We now demonstrate that such "uniaxial" particles can allow several quantifiable stable (or metastable) orientations of the magnetic moment within the same particle. A new model is presented with quantitative predictions verified by experiments. The results have important implications for rock magnetism, palaeomagnetism, and magnetic materials research. Firstly, the new model quantitatively accounts for several previously unexplained diverse phenomena exhibited by such single-domain (SD) particles. Including the acquisition of gyroremanences, tiled-impressed anisotropy, and transverse components of reminisce in individual particles. These phenomena are theoretically impossible in idealized uniaxial single domain particles, and could now be used to quantify the deviation of real particles from ideal behavior. Secondly, deflections of the natural remanence vector and computations of the ancient field vector and paleointensity are not only controlled by the shape and distribution of the particles, but also by the possible stable orientations of the moments within single-domain particles. The model is also relevant to other single-domain particle morphologies.

This paper is the review of our study published in J Appl Phys 115, 233509 (2014) and J Mater Sci 53, 2034 (2018). In it, we examined the possibility of fabricating the metamaterial, which is both gyrotropic and of the simultaneously negative permittivity and permeability. Our idea was to use the three-component mixture of ingredients, where one of them is responsible for the negative effective permeability µeff of hypothetical metamaterial, while all three are responsible for the negative value of effective permittivity εeff. At first we considered the following composite: the first component was the “swarm” of single-domain ferromagnetic nanoparticles, immersed in a mixture of other two, silver and mercury cadmium telluride. Then, as fabrication of the Hg1-x Cdx Te is related to using mercury which is very poisoning, we tried to exclude this material substituting it by Pb1-x Snx Te. Additionally, taking into account that silver is relatively expensive material, we have also used Cu and Al particles as the cheaper substitute of it. We have shown by computer simulations that by the proper fitting of the parameters, e.g., the radius of nanoparticles, their magnetic moments, the relative concentration of ingredients, etc., it is possible to obtain the double-negative metamaterial, that is with negative refraction index in a relatively broad range of temperatures and magnetic fields. The last seems to be very promising in terms of practical applications of metamaterials.
Praca stanowi przegląd prac autorów, opublikowanych wcześniej (J Appl Phys 115, 233509 (2014) oraz J Mater Sci 53, 2034 (2018)). W w/w pracach autorzy zbadali możliwość utworzenia metamateriału, który byłby jednocześnie giroskopowy oraz posiadał ujemne części rzeczywiste przenikalności magnetycznej i dielektrycznej. Ideą jest wykorzystanie w tym celu mieszanki trzech składników, z których pierwszy - to "rój" ferromagnetycznych nanocząstek.

This paper presents an analysis of low-frequency liquid vibrations in rigid partially filled containers with baffles. The liquid is supposed to be an ideal and incompressible one and its flow is irrotational. A compound shell of revolution is considered as the container model. For evaluating the velocity potential the system of singular boundary integral equations has been obtained. The single-domain and multi-domain reduced boundary element methods have been used for its numerical solution. The numerical simulation is performed to validate the proposed method and to estimate the sloshing frequencies and modes of fluid-filled cylindrical shells with baffles in the forms of circular plates and truncated cones. Both axisymmetric and non-axisymmetric modes of liquid vibrations in baffled and un-baffled tanks have been considered. The proposed method makes it possible to determine a suitable place with a proper height for installing baffles in tanks by using the numerical experiment.

It has turned out that all voting rules fail on some intuitively plausible desiderata. This has led some political scientists to argue that the notion of the will of the people is profoundly ambiguous and the absence of voting equilibria a generic state of affairs. As a constructive remedy to this some authors have introduced the idea of deliberative democracy. This view of democracy has much to recommend itself, most importantly the emphasis on individuals in devising the decision alternatives. Some empirical evidence also suggests that the deliberative institutions provide an escape from some of the most notorious incompatibility results in social choice theory. We shall critically examine this suggestion. The view emerging from this examination is that social choice theory and deliberative democracy are complementary, not competing approaches to democratic decision making.

Introduction and aim. Single nucleotide variants (SNV) of the patatin‐like phospholipase domain‐containing protein 3 (PNP-LA3) gene play an important role in hepatic lipid remodeling and lipogenesis de novo, which is associated with the development of metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO) and metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). The aim of the study was to define the contribution of SNV PNPLA3 gene to the development of MUO, complicated by MAFLD in children. Material and methods. 200 obese children aged 6-18 years were examined. The main group (n=118) was represented by children with MUO. The control group (n=82) consolidated of children with metabolically healthy obesity (MHO). Whole genome sequencing (CeGat) was performed in 31 children of the main and 21 children of the control group. Results. Among obese children, 14 variants of SNV PNPLA3 (rs139051, rs34179073, rs2294918, rs139047, rs779127153, rs2076212, rs738409, rs738408, rs4823173, rs2072906, rs2076213, rs141106484, rs138736228) were identified, including SNV PNPLA3 g.44322818, not described in the dbSNP core database. The role of the following SNV PNPLA3 genotypes in the development of MUO complicated by MAFLD was revealed: rs738409 C/G (Relative risk (RR)=1.71); rs738408 C/T (RR=1.71); rs4823173 G/A (RR=1.57); rs2072906 A/G (RR=1.57) with Sensitivity (Se)=0.63 and Specificity (Sp)=0.72. Conclusion. The contribution to the development of MUO complicated by MAFLD in children is made by the linked association of genotypes: rs738409 C/G, rs738408 C/T, rs4823173 G/A and rs2072906 A/G out of 14 PNPLA3 SNVs diagnosed by us.

Opis:
A pocket-size binaural speech segregation system has been developed and assembled with available consumer hardware. It can enhance a target speech in a certain direction while attenuating interfering sounds from other directions. This system is based on the frequency domain binaural model (FDBM) and it segregates multiple speeches based on the directivity. This real-time system is implemented on a low-cost single board computer which might be used as a hearing assistance device. Performance of the system is evaluated in a normal laboratory room as well as anechoic chamber. Even in a room with reverberation, the system works well and show the almost same performance obtained in anechoic chamber.

A rapid design and verification of sigma delta modulators are presented at the systemlevel with high accuracy and computational efficiency. Sigma delta analog to digital converters showcased an excellent choice for low bandwidth applications from near DC tohigh bandwidth standard 5G applications. The conceptualization of the graphical userinterface (GUI) in the efficient selection of integrator weights has been proposed, whichsolves various tradeoffs between various abstraction levels. The sigma delta modulator of the 5th order is designed and simulated using the proposed design methodology of calculating integrator weights for targeted specifications. The efficiency of design explorationand optimum selection of integrator coefficients has been investigated on single loop architectures. Power and performance of the selected modulator has been verified in the timedomain behavioral simulation. The discrete time circuit technique has been adopted fordesign of distributed feedback, feed forward architectures and comparison of performancemetrics done between selected architectures. A huge design space is computed for the bestdesign parameters that offers ultra-low power and high performance. The proposed virtual instruments supported the methodology for designing delta sigma modulators at thesystem level achieving SNDR of 122 dB over a bandwidth of 5 kHz at a clock frequencyof 1 MHz.
