Piston displacement pumps use in common rail fuel injection systems generates very high pressure, reaching even 300 MPa. Maintaining such a high pressure is possible thanks to very precise machining resulting in as little clearance between the piston-cylinder assemblies. Due to very high forces operating in the systems and relatively unfavourable lubrication conditions resulting from using fuel as lubricants, the pumps are subject to wear and consequently lose their operating parameters. The high cost of production of the pumps, resulting from their technological advancement, forced their manufacturers to introduce technologies for diagnosing and regenerating them. The diagnostics consists in removing the pump from the engine and having it verified using a test bed. The first stage consists of evaluating the pump’s flow at null pressure; follow by evaluation of its maximal delivery for the pressure of 100 MPa. The obtained values are compared to the values achieved by a new pump. The effect of negative evaluation on a test bed is the disassembly of the pump, verification of the condition of its parts and replacement of the damaged elements. The authors examined new and used pumps on a tested, aiming to determine the characteristics of delivery of a pump for various pressures. The objective of the research was to identify the actual points in the pump’s operation at which the delivery drops the most due to the wear. The highest difference in delivery was found to exist for the maximal compression pressure. The obtained results were analysed and the possibility of changing the pump diagnostics procedure with the use of a test bed was determined.

Body response is a key element of the periodization of any training unit. The main control systems in the human body are the nervous and endocrine systems. The study aims to examine the effect of bench press at a specified movement tempo on post-exercise blood testosterone and cortisol levels. The study involved 16 men (experience in resistance training 5.5 ± 1.3 years, aged 24 ± 2 years, body weight 86.1 ± 7.2 kg, and 1RM 125 ± 17 kg). The first stage of the test focused on determining the maximum force based on a single bench press with the highest possible external load (1RM). The second stage included the main test, i.e. bench press. The participants were asked to perform 5 sets successively, with an external load of 70% of an individual 1RM and as many repetitions as possible. The tempo of the exercise was precisely specified. The metronome was used to set a bench press tempo. The movement tempo included time under tension (TUT) 2/0/2/0. TUT means the total time of muscle tension during one repetition. The tests showed significant changes in cortisol levels recorded 30 minutes after exercise, amounting to 13.75 (±4.60) at F=9.16 and p=0.006. and 60 minutes after exercise, amounting to 11.37 (±4.17) at F=19.46 and p=0.0002. No significant statistical values were found for testosterone levels. This study brings additional evidence of the importance of hormonal responses in muscle strength training.

The paper presents results of a numerical investigation on load capacity of the mixed bench and slab shallow foundations (often used in the process of the modernization of the old, antique buildings, which are suffering from lack of the load capacity). The main trouble with use of existing analytical approaches is a non-unique foundation level of the bench and slab, they could even be founded on different geotechnical layers. Proposed analytical model based on Brinch Hansen (EC-7) approach could deal with such a problem. Results of 2D and 3D numerical modelling (ultimate load of the foundation) are compared to the obtained by using the proposed approach. Influence of the soil above the foundation level is also investigated. Different width to length ratios of the foundation are analyzed (from "short" to "long" foundations). Usability of the proposed analytical model in engineering practice is proved by numerical simulations; the obtained results are on the safe side with quite acceptable margin of additional safety.

Współczesne silnikowe stanowiska hamownicze stwarzają szerokie możliwości w symulowaniu rzeczywistych warunków pracy badanych silników oraz zapewniają szerokie możliwości pomiarowe z wykorzystaniem bardzo specjalistycznego sprzętu pomiarowego. Dokładność utrzymywania przez hamulec zadanych nastaw regulacyjnych: prędkości obrotowej oraz obciążenia istotnie wpływa na wyniki realizowanych badań doświadczalnych, dla których wymagana jest duża powtarzalność i dokładność pomiarowa. W artykule przedstawiono analizę porównawczą dwóch procedur badawczych: zadawania momentu oraz zadawania przyspieszenia, stosowanych w badaniach silników na stanowisku hamowniczym z punktu widzenia ich wpływu na wskaźniki pracy silnika, zawartość składników spalin i zadymienie. Ponadto omówione zostało stanowisko badawcze, oraz system sterowania hamownią.
Strict requirements of the exhaust emission standards as well as the ongoing drive towards fuel consumption reduction, while improving performance, are the main modern development goals placed on internal combustion engines manufacturers. Addressing this task requires the use of sophisticated research instruments of high accuracy for scientific investigations and development work. Hence, a well chosen engine test bench is also very important. Modern engine test benches create significant opportunities for simulating real working conditions of the engine under investigation, and ensure the extensive measurements capabilities, using highly specialised measuring equipment. The controlling accuracy of engine dynamometer parameters (such as rotational speed and load) influences significantly the results of experimental studies carried out for which high repeatability and accuracy of measurements are required. The paper presents a comparative analysis of two test procedures: torque and acceleration control, both of which are used for engine investigations, in terms of their impact on the indices of engine operation, exhaust emissions and smoke. The engine test bench and the dynamometer control system are also discussed.

Aiming at the problem that the cutting efficiency of a drum shearer is low when mining hard coal seams, an experimental bench of high-pressure water fracturing assisted cutting is designed. Compared with normal ones, the maximum equivalent stress of the improved experimental bench is reduced by 55.38%, and the maximum total deformation is reduced by 27.23%. According to the results of dynamic response analysis, it is concluded that the experimental bench of high-pressure water fracturing assisted cutting is stable and reliable under extreme working conditions, and meets design requirements for strength and stiffness.

In the paper, the concept of a model bench for accelerated ageing of bio-components and biofuels was presented. It is used to simulate the ageing process of biofuels and components of vegetable or animal origin, taking place during storage in the storage tanks. The construction of the bench’s essential elements and its equipment were designed and implemented in such a way as to mostly reflect actual storage conditions in large capacity tanks. An additional and unprecedented function of the bench includes the possibility to simulate the product transport conditions. Furthermore, a method of the test, with the use of simultaneously performed traditional tests on the physical and chemical properties monitored in the process of storage was presented. An analysis of the relation between values of the parameters obtained with different methods (on the model bench and under laboratory conditions) was conducted. In addition, their usefulness to assess the impact of logistic processes on the product quality was presented. In the paper, the results of the work executed within the framework of the project “Development of a prototype of the monitoring system the ageing rate and degree of bio-components and biofuels” within the Program Innovative Economy Operational Programme, Measure 1.4. “Support for goal-oriented projects” were used.

This paper presents a test bench created during development of an IMU-based dataglove. The system allows gathering synchronised hand phantom posture and trajectory, together with inertial sensor data for evaluation of posture recognition algorithms. The setup includes an inertial measurement system, with IMU modules designed to be mounted on human hand or a phantom, together with proper embedded firmware and PC software. The system uses a collaborative Universal Robots UR3 robot arm for generation of trajectories and as a source of ground truth data. The program used to control the robot together with a method of gathered data synchronisation are described. The test bench has been successfully used during development of a joint angles estimating algorithm.

This paper presents the results of comparative research on basic physical and chemical properties of pure diesel fuel and two types’ mixtures of Camelina oil ester (Camelina oil ester content of the mixture was 10% and 15%) and diesel fuel. Application of these mixtures has different physicochemical properties to power supply diesel engine, made it possible to detect existing differences in the injection process (pumping and spraying). The analysis of the injection process has been defined through experimental graphs of the fuel pressure in injection line and registered height of the needle injector. With the knowledge of these two fast-changing engine parameters and loadvelocity conditions, there were calculated: fuel flow speed from nozzle, range and fuel spray disintegration time and the average critical diameter of the droplets. In the final part of the article it was shown, that the fuel with different physicochemical properties has a significant impact on the injection process. There were also made a comparative assessment of the suitability test compounds for use in service.

W pracy przedstawiono projekt mobilnego stanowiska do badań procesu erozji uderzeniowej. Konstrukcja urządzenia pozwala na prowadzenie badań w zamkniętych pomieszczeniach, a niektóre czynności pomiarowe zostały zautomatyzowane. Urządzenie umożliwia ocenę wpływu kąta padania ścierniwa na intensywność zużycia erozyjnego. Parametrami, którymi można sterować, są: kąt padania strugi ścierniwa, odległość dyszy od badanej powierzchni, prędkość ścierniwa, rodzaj ścierniwa. W poniższej pracy została opisana koncepcja i zasada działania stanowiska.
The paper presents a project of a mobile stand for research on the erosion process. The construction of the device makes it possible to conduct tests in closed rooms, and some of the measurement activities have been automated. The device enables the assessment of the influence of the angle of abrasive fall on the intensity of erosion wear. Parameters that can be controlled are: the angle of incidence of the abrasive stream, the distance of the nozzle from the tested surface, the speed of the abrasive, the type of abrasive. In this paper describes the concept and principle of operation of the stand.

A testbench is built to verify a functionality of a shift register IC (Integrated Circuit) from stuck-at-faults, stuck-at-1 as well as stuck-at-0. The testbench is supported by components, i.e., generator, interface, driver, monitor, scoreboard, environment, test, and testbench top. The IC consists of sequential logic circuits of D-type flip-flops. The faults may occur at interconnects between the circuits inside the IC. In order to examine the functionality from the faults, both the testbench and the IC are designed using SystemVerilog and simulated using Questasim simulator. Simulation results show the faults may be detected by the testbench. Moreover, the detected faults may be indicated by error statements in transcript results of the simulator.

In electric multiple units due to the existence of the wheelsets, the brake discs are mounted on wheels of wheelsets. Although the braking of the vehicle is carried out mainly using an electrodynamic brake, depending on the type of braking implemented, a friction brake is additionally used in some braking phases. In the operation of driving wheelsets, the wear of the friction surface of the disc to the limit dimension occurs faster than the wear of the wheel rim. As a consequence, in the case of replacing full discs, it is necessary to squeeze the wheels from the axles of the wheelset, assemble the discs and press the wheels on the axle again. Squeezing and re-pressing the wheel due to the scratching of the axle surface is not possible to be repeated. For this reason, brake disc manufacturers offer split disks that enable their assembly without extrusion of the wheel from the axis of the wheelset. Thus, there is no need to roll the wheelset out of the trolley frame. The article presents the construction of a new segment brake disk after testing on an inertia brake station for testing railway disc and block brakes based on Polish standards [2, 3]. With regard to the disc’s construction itself, a new technology for its implementation has been proposed. Most brake discs are produced by casting and finishing machining. In the case of the proposed brake disc, the prototype of the disc was made by welding the venting elements with the disc’s friction plate. The proposed brake disc was created during the implementation of the LIDER V project financed from the National Center for Research and Development in Warsaw.

The article discusses the participation of Italians in the town council and the judicial bench being local government authorities of the city of Cracow in the early modern period. As many as seventy-four Italians (this standing for 14 per cent of all the councillors and 8 per cent assessors or lay judges) are identifiable for the period in question; nineteen of them concluded their careers with the office of assessors, never getting ranked to councillor. While most of them were merchants by profession, as many as five councillors held a doctor’s degree. Italians were the most influential ethnic group in the council in the latter half of the seventeenth century and in the former half of the eighteenth, when in certain years the council-in-office, elected annually and consisting of eight members, featured as many as four Italians at the same time. Similarly, a considerable share of Italians in the judicial bench (almost 50 per cent) is observed for the first half of the eighteenth century; the detailed statistics is featured in the tables appended. Over 20 per cent of the families that accepted the municipal law in the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries obtained at least one of these offices. The share of Italians in Cracow’s local-government administration at that time, incommensurate with the actual size of local Italian population, is explainable by their larger interest in pursuing municipal career opportunities. In the medieval period, and even under the reign of Queen Bona Sforza, a number of Italians demonstrated different economic strategies. They satisfied themselves with the royal privilege of servitoriate, counted on fast moneymaking and expected to return home sooner or later. In the later years, most of the Cracow-based Italians were well assimilated and preferred to settle down in the city.

The paper concerns the prototype of a propeller engine test bench stand designed for durability tests of airplane piston engines of 150-250 kW power range (Ostapski, 2011b, 2008). The technical data of the prototype engines to be tested on the bench have been adopted. It is obvious that at the beginning of the design process there is no information about the vibration spectrum of the propeller shaft, which is at the production process at that time. The basic 3D model of test bench constructional variants are presented in the article. Modes and frequencies of free vibrations are defined in ANSYS environment for both the loaded and unloaded structure and for various design variants. The estimated vibration frequency range for the propeller shaft varies from ƒ = 22 to ƒ = 360 Hz. In such a case, there is no easy way for rational test bench construction to be completely “untuned” to the vibration forcing load. This is the reason for introducing the basic model and few its modifications. After first engine tests, it should be possible to separate natural vibrations of the bench and high amplitude vibrations of the engine.

The methodology of measuring the vibration signal recorded on the casing of wheeled armoured vehicle ROSOMAK driving axis is presented. The study was performed on a test bench for different transmission conditions. A preliminary analysis of the frequency spectra vibration signals recorded. The test stand allows investigation of the differential axle gears under load similar to load during duty operation. It was possible by using the combustion engine and gearboxes and load transmission by using the dynamometer break. Have been described. Three methods of attaching acceleration sensors to differential gears: using screws, magnetic washers and probe handle. The results of comparisons of measurement results obtained using these methods. Finally, the sensors was mount by using the screw connections. Selected positions and points of temperature and vibration measures were described. Values of characteristic frequencies of differential axle gears vibration by moving the drive torque through these boxes were calculated. The spectra of the vibration signal determined during testing gearboxes were shown. It was state that of amplitude-frequency vibration spectra of signals recorded at selected points of differential axle gears casing are clearly visible characteristic frequencies but the vibration the bridge gear unit bridges distorted by vibration of the internal combustion engine and gearboxes. In a further stage of research should be included much larger number of the driving axis differentials investigated in various states of well-known technical conditions and should be lead accord to requirements of the active diagnostic experiment.
