    Opis:
    Marguerite Duras focuses on a rejected individual on the margins of society. Her literary characters oppose being perceived as devoid of autonomy, contesting the fixed model of a submissive and passive woman. On the contrary, they reject the social order and the traditional system of values, claiming the right to freedom and thus demonstrating transgressive female behaviour. Duras’ heroine, a mysterious, crazy person who is looking for love and is aware of her otherness and alienation, appears as a kind of femme fatale or a witch. This image of a “different woman – a disturbing, unhappy, lost, borderline person experiencing a specific crisis – is best illustrated by a beggar. She identifies, par excellence, with the wandering to the lands of perdition and its various readings. Her journey is, at the same time, a sign of dereliction, an attempt at liberation and a quest for identity.

    In the works of anthropologists, ethnologists and sociologists of the 19th and 20th centuries, we may notice their efforts to distinguish magic, on the one hand, from religion, and on the other, from science. One of the criteria, which set the boundaries between these field was the way, in which a community understood god/divinity. This, among others, enabled the identification of the three ‘ideal stages’ in the development of human culture: magical, religious and metaphysical-philosophical. This article is an attempt to analyse to what extent modern definitions of religion and magic can be applied in regard of ancient Greek culture. The surviving literary sources and other artefacts, which provide us with information on this culture, suggest that these stages, distinguished by modern researchers, never seemed to exist in ‘pure form’ in ancient Greek culture, but rather they intermingled and, at times barely noticeably, switched from one stage to another. Religion, magic and science not only functioned side-by-side, but they permeated and complemented each other.

    Wydaje się, że Bolesław Leśmian mógł antycypować współczesną krytyczną refleksję nad niepełnosprawnością (disability studies). Za Tymoteuszem Karpowiczem poezję autora Ballady dziadowskiej odczytywać można między innymi jako obronę bycia tym, czym się jest, a niekoniecznie tym, czym by się chciało być. Teza ta jest punktem wyjścia do tego, by raz jeszcze bliżej przyjrzeć się niektórym Leśmianowskim postaciom, a także proponowanej przez poetę koncepcji wspólnoty – wspólnoty naznaczonej niedoskonałościami. Za Leśmianem, interesuje mnie ułomność jako istotna część życia manifestującego się w formach kruchych i obarczonych wadami. A w tym kontekście także – eksplorowane przez poetę pogranicze śmieszności i tragizmu. W artykule omawiane są przede wszystkim dwie parodie: Leśmianowska Ballada dziadowska (dialogująca ze Świtezianką Adama Mickiewicza) i Lipa Artura Marii Swinarskiego, nawiązująca do wspomnianej ballady Leśmiana, ale i głównych wątków jego twórczości.
    It seems that Bolesław Leśmian could anticipate the contemporary critical reflection on disability (disability studies). According to Tymoteusz Karpowicz, the poetry of the author of The Beggar’s Ballad [Ballada dziadowska] can be read, among other things, as a defence of being what you are and not necessarily what you want to be. This thesis is intended to serve as a starting point to look more closely at some of Leśmian’s characters as well as his concept of the community, which was marked by imperfections. Following Leśmian, I am interested in the infirmity as an essential part of life manifested in fragile and frail forms. In this context, I also describe the borderline of ridiculousness and tragedy explored by the poet. This article draws primarily on two parodies: The Beggar’s Ballad [Ballada dziadowska] by Bolesław Leśmian (entering into dialogue with The Water Nymph of Świteź [Świtezianka] by Adam Mickiewicz) and The Linden Tree [Lipa] by Artur Maria Swinarski, referring to the mentioned Leśmian’s ballad, but also to the main themes of his work.

    The paper is dedicated to two soldiers’ songs from the second half of 1917, written in the atmosphere of rebellion of the Polish Legions against the Central Powers. The turning point in the history of Polish military units during the First World War, which was caused by the so-called Oath crisis, for the demilitarised and interned soldiers, was the time of fighting by means of word, rather than weapon. However, they manifested their pride and perseverance of the Polish soldier, using mockery. Occasional poetic works – Dziadowska pieśń żałobna o odwrocie legionów spod Warszawy and Santa Lucia – shaped the independence ethos on the basis of a solid foundation of folklore and literary tradition (using e.g. the convention of ‘a beggar’s song’ and ‘a news story’). Arrogance and an ironic attitude, expressed in songs, conceal the real tragic situation of the soldiers – who were deprived of the chance to serve the Nation for being disobedient towards the German army. Szczypiorno and Beniaminów – places to which they were interned – are elevated to the rank of symbols of defiance and contempt for the invaders and constitute a significant element of the legend surrounding Piłsudski’s Legions.

    Artykuł ma na celu przedstawienie ludowej recepcji nowotestamentalnej przypowieści o Dobrym Pasterzu w przekazach pieśni Chrześcijanie katolicy proszę posłuchajcie. Należy ona do gatunku pieśni dziadowskich i w zebranym materiale empirycznym reprezentowana jest przez 55 nagrań pochodzących z 13 regionów Polski. Badania ukazały wyjątkowo wysoki stopień wariabilności warstwy muzycznej oraz wariantywność tekstu tej pieśni. Niewątpliwie decyduje o tym jej genetycznie ludowe pochodzenie. Dzięki temu pieśń ta funkcjonuje w 11 różnych wersjach melodycznych oraz licznych wariantach melodycznych, rytmicznych, formalnych, agogicznych i międzystroficznych, które również wykazują regionalne, subregionalne czy lokalne uwarunkowania.
    The article aims to show the folk reception of the New Testament parable about the Good Shepherd in the religious song Chrześcijanie katolicy proszę posłuchajcie (Christian Catholics please listen). It belongs to the genre of beggar’s songs and is represented in the collected empirical material by 55 recordings from 13 Polish regions. The research proved an exceptionally high degree of variability of the musical layer and variants of the lyrics of this song. Undoubtedly, it is determined by its genetically folk origin. Thanks to this, the song functions in 11 different melodic versions as well as numerous melodic, rhythmic, formal, agogic and interstrophic variants which also show regional, subregional or local determinants.

    In the late Middle Ages, it was an accepted belief that the end of the world would be announced by fifteen cosmic signs. Similar motifs can be found in relatively numerous beggar’s songs from the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. Their sources can be located in medieval Latin hymns, Apocrypha, and Old Polish literature. These inspirations include the Bible, Apocrypha, De Civitate Dei of St. Augustine, Crisias of Verecundus da Iunca, The Golden Legend written by Jacobus de Voragine, Przeraźliwe echo trąby ostatecznej (The Terrifying Echo of the Doomsday Trumpet) by Klemens Bolesławiusz and others. This article is an attempt to prove that authors of beggar’s songs establish a dialogue with the tradition and introduce their own motifs, which are characteristic of the times in which they lived.
    Artykuł jest filologicznym, źródłowym studium trzech pieśni dziadowskich o końcu świata. W eksplikacji zwrócono uwagę na intertekstualność utworów, które sięgają w warstwie inwencji i obrazowania poetyckiego do tradycji biblijnej i apokryficznej. Rozważania zostały także skoncentrowane wokół funkcji przekazu.
