    In the article, the author presents in an expanded approach the results of previously conducted research, described in his previous publications and aimed at understanding the needs and capabilities of Polish micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs) in recognizing challenges and implementing practical solutions from the area fitted to of the Industry 4.0 paradigm. In addition to the detailed and based on selected examples discussion of the results of the first round of surveys conducted among the owners and management staff of this category of enterprises operating in the area of the Upper Silesian – Zagłębie Metropolis in the Upper Silesian Voivodship, the results obtained in the second round of research were also shown and compared with first-round results. The results obtained are the basis for the plan of further, extended research. The author presents the elements of such research plan in the last part of this article.

    In this paper the author tries to present and analyze some results of his researches focused on surveying the expectations and needs as well as troubles and difficulties concerned with confronting small and medium size enterprises (SME’s) with various challenges generated by the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0). After presenting in the first part of the paper a listing and some subjective discussion of general as well as particular problems of implementing the Industry 4.0 approach in practice of the contemporary industry, in next chapters the adopted assumptions as well as obtained results of the SME’s oriented survey are introduced together with a short presentation and discussion of used methods and tools of research. The cases of Polish SME’s are illustrated by results of investigating a limited group of firms, which fulfil SME criteria and are located and operating in Metropolis GZM (Silesian Voivodeship, Poland). In the last part of the papers the author summarizes obtained results and proposes some next steps of further research.

    Opis:
    Professional development should be an inseparable part of a teacher’s professional career. Although it is the teacher’s sole responsibility, the action he/she undertakes greatly influences learners’ success. The goal of the paper is to investigate in-service English language teachers’ professional development practices, as well as delve into their needs and expectations in this area. The data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire. The results show that teachers are aware of the lifelong nature of professional development and undertake various activities to improve the quality of teaching, such as workshops or reading didactic literature. However, their attitudes, practices and needs differ and are contingent on their education level, experience and workplace.
    Rozwój zawodowy powinien być nieodłączną częścią pracy nauczyciela. Mimo, że nauczyciel jest w nim jedyną jednostką podejmującą się zadań doskonalących jego umiejętności, jego decyzje mają bezpośredni wpływ na postępy uczniów. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przyjrzenie się rozwojowi zawodowemu nauczycieli języka Angielskiego oraz zbadanie ich potrzeb i oczekiwań w tym zakresie. Dane zostały zgromadzone za pomocą częściowo ustrukturalizowanego kwestionariusza. Badania wykazały, że nauczyciele są świadomi, że rozwój zawodowy jest procesem trwającym przez cały okres kariery zawodowej. Nauczyciele podejmują się różnych form rozwoju wpływających na poprawę nauczania, takich jak warsztaty lub czytanie literatury dydaktycznej, jednak ich opinie, praktyka i potrzeby różnią się i są uwarunkowane ich poziomem wykształcenia, doświadczeniem zawodowym oraz miejscem pracy.

    Academic courses aim to develop kinds of literacy that are significantly different from what students know from other contexts. Mastering ways of constructing knowledge in scholarly disciplines in a foreign language poses a considerable challenge, not only for the uninitiated. The challenge is none the less small for English for Academic Purposes (EAP) writing instructors as the currently observed diversity of student populations in master’s programs compels them to revise some of their long-standing assumptions and practices. The article reports on a study aiming to compare MA seminar teachers’ and beginner MA students’ perceptions of writing needs and an EAP course expectations and suggests how the responses can be used constructively in writing pedagogy.

    Opis:
    Model WPR po roku 2013 jest sprawą niesłychanie żywotną z punktu widzenia polskiego sektora rolnego i polskiej wsi, ale i w ogóle polskiej gospodarki. Oczekiwania polskiego sektora rolnego względem WPR w latach 2014-2020 wyznaczać będzie poziom wsparcia z roku 2013 oraz potrzeby modernizacyjne sektora i dostarczanie przez rolnictwo dóbr publicznych. Analiza przeprowadzona w artykule wskazuje, że dla Polski pierwszorzędne znaczenie mają instrumenty polityki rolnej realizowane w obu filarach WPR. Ważnym pozostaje poziom wsparcia, jego wspólnotowy charakter, oraz zachowanie równowagi miedzy wsparciem bezpośrednim, instrumentami prośrodowiskowymi i promodernizacyjnymi.
    The CAP model after 2013 is crucial not only from the agricultural sector point of view, but also from the point of view of the whole Polish economy. Expectations of Polish agricultural sector towards CAP in the years 2014-2020 are going to be determined by the level of support from the year 2013, by the needs to modernize sector and to be able to fulfill its function as a provider of public goods. Analyzes conducted in the paper proves that policy measures from both pillars of the CAP have a basic meaning for Poland. Level of support, its common character, as well as balance between direct support and pro-environmental and pro-modernization measures remain important.

    MET institution’s mission is not only preparing young people for maritime career at sea, forming their professional competences, but also providing help in their career management. For this reason, it is important to know new seafarers’ generation needs and career ambitions, as well as expectations from employers’ point of view. Mutual understanding would help to find a balance between expectations of both and adequately manage changes. Results of research, conducted by surveying 4th year full-time students studying at the Lithuanian Maritime Academy and experts from shipping and crewing companies in Lithuania and Latvia regarding desirable contract conditions and seafarers’ personal and/or professional characteristics, important for successful career, are presented in the article.
