    Cognitive structures are the basic mental pattern people use to process any information. Alternatively cognitive structures include mental structures, mental tools, and patterns of thought. Metaphorical thinking being one of the mental tool present innate in human being which when practiced consciously could help developing cognitive structures in turn help to process information. It is very important to note that each individual has to develop his/her own cognitive structures by means of practice of Metaphorical thinking as mental tool through good teaching/learning practices similar to an athlete involved in rigorous physical training to meet the challenge of the competition. The present paper explains the influence of metaphorical thinking as a mental tool in determining the cognitive structures based on content, activities and assessment of the given information passed from teachers to students during teaching-learning process.

    The modern linguistics is gaining a more and more anthropocentric markedness. This contributes, among others, to increased interest in language awareness. This paper is intended to provide both an overview and a systematisation. The threads it touches upon concern three issues. The author defines the very notion of language awareness, outlines the operating mechanisms of the mental base of speech, and identifies the subjects to whom language awareness may be attributed. Language awareness needs to be considered a separate mental structure being a fragment of the general human awareness. The structure has a dual nature. Some of its reserves are innate components, others are contents and dispositions obtained in the course of individual development. Both are responsible for language acquisition, coordinate language activities, and substantiate various judgments regarding speech as a portion of the collective life, i.e. a product of culture and a culture-building measure. The contents composing the broadly defined individual language awareness at the same time create the cognitive sphere, the pragmatic sphere, and the affective sphere. Obviously, specific language decisions are influenced by collective linguistic views. The speaker always gives in to supraindividual rules, which are an outcome of the states of collective consciousness.

    The study presents the content-analysis (n=135) and factor analysis of students’ mental states of expectations (n=123). The understanding of mental states of expectations by education workers allows for the operationalization of the process of solving tasks of students’ academic and professional training. The purpose is to examine the structure, variables and interdependence of the factors of students’ mental states of expectations. The research methods are content-analysis, tests with standardized questionnaires, factor analysis. Factor analysis was used to determine the structure of mental states of expectations. The principal factor in this structure is F1“meaning-of-life moderation” (20.70%), which is interrelated with F2 “pragmatic regulation” (=.404; p≤.01) and F3 “subjective regulation” (=.357; p≤.01). The obtained results could be useful for education directors organizing the academic process of students, and also for scientists in the field of psychology of expectations, psychology of constructing the future.

    This paper explores the nature of interlanguage (IL) as a developing system with a focus on the abstract lexical structure underlying IL construction. The developing system of IL is assumed to be ‘composite’ in that in second language acquisition (SLA) several linguistic systems are in contact, each of which may contribute different amounts to the developing system. The lexical structure is assumed to be ‘abstract’ in that the mental lexicon contains abstract elements called ‘lemmas’, which contain information about individual lexemes, and lemmas in the bilingual mental lexicon are language-specific and are in contact in IL production. Based on the research findings, it concludes that language transfer in IL production should be understood as lemma transfer of the learner's first language (L1) lexical structure at three abstract levels: lexical-conceptual structure, predicate-argument structure, and morphological realization patterns, and IL construction is driven by an incompletely acquired abstract lexical structure of a target language (TL) item.

    The aim of this paper is to show why the neo-Pythagorean claims concerning musical structure are out-of-date and require the incorporation of contemporary psychological knowledge. The neo-Pythagorean view of musical structure has been analyzed and confronted with the contemporary neuropsychological view of music perception. It has been also suggested that musical intervals exist solely in human brains as a kind of interpretation of acoustic sounds. These sounds can be interpreted differently depending on many factors, which the popular speech-to-song illusion clearly illustrates. Another example of neo-Pythagorean ideas about musical structure that need psychological knowledge is tonal hierarchy, which also exists solely in human brains. Therefore, the popular musicological description of musical intervals in terms of mathematical proportions is misleading. It has been proposed that current musicological theories should always be confronted and consistent with contemporary psychological knowledge. This implies closer cooperation between musicology and the psychology of music.

    Predicate-argument structure of Polish and Bulgarian polyprefixal verbsThe modern Bulgarian and Polish languages display a tendency to create polyprefixal verbs that are characteristic carriers of expression in the spoken language. This tendency is especially apparent in Bulgarian. A question then arises: is the complexity of formative structure of such units reflected in their predicate-argument structure? In order to answer this question, it was necessary to conduct an analysis of predicate-argument structure of the polyprefixal verbs belonging to the class of the verba mentalis. The study has shown that all the analyzed polyprefixal verbs, despite their formal complexity, constitute a uniform class of two-argument predicates that create very similar sentence structures. Against the background of other verba mentalis, they are distinguished by very high frequency of occurrence of independent elements having a pleonastic value in relation to the verbum. Struktura predykatowo-argumentowa polskich i bułgarskich czasowników poliprefiksalnychWe współczesnych językach bułgarskim i polskim coraz częściej spotyka się czasowniki poliprefiksalne, stanowiące nośniki ekspresji charakterystyczne dla języka mówionego. Tendencję tę można zaobserwować zwłaszcza w języku bułgarskim. Powstaje pytanie: czy złożona struktura formalna tych czasowników znajduje odzwierciedlenie w ich strukturze predykatowo-argumentowej? Aby odpowiedzieć na to pytanie, należało przeprowadzić analizę struktury predykatowo-argumentowej poliprefiksalnych czasowników typu verba mentalis. Potwierdziła ona, że czasowniki takie, mimo złożonej struktury formalnej, tworzą jednorodną klasę predykatów dwuargumentowych, realizujących podobne struktury składniowe. Na tle pozostałych verba mentalis czasowniki te odróżnia częste stosowanie tzw. swobodnych fraz pleonastycznych, powtarzających semantykę danego czasownika.

    Statystyki światowe wskazują, że około 10-20% populacji dzieci i młodzieży doświadcza różnorodnych problemów ze zdrowiem psychicznym. Potrzeby dzieci z zaburzeniami psychicznymi są złożone. W celu zapewnienia im dobrej opieki i skutecznej terapii ważne jest zrozumienie kontekstualnych wpływów środowiskowych (zwłaszcza rodzinnych) leżących u podłoża zaburzeń zdrowia psychicznego. Rodzinne czynniki decydujące o problemach ze zdrowiem psychicznym dzieci i młodzieży to przede wszystkim jakość przywiązania, charakter wewnątrzrodzinnych relacji interpersonalnych i struktura rodziny.
    The prevalence rate of children and adolescents affected by anxiety, attention deficit, depression, addictions and other disorders is conservatively estimated at 10-20% young people at any given time. The needs of children with psychological dysfunction are complex. In order to provide children with quality care and appropriate management of mental health problems, it is important to understand some of the contextual issues (means family factors) that underlie a child’s etiology of a mental disorder. Family factors influencing mental health of children and adolescents are characterized by constant interaction of experience starting with early attachment, interpersonal family relations and structure of family.

    Mimo zachodzących w Polsce transformacji i w ich rezultacie, pozytywnych zmian w miastach, problemy dotyczące jakości przestrzeni w wielu fragmentach pozostają nierozwiązane. Brak podejmowanych działań w kierunku uzyskania czytelnej strategii w planowaniu przestrzennym prowadzi do stagnacji zastanych warunków. W konsekwencji sprzyja to pogłębianiu się problemów, ich nawarstwianiu oraz rozprzestrzenianiu się patologii przestrzennej. Metoda budowy „map mentalnych” miasta, poprzez stworzenie kręgosłupa urbanistyczno-architektonicznego, zaznaczonego w konkretnym krajobrazie miejskim, pozwoliłaby na świadome wskazanie i podkreślenie znaczenia konkretnych terenów i obiektów, przy zachowaniu ciągłości ich wspólnych relacji. Zaznaczenie potencjału przestrzeni publicznych oraz terenów rekreacyjnych i szczególnie wartościowych, po uprzednim rozpoznaniu potrzeb i możliwości kształtowania, stwarzałoby również szansę weryfikowania danego systemu społecznego. Celem artykułu jest postawienie diagnozy w formie wniosków, dotyczących jakości przestrzeni w miastach na podstawie projektu "mapy mentalnej" jako narzędzia służącego do uzyskania wyrazistej struktury miasta, w celu świadomego jej kształtowania.
    Despite the ongoing transformations in Poland and the resultant positive developments in the towns, the problems related to space quality remain unresolved in a number of fragments. The lack of measures taken towards obtaining a clear strategy in spatial planning leads to stagnation of the existing conditions. As a result, it promotes deepening problems, their building-up and the spread of spatial pathology. Through the creation of urban and architectural spine, highlighted in a particular urban landscape, the method of "mental maps" of the city would allow for the deliberate indication and stressing of the importance of specific areas and facilities, while maintaining continuity of their joint relationship. Underlining the potential of public spaces, recreational and particularly valuable areas, after identifying the needs and shaping possibilities, would also create the chance to verify a particular social system. The article aims to make diagnosis in the form of conclusions concerning space quality in cities on the basis of "mental map" project as a tool for developing the distinctive structure of the city in order to shape it designedly.

    Artykuł analizuje naturę rozwoju afektów, ich regresje i implikacje w różnych psychologicznych teoriach i podejściach współczesnej psychologii. Omówiono i opisano korzyści oraz znaczenie afektów w całej aktywności psychobiologicznej człowieka. Określono mechanizmy wpływu afektów na zachowanie i indywidualne reakcje na bodźce zewnętrzne. Afekty stają się specyficzne, ponieważ ich znaczenie i okoliczności są powiązane z pewnymi sytuacjami, reakcjami, uczuciami, gestami ciała, mimiką i słowami. Są związane z pewnymi przedmiotami i stanami Ego i mogą pełnić funkcje ochronne organizmu. Struktura psychologiczna afektów sprawia, że dany stan emocjonalny ogólnie wpływa na psychikę, a w szczególności na świadomość.
    The article examines the nature of affect development, its regression and implication in the theories of different psychological approaches of modern psychology. Benefits and comparative significance of affects for the whole psychobiological activity are presented and described. The mechanisms of affect influence on behaviour and personal reactions to external stimuli are defined. Affects become specific as their meanings and circumstances are associated with certain situations, reactions, feelings, bodily gestures, facial expressions and words. They are associated with certain objects and states of the Ego and can acquire protective functions. The affect psychological structure is such that the given emotional state influences the psyche in general, and in particular, the consciousness.
