this case.

    Opis:
    Communication ethics in foreign language teaching (based on the example of teaching German as a foreign language) Drawing on both the theory of communication ethics and his personal experience in teaching the principles of moral communication, the author puts forward a proposal to include them in foreign language teaching, and specifically in teaching German as a foreign language. The reflections presented in the paper are directed at teachers of German in senior classes in secondary schools, who deal with advanced preadult students. Considerations about class didactics are preceded by the presentation of the bases and aims of such education. The model which is postulated by the author includes reflections on such issues as the use of language with respect to human dignity, discrimination, domination, lying and manipulation as manifestations of unethical communication.
