    The Author presents her first Italian translation of Anatol Stern’s article (excerpted from his monograph on Polish Avantgarde Rebelled Poetry. Sketches on Interwar Period Poetry [1964, 2nd issue 1970]) about another prominent initiator and ideologist of Polish futurism, Bruno Jasieński. After the Thaw, Stern first contributed to Jasieński’s rehabilitation, publishing his poetry and the novel I burn Paris and writing several essays about his work. The article presented also offers a choice of translated fragments of Jasieński’s poetry, just a few known in Italy, and an artistic profile of Stern.

    This article is devoted to the strategies of creations of masculinity used in the novel Bravery (pol. Męstwo) written by Bruno Jasieński. The article analyzes the ways in which patriarchate is presented in post-revolutionary social and gender relations as well as the strategies used for the creation of gender identity along with the social consequences of the revolutionary project of emancipation, which was abandoned in the USSR in the early 1930s. An important assumption of the study is also an attempt to establish the relation of this short prose to dominant fiction preserved by the poetics of socialist realism.

    The article focuses on the media transformation of literary works. B. Jasieński’s futurist poem Marsz, published in the interwar period in printed form, recently underwent a multimedia adaptation. The author analyzes the mutations the literary text underwent in interpretation and significance when expressed in the new creative forms of contemporary multimedia “language”. The analysis of the formal structure and of several, sometimes small semantic elements, shows the different way of understanding the poem as expressed through new multimedia means. The futurist poem Marsz has been read as an ironical poem, totally contradicting its original literal meaning. The second part of the article examines a digital version of the poem, which again changes its original meaning. At this moment in time, the relationship between the textuality and virtuality of poetry (and literature in general) constitutes the main space where art “happens” and manifests itself. Thus, the discussion over the digital version of Jasieński’s poem leads to some general considerations about contemporary theory of image and its anthropological expressions.

    Opis:
    One of the novels written by Bruno Jasieński (1901–1938), "Chelavek menayet kozhu" (Man Changes His Skin), was published between 1932 and 1933 and quickly attracted the interest of Soviet critics and readers. Jasieński chose as the background of his story an irrigation project carried out in the Vakhsh Valley in Tajikistan. Writing his novel, he used some of the material collected during his several visits to that Soviet republic. Tajik environment helped him to depict the question of rapid social and economic changes triggered by the communist revolution. The final result of his work is a socially and politically engaged socialist realist novel. An image of Tajikistan, that was carefully outlined on nearly six hundred pages, proves that the writer was not only a shrewd observer of the reality but also an inquisitive researcher of the past. However, it seems that his black-and-white sketch of Tajikistan was not his original concept but rather a requirement of the Soviet propaganda. Referring to some Soviet publications, we can easily find different passages clearly condemning the past and glorifying the present. Nevertheless, this simple comparison of the two opposing colours – black and white – served Bruno Jasieński to create a socially and politically engaged work. Of course, the future verified his idealistic vision of Soviet Tajikistan, making constructive criticism of this highly simplified double portrait.

    A Name in a Buttonhole — Onymy in Poetic Texts (Based on the Example of Bruno Jasieński’s Poetry)This article addresses the issue of the interpretation of proper names in poetry. The state of research on the functions of proper names in literature is well described, but it is possible to note the lack of a fixed interpretation strategy in poetry which means that, despite little interest in poetry, its researchers often try to propose their own methods of analysis. The authors of the article, who tackle onyms in the poetry of Bruno Jasieński, present their own methodological approach to the matter, based on B. Waldenfels’ concept of the “phenomenology of the alien”.

    Artykuł opisuje, w jaki sposób polityczne zaangażowanie polskiego futuryzmu wpłynęło na poetyckie reprezentacje tłumu. Futuryści przedstawiali masy jako rezerwuar energii na tyle silnej, że zdolnej nie tylko do obalenia dotychczasowego porządku, lecz również do stworzenia zrębów przyszłego ładu. A jednocześnie poszukiwali adekwatnych sposobów ich przedstawienia w popularnych słownikach epoki, sięgając po elementy dyskursu konserwatywnego, komunistycznego oraz militarnego. Spoiwem tych heterogenicznych, nie zawsze zbieżnych wyobrażeń była apoteoza rewolty, pojmowanej jako wyzwanie rzucone nowoczesnemu porządkowi (i kapitalizmowi).
    The article shows how the political engagement of Polish futurism influenced its poetic representations of crowds. Futurists showed masses as a reservoir of energy strong enough not only to destroy the old regime but also to create a framework for the new order. They described the masses by employing elements of different discourses – conservative, communist and military. These heterogenic representations were bound together by the apotheosis of the revolution against the normative order of modernity (and capitalism).

    The article undertakes the problems of novel theory based on artistic solutions proposed by futurists. It analyzes the innovative prose techniques of Nowa Sztuka (New Arts) artists, clashing them with contemporary and current philosophical trends. It shows that the prose of B. Jasieński, A. Wat, A. Stern and other futurists is still an important experience of the literary and literature-scientific self-consciousness.

    The aim of this article is to present the forward-looking project of Polish Futurism, seen as a radical critical movement. It focuses on the concept of the “futurization of life”, one of the main ideas postulated by the Polish Futurists, also referred to as the quasiaccelerationist modernization of the social reality of interwar Poland, which served as a response to the semi-peripheral status of the country. Taking recourse to Jacques Rancière and Immanuel Wallerstein, the article discusses the postulates of the Polish Futurists and the ways in which they wanted to achieve the following goals: to intervene in language in a revolutionary manner, to break free from the bourgeois culture, to democratize art, to emancipate women, to extend the notion of a nation, and to abolish the division of the world into the core and its periphery.

    The article is an attempt to answer the question if are the pictures of the cities presented in the novels: “Palę Paryż” by Bruno Jasieński, “Miasto Światłości” by Mieczysław Smolarski and “Między nocą a brzaskiem” and “Duchy w mieście” by Tadeusz Rittner current. Selected issues from the sociology of the city have been used in this thesis. Relevant examples from the novels along with specific quotes are associated to particular aspects of the urbanization and determinants of the “urban lifestyle”. Attention is directed to the fragments which can be referred to present day to confront them with the latest phenomena and to show if are these novels in some way current or not.

    Interpretacja wiersza Jana Polkowskiego Morze białe analizuje fenomen istnienia współczesnej poezji religijnej niekoniecznie tematycznie zajmującej się Bogiem. Istotą takiej poezji jest wizja świata, z gruntu religijna, zakładająca ufność i zawierzenie bez względu na świecką materię wiersza, który może opisywać najgorsze zbrodnie. Autor ukazuje, że w przypadku najlepszej poezji religijnej zasada anima naturaliter christiana oznacza, że fundamentalna dobroć Boga istnieje w wierszach bezwiednie, właśnie naturalnie, a nie jako coś dodanego czy wykoncypowanego.
    The interpretation of Jan Polkowski’s poem Morze białe [White Sea] analyzes the phenomenon of contemporary religious poetry that does not necessarily thematically deal with God. The essence of such poetry is a vision of the world, fundamentally religious, assuming trust and entrustment regardless of the secular matter of the poem, which can describe the worst of crimes. The author shows that in the case of the best religious poetry, the principle of anima naturaliter christiana implies that the fundamental goodness of God exists in the poems involuntarily, simply naturally, and not as something added or crafted.
