Opis:
In the face of contemporary educational transformations, this contribution aims to analyze the educational role that can still be played by the adult educator. Without restoring old categories of the past, today's adults continue to have a responsibility in the growth of younger generations. Accepting this task means first of all critically and reflectively recognizing one's role and, secondly, accepting the challenges posed by the complexity of today's landscape in terms of credibility and consistency.

Opis:
In 1946, Dr Stefania Mazurek elaborated a project of organizing a school in Opole designed for adults who had attended German schools before and did not know the Polish language to a sufficient degree. The didactic work at the junior high and senior high schools in Opole (popularly called re-polonizing comprehensive grammar school) was run along two parallel lines. One, which fulfilled tasks of compensatory character consisted in courses mastering the knowledge of the Polish language, which were organized before the noon, while teaching proper, that is education run in compliance with the ministerial guidelines was going on in the afternoon. There were 700 people who came from Opole Region that applied for a place in the school. Part of the graduates pursued their education in Polish universities. The mission of the institution, apart from providing regular education was to integrate Silesian students with the Polish environment. The situation in 1950 caused the school to be closed and its management to be dismissed. The specific character of the region was not taken into account as regards continuing the re-polonizing project.

Nowadays, the digital competence is becoming as important as literacy and numeracy skills. For children and youths these competences seem to be natural and the role of teacher is to direct students in their learning and to develop cognitive curiosity. For adults, the learning process is different. It is not only developing of digital skills but sometimes even grassroots teaching. The article presents a two different approaches to teaching/learning process provided in the field of secondary education - Finnish and Polish systems. Documents containing curricula, school programmes and course grids were analysed. Both systems have been assessed in terms of their relevance to adult learners. The main discoveries and the key conclusions indicate that the Polish system does not adapt to the real needs of adult learners and the changing needs of the labour market.

Opis:
The paper presents reflections rising from a study on adult learning professions in Poland. Changes in the socio-political and legal context created phenomena that have occurred in the adult education systems, mechanisms and approaches. The article focuses on the impact of those processes on a specific professional group – adult educators. Because of the increasing importance of life long learning and the promising vision of a knowledge society, new initiatives in education open challenging possibilities for human development.Based on interviews with practitioners the article describes the professional situation of adult educators: training, development, awareness, values, priorities and practice. There  is a new trend noticeable in these interviews – the emergence of a new kind of educator. The specific working style of this new group (operating like a closed caste) with a specific language and communication style, value system, ethics and critical skills resulted in the creation of the new culture of life long learning. The culture of adult educators has developed skills of survival in fragmented reality of Polish educational policy, a chaotic legal frame and the strong pressure of labour market.

The purpose of this study was to investigate adult learners’ perceptions of the use of Interactive Whiteboards (IWBs) in a university classroom in Taiwan. The participants were undergraduate students in a Master’s program. Research data were obtained through students’ interviews, site observations, and students’ reflective journals on the course website. Interviews were conducted with six adult learners who were also working professionals. The research data indicate that adult learners valued the benefits of using IWBs in instruction and workplace learning and pointed out that instructors’ readiness and competence determine the effectiveness of IWB integration in classrooms. Another important finding revealed in this study suggested that instructors need to develop creative IWB lesson plans that fully utilize the advantages of IWBs in order to ensure that IWBs are effectively and continually used in adult education/training settings.

RESEARCH INTO ADULT EDUCATION
Opis:
Nowadays there is a kind of “savage development” of adult education interpreted as anarchist heerogenic structure (Deleuze/Guattari 1977). Others call this process new capitalism characterized by project-based approach, flexibility and uncertainty. Hartz and Schrader (2008) write about uplanned change of structure and deficit in steering. But adult people search for security and trust. Research into programmes and institutions may provide new, but also temporary, knowledge. Nevetheless questioning: who, why, what and how offers and who and why responds to that offer is still valid, because searching for structures of lifelong learning is just beginning. Public opinion should be informed, from political-educational point of view, not only about who is participating in adult education but also what institutions, what programmes and what portals of knowledge are offered. Research –collecting information about and evaluating offered programmes – may give partial rsponse to the above mentioned questions. Those research provide order in changes, name it and point to paradoxes.

Opis:
The article Extra-educational Bestiary? Transformation of Animal Paradise Motif in Polish Young Adult Fantastic Literature is an attempt to define a new argument for a possibility of animal immortality on the basis of fantasy literature for children and young adults. For this purpose, Ewelina Rąbkowska analyzes three examples of the theme of animal paradise in Polish animal fantasy novels for children and young adults. The main hypothesis of the article is that intuition of fantasy literature tells—in the same way as (defined in some previous papers) “poetical intuition”—stories about significant relationships between humans and non-humans, which last longer than single life. The author argues that contemporary fantasies for young adults are examples of crossing the borders of a traditional anthropocentric point of view. They show a new, post-humanist discourse about animals, change the language, narrative strategies and—what is most important—traditional didactic purposes of the text.

The article concerns the adverse consequences of adult learning, problems accompanying that process and burdens resulting from it. The authors carried out research, which aim was to give the answers to the following questions: Do the adult learners perceive their cognitive activity as a reason for neglecting the other areas of their lives? What are their opinions on the consequences of such activity for personal and professional life? What problems are linked to adults' participation in organized (non-formal) education? The sample of 189 educationally active adults being surveyed was recruited from the participants of: postgraduate studies, instruction and methodical workshops and a training course. The outcomes of the poll show that only one quarter of respondents declared the lack of any problems resulting from their educational involvement. The vast majority of the group admitted facing various types of negative consequences of such activity. Problems arising due to their learning may affect many spheres of peoples' lives: their family life and social relationships, their leisure time and health condition as well as their private budgets.

Opis:
The purpose of the article is to show the educational needs and expectations of adult students towards their foreign language teacher. The paper presents the main aspects associated with the process of teaching English to Polish and Romanian adults who are being prepared for their final exams (in Poland - matura, in Romania - Examen de bacalaureat). In considerations related to adult education, it is necessary to pay attention to recent changes in the job market in both Poland and Romania. Nowadays it is important to speak at least one foreign language, with employers requiring an understanding of both general and specific job-related language. This is the main reason for increasing numbers of adults starting to learn foreign languages. It might also be noted that foreign language acquisition is one part of the process of lifelong learning. For a teacher planning classes for adults, the considerations must also involve the differences between teaching children and adults, and the primary aspects that should be included in the planning process. The methodological part of the article includes data analyses of a survey involving a group of young adults preparing for the English final exam at a high school for adults in Warsaw and at a high school in Bucharest. The conclusions present considerations related to the educational needs of the young adult students who participated in the study.

The article The new world of the old fairy-tale. “Ensel und Krete” of Walter Moers focuses on the novel Ensel und Krete of Walter Moers, which comes into various intertextual interactions not only with the Grimms’ fairy tale but also with fairy tale as a genre. The usage of traditional fairy-tale schemes allows Walter Moers to create an original version or a variation on the theme of Hansel and Gretel and to create a fantastic world. In this world the known, traditional, fairy precepts are challenged. In addition, the story of Ensel and Krete turns out to be an excuse to reflect on the genre, literature, and, moreover, literary culture in a broad sense. The article focuses on selected issues connected with the presence of a fairy tale in a fantastic text and is an attempt to explain the interplay of these two orders.
