Opis:
The paper is concerned with solving the transport pollutant problem for a steady, gradually varied flow in an open channel network. The 1D advective-diffusive transport equation is solved using the splitting technique. An analytical solution of the linear advective-diffusive equation in the form of an impulse response function is used to solve the advection-diffusion part of the governing equation. This approach, previously applied in solutions of the advection-diffusion equation for a single channel, is extended to a channel network. Numerical calculations are only required to compute the integral of convolution. The finite difference method is used to solve the second part of the governing equation, containing the source term. The applied approach has considerable advantages, especially appreciable in the case of advection-dominated transport with large gradients of concentration, since it generates no numerical dissipation or dispersion. The flow parameters are obtained via solution of the steady, gradually varied flow equation. In the final non-linear system of algebraic equations obtained through approximation of the ordinary differential equation, the depths at each cross-section of channels and the discharge at each branch of the network are considered as unknowns. The system is solved using the modified Picard iteration, which ensures convergence of the iterative process for a steady, gradually varied flow solved for both looped and tree-type open channel networks.

Opis:
We reduce the convolution of radius functions to that of 1-variable functions. Then we present formulas for computing convolutions of an abstract radius function on ℝ³ with various integral kernels - given by elementary or discontinuous functions. We also prove a theorem on the asymptotic behaviour of a convolution at infinity. Lastly, we deduce some estimates which enable us to find the asymptotics of the velocity and pressure of a fluid (described by the Navier-Stokes equations) in the boundary layer.

Opis:
In this paper the way of modeling phenomena occurring during the voltage and current waves passing through a point connection of two lines, with different wave impedance operators, is presented. This connection point is called „the wave transformer”. The analyzes and the resulting formulas concern not the frequency domain, but the time domain. The appropriate transition matrices of waves through the wave transformer are defined. This matrices are the convolution integral-derivative operators of fractional order (the digital filters). For a lossless line the wave transition matrices through the wave transformer become number type instead of operator type. All matrix multiplications occurring in the formulas should be understood in convolution way.

Opis:
In recent papers the authors studied global smoothness preservation by certain univariate and multivariate linear operators over compact domains. Here the domain is ℝ. A very general positive linear integral type operator is introduced through a convolution-like iteration of another general positive linear operator with a scaling type function. For it sufficient conditions are given for shift invariance, preservation of global smoothness, convergence to the unit with rates, shape preserving and preservation of continuous probabilistic functions. Finally, four examples of very general specialized operators are presented fulfilling all the above properties; in particular, the inequalities for global smoothness preservation are proven to be sharp.
