Opis:
The Turks in the Slovene historical novelDue to the Ottoman incursions in the 15th and 16th Century Turks play a role of national enemy in the Slovene cultural memory. The Turkish story consists of about 40 narratives of substantial length and is a prominent genre type of the Slovene historical novel. Josip Jurčič’s Jurij Kozjak, slovenski janičar (1864) is an archetype. Among three possible models of confronting the Other it chooses the most popular strategy for national survival, i. e. ignoring the Other: sooner or later dangerous Turks prove themselve as disguised Slovenes, hence abolishing the need to face the Other. The authors of the Slovene Turkish story include Jakob Sket (Miklova Zala, 1884), Franc Valentin Slemenik, Miroslav Malovrh, Lea Fatur, France Bevk, Ivan Lah, Ivan Sivec, etc.  Turcy w słoweńskiej prozie historycznej W kulturowej pamięci Słoweńców Turcy jako najeźdźcy ziem słoweńskich w XV i XVI wieku zajmują miejsce wrogów narodu. Opowiadania o tematyce tureckiej pisali m.in. Jakob Sket (Miklova Zala, 1884), Franc Valentin Slemenik, Miroslav Malovrh, Lea Fatur, France Bevk, Ivan Lah, Ivan Sivec.

The numerals in question are used to number the pages of a medieval Latin manuscript. These are cardinal numerals, transcribed as follows: edno, četiry, pęt, šest, sedem, osem, devęt, desęt. In addition, two ordinal numerals, drugi and tretiji, also appear there. The words analysed here are undoubtedly Slavic numerals, but it is not possible to assign them with certainty to a specific Slavic language. The most probable theory of their origin links them to the Slovenian dialectal area in Carinthia (mostly due to attested continuation of Proto‑Slavic *ę, the eno < edno numeral and the phonetic spelling of the ordinal numeral as tretji), although a Polish linguistic substrate cannot be definitely ruled out due to attested nasal vowels.

Opis:
The first map of Slovenia was published only in 1861; it was the work of Peter Kozler, Slovenian lawyer and self-taught cartographer. If we analyze it in context of contemporary cartography, its novelty appears clearly. Kozler’s map was based on the principle of ethnicity, and not on a historical and juridical tradition of the Habsburg lands as it was the usage. The border of Slovenian territory crossed historical provinces. The map is presented in the paper as a visual realization of the principles of United Slovenia (Zedinjena Slovenija), first Slovenian political movement in 1848, which claimed unity and autonomy of the Slovenian nation. The performative and constructivist character of the document is strengthened, as far as it didn’t describe an existing state of matters, but was rather postulating a non-existing yet political entity of Slovenes. Thus, the form and function of the map, on the example of Kozler’s one, seem support a political idea of Slovenian national emancipation.

Opis:
Kinematografia słoweńska przeżywała w owym czasie odrodzenie na płaszczyźnie instytucjonalnej: w Lublanie działała Kinoteka, wychodził magazyn filmowy „Ekran”, został otwarty Wydział Reżyserii Filmowej i Telewizyjnej, powstało Słoweńskie Archiwum Filmowe.
Slovenian cinematography developed clearly after 1945, when the socialist state began building structures of the new Yugoslav cinematography, and the Central Committee of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia decided about everything that concerned the film world. In the 1950s and 1960s, under the wings of the Triglav Film studio, many films were made that were successful and are today considered classics of the Slovenian film. Slovenian cinematography at that time experienced a renaissance on the institutional level: in Ljubljana a film library operated, the film magazine “Ekran” [“Screen”] was published, the Film and Television Directing Department was opened, the Slovenian Film Archive was established. In the 1970s, the films were showing social criticism and the problems of the individual on the brink of collapse. The 1980s was a difficult period characterised by an economic and political crisis; video cassettes that competed with Hollywood films and TV shows also appeared. Nevertheless, the first “independent” film created outside of the main production structures was created, a breakthrough point in the liberalization of Slovenian cinematography. After regaining the independence, the Republic of Slovenia assumes responsibility for subsidizing film production, which is largely created by a new generation of directors focused on the problems of the present and the transformation period.

Opis:
Anton Tomaž Linhart (1756–1795), is a critical intellectual and scholar of the age of Slovenian Enlightenment, who introduced causal interpretation of history into Slovenian historiography and started its scientifical philosophy by his historical work Versuch einer Geschichte von Krain und den übrigen Ländern der südlichen Slaven Österreichs (1778, 1791). He was an open-minded man, at first deist under the influence of English philosophers, and afterward agnostic under the influence of French materialists and atheists, a man torn between his work as a scholar and a reformer and between the German and the Slovenian language. Linhart’s first works were written in German. Miss Jenny Love (1780) is an attempt of a tragedy, written according to the rules of the Enlightenment period tragedy, exhibiting the contrast between the corrupted nobility and the middle class. The collection of poems Blumen aus Krain für das Jahr 1781 is Linhart’s attempt of contemporary classicist poetry in the rococo fashion and after the manner of the Anacreontic and even Pre-Romantic poetry. Linhart wrote his first Slovenian-language drama Županova Micka (1789), while his second Slovenian drama called Ta veseli dan ali Matiček se ženi (1790) is the most important literary work of the Slovenian Enlightenment and the most wide-ranging echo of the French revolution in the Slovenian literary production of the 18th century. Linhart’s dramas Županova Micka and Matiček are a manifesto of Slovenehood and democracy expressed in dramatic form, and a declaration of support to the Slovenian people and their struggle against feudalism.

Slovenian authors who contribute to the feminist and later lesbian discourse are often also the poets and writers. As far as the feminist and lesbian theory tradition is concerned, the connection to western theories is present. Slovenian women writers and their female characters think about the options of a female subject position, they reflect their own dilemmas and issues in the creative process. While the character of a heterosexual feminist is still marginal in modern Slovenian literature, the character of a lesbian realizing the demands of radical feminism has become a self-evident part of the Slovenian literary production with the works of Suzana Tratnik and Nataša Sukič.

Opis:
In this paper, we will present a study into the dynamics of the transmission of emotional traumatic in three families of victims of World War II and post-war communist oppression. This study is taken from a broader research project in which we investigated the experiences of nonclinical families that managed to survive through three generation, and in which post-traumatic growth is present, i. e. the ability to integrate traumatic experiences and provide greater security for future generations. The main focus will be on how emotional content is transmitted and transformed through generations and how to recognise it in various forms of behaviour, thinking and emotions, that appear in each of the generations. As we follow the transformation of traumatic content, we will also follow the the signs that show how traumatic content has integrated and begun to bring new, deeper emotional and mental insights. The emotional depth of the traumatic experience is what burdens the victim the most and slows down the dynamics of trauma processing. It appears in the form of symptoms of post-traumatic stress syndrome, insecurity and mistrust. This is found even in victims who have articulated the trauma sufficiently to rise above intimidation, managed to develop emotionally strong and connecting interpersonal relationships, maintain faith in the future, and form a coherent narrative of their traumatic past. The most interesting result of the research was that all three families, regardless of their diversity, are similar in term of processing the trauma. They were all able to speak openly about their traumatic experiences. In all three families there there was a great deal of discussion and searching for the social framework and personal truth of historical events, and the desire to present and describe the events that left such deep wounds in such a way that they would be clear, reworked and accessible to future generations as a document of the reality of some tragic and difficult times. Another source of trauma processing was religious faith, which allowed all the participants in this study to look at trauma and life more deeply, through relationships and connections between people and through a deeper understanding of human history embedded in a broader and deeper spiritual flow. Faith helped these families to find the courage to make decisions, to face life’s challenges, and to endure even the most severe of life's trials. A third source that facilitates the processing and integration of a traumatic experience is secure interpersonal relationships and compassionate parenting. Despite the fact that the whole question of parenting was demanding and full of challenges for our interviewees, the quality of parenting has been improved from generation to generation, and sincere affection for children and gratitude for children were present everywhere. The ability to follow the new generation and its initiatives while maintaining a connection to its roots is a dynamic that characterises all three families. There is also a lot of thinking and conscious effort in establishing and maintaining good marital relationships in these families. For the recovery from trauma this study shows the importance of talking about it and also talking about it in a safe relationship until it takes a form that is genuine and at the same time clear, coherent and thus suitable for the general public. That’s when the traumatic story ceases to be traumatizing and becomes a story of courage, perseverance, and truth.

The article discusses the translation of Polish children’s and young adult literature into Slovenian from the beginning to the present day. The first part includes a statistical overview of all Slovenian translations of Polish works for children and young adults published in book form between 1912 and 2020. The overview provides information on the dynamics of translations, the most translated authors and works, and the most prominent translators. The second part focuses on the young adult bestseller W pustyni i w puszczy [In Desert and Wilderness] by Henryk Sienkiewicz, which is the most popular Polish work for young readers in Slovenia. The discussion of the Polish original is followed by a translatological analysis of the Slovenian editions and a presentation of their reception. Both parts of the article deal with a topic that has not been studied in detail so far and fill an important gap in the research on Slovenian-Polish contacts.

Celem artykułu recenzyjnego jest krytyczna analiza i ocena monografii naukowej autorstwa Marii Wacławek i Marii Wtorkowskiej pt.: O Polakach i Słoweńcach – w kręgu językowo-kulturowych stereotypów, wydanej w Słowenii w 2022 roku.
The aim of the review article is to critically analyze and evaluate the scientific monograph by Maria Wacławek and Maria Wtorkowska entitled: About Poles and Slovenes – in the circle of linguistic and cultural stereotypes, published in Slovenia in 2022. In the evaluation of the work, theoretical foundations, the scope and accuracy of the selection of literature on the subject and its topicality, functionality of research tools within the applied methodology, material basis and research reliability were taken into account. An element of the evaluation was also the structure of the work, division into chapters, insight into the topics taken, and the consistency of synthetic summaries. Taking into account the above criteria, it should be stated that the monograph fills a research gap on the map of national stereotypes and builds a significant cultural context for teaching Polish and Slovenian as foreign languages. Apart from the didactic value, the book is an example of linguistic work based on rich material and reliable methodological workshop.

The incorrect forms have been analysed in the article and the reason for their occurance described. Special attention was paid to mistakes that can result from the influence of the Slovenian language. The analysed material was gathered by the author of the article herself and it comes from the written works of the Polish language students from Ljubljana. The analyses aim to explain the reasons for the errors. This should result in reflection on the effective methods of teaching that could prevent the occurance of such errors.

The article addresses how Slovenians in Argentina ritualise memories of the socialist Yugoslavia. The Slovenian diaspora in Argentina was established by post-war refugees, who inextricably related the perception of Yugoslavia with memories of the Second World War, the communist revolution and, in particular, the post-war exile and extrajudicial mass executions. The article specifically analyses commemorations of the victims of communist violence as the central anti-Yugoslavian political ritual and argues that imageries of communism, Yugoslavia and the anticommunist struggle, all carefully ritualized in ceremonies and commemorations, not only reinforced the social memories of exile, but also catalysed the social organization of the diaspora, its political ideology, and the framework of its attitudes towards the homeland and the past.

The article deals with the representation of Italian pronunciation in five contemporary dictionaries for young Slovenian learners. As the use of a dictionary not only stimulates the development of lexical competence, but can also serve as a useful means for pronunciation learning, the article investigates five categories representing phonetic-phonological features in a dictionary: introduction to phonetics/phonology (e.g. a pronunciation guide), phonetic transcription, phonemes, consonant length and accent. The representation of these features in a dictionary for young learners should be clear and coherent, and in some cases a dictionary (especially a dictionary intended for the youngest users) should also featureaudio pronunciations. The five dictionaries analysed are fragmentary with regard to the pronunciation: only one dictionary includes audio recordings (although the relation between the spelling and the pronunciation remains unclear, as it does not include a pronunciation guide); two dictionaries include deficient phonological transcriptions and incomplete pronunciation guides; one dictionary contains only the Italian alphabet with corresponding phonemes, while another dictionary is without any elements that could familiarize a Slovenian learner with Italian pronunciation.

Opis:
This text discusses the formation of Slovenian local elites in Trieste in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. A significant part of the analysis presented here concerns the habitus of the elite and the attitudes expressed through the significance they attached to being members of the elite. Drawing on the discourses presented in the Slovenian and Croatian press published in Trieste, as well as biographical sources, this article outlines the vision of society held by the political leaders of the local community. It emphasises how the elites gave expression to their habitus in the public sphere through a variety of institutional activities. I argue that the life of the Slovenian politician and social activist Ivan Nabergoj, a figure central to this text, constitutes an ideal-type committed biography. In conclusion, I address the relationship between the elites and the surrounding community, arguing that elites were representatives of the community while also determining the forms of group belonging by their shaping of mechanisms of consolidation. In this article, I also consider the particularities of the political conditions of Slovenians living in the Slavic-Italian borderlands.
