    RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of article is to analyse the professional situation of technical university graduates in Poland, focusing on the gender as the key impact factor. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research problem was to examine the influence of gender on the employee’s professional situation among technical university graduates in Poland. Empirical data was gained as a result of six annual quantitative research projects, conducted in the years 2012‑2017 on a total sample of almost 8000 respondents.THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: Firstly, the method of empirical research and hypotheses were described.Secondly, the relation of gender and the situation in the Polish labor market was presented and then the situation of technical university graduates within the contemporary labor market were outlined. Finally, there was a presentation of research results and summary with recommendations.RESEARCH RESULTS: The results confirm the influence of gender on the employee’s professional situation, which is worse for women, also in the case of technical university graduates. Women fared worse than men i.a. in terms of the percentage of working individuals, the length of the period of searching for employment upon graduation and they were paid less than men. Nevertheless, it should be emphasized that the situation of both the women and the men surveyed can be described as favourable. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: It can be hoped that the differences will be reduced. The changes should focus primarily on two key areas: the amount of remuneration received and the nature of the workplace.

    This article analyzes the of vocational activation programs and their impact on the level of unemployment in Poland. In the first part of the article presents the status and structure of unemployment in Poland in the years 2003-2012. The second part of the study is empirical and an study of the significance of the various forms of active labor market policies on the level of the efficiency index of employment.

    Providing equal opportunities to both men and women has become an important policy issue to most developed countries' governments. One of it’s main dimensions is gender equality on the labor market. That includes: market participation, employment and wages. In a workplace equal treatment can be observed through wages. The aim of this paper is to investigate determinants of wage differentials between women and men of equal productivity on Polish labor market. Using Blinder-Oaxaca decomposition allows to: measure wage differences, return on individual characteristics and gender pay discrimination.

    Global Migration – a flow of people across borders – is of great importance both for the development of international relations and economic growth as well as labor market and poverty reduction. Little attention is paid to the fact that it affects countries, traditionally produced migration, and destination. The article is based on the latest statistics and social research on Polish emigration. According to the definition of the American Dream by James Truslow Adams: life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement regardless of social class or circumstances of birth, Poles like to emigrate to the United States. The author focuses on: Polish emigrants to the United States of America – the country most desired by all immigrants in the world. In the article special attention is given to the context of sociological and economic emigration. The picture of Polish diaspora in the United States is changing rapidly. New Polish emigrants are more educated and more focused on their career in the United States. They are also better adapted to the needs of professionals seeking jobs in the U.S. labor market.

    The article is devoted to the analysis of the direct impact of chosen airports on the regional labor markets in Poland. The authors try to answer the following research questions: how the development of the Polish air transport market influenced labor markets in regions? Whether the growing air traffic at Polish airports, particularly regional airports, entails the increase of employment at airports and in companies located at the airports and offering services for air transport? Whether the increase of employment is proportional to the increase in the number of passengers and cargo in the air transport? In the introduction the categories of impact of an airport on regional economy have been described, then the development of the air transport market in Poland after the accession to the EU and direct impact of chosen airports on labor market – employment generated by 5 regional airports, which shared the primary data, i.e. Kraków Airport, Katowice Airport, Wrocław Airport, Bydgoszcz Airport, and Szczecin Airport have been presented. The analysis of the size of employment has been tied with the analysis of changes in the size of air traffic in the examined airports. In the last part of the article these airports have been presented in the background of the biggest employers in the regions from the industry, trade and services sectors.

    W artykule przedstawiono sytuację na rynku pracy w zachodniej Polsce i wschodnich Niemczech oraz jego demograficzne uwarunkowania w okresie po wejściu Polski do Unii Europejskiej.Wskazano na różnice w funkcjonowaniu rynku pracy oraz sytuacji demograficznej obszarów wielkomiejskich i peryferyjnych w zachodniej Polsce i wschodnich Niemczech. Polska strona pogranicza charakteryzowała się wyższym poziomem bezrobocia, niższym poziomem płac oraz produktywności, a także lepszą sytuacją demograficzną, szybszym wzrostem liczby miejsc pracy oraz PKB. Świadczy to o zmniejszaniu się różnic w poziomie rozwoju gospodarczego na pograniczu polsko-niemieckim oraz przenoszeniu działalności gospodarczej na stronę polską.
    The article presents the labor market situation in western Poland and East Germany and its demographic determinants during the first years after the Polish accession to the European Union. The differences in functioning of the labor market and demographic situation in metropolitan and peripherial areas was shown forWest Poland and East Germany. Polish side of the border was characterized by higher levels of unemployment, lower wage and productivity levels combined with a better demographic situation, faster growth in jobs and GDP. This reflects the reduction of disparities in economic development on the German-Polish border and the transmission of economic activity on the Polish side.

    Nowadays, the situation of the youth on the labour market is difficult. The high rates of unemployment among young people, especially those with higher education, made it difficult for them to start their career path on the labour market. What is more, the rising unemployment have decreased options for the individuals to get job of their own choice. On the other hand, employers encounter problems with recruiting new employees. According to Study of Human Capital, in the years 2010-2013 approximately 3/4 of employers in Poland reported problems with finding new employees. Candidates to work had not met their expectations. What are the employers' expectations towards candidates to work? The purpose of this article is to answer the question - what competencies are important on today's labour market? The paper aims also to demonstrate the problem of skills mismatch on the labour market. Skills mismatch occurs when individuals' actual level of skills exceeds or falls short of the level of skills required for their jobs. Skills mismatch has become a substantial concern among policy makers. Discrepancies between the demand and supply of skills on the Polish labour market are noticeable. The context of above observations are „future skills”. It is expected that over the next several years such competences as analytical thinking, ability to work in an international environment or the ability to search and filter information will be essential on the labour market.

    This article is about immigrants’ perceptions of their host society and cultural differences. The analysis is based on twenty in-depth interviews conducted in 2018 with persons from Turkey working in Poland. Their narratives are a rich source of information about the challenges of the integration process and about the opportunities and dilemmas of ethnically and religiously diverse groups in Polish society, which is becoming increasingly multicultural. The respondents pointed to the recent noticeable deterioration in the attitude of Poles toward foreigners in general, which translates into more negative attitudes toward Turks. The cultural differences most commonly noticed related to work culture and working conditions. Although Poland’s fairly large ethnic uniformity was mostly declared to be a hindrance in the adaptation process, some immigrants saw it as strengthening social cohesion and facilitating adaptation to life in the new country. In defining the cultural differences and expectations of the host society, the foreigners became more aware of the values, practices, and attitudes with which they had become acquainted. Some interviewees did not define the differences they observed as traits of the sending or receiving society but rather “de-nationalized” the differences and referred to other categories of diversity, for example, of a class nature.

    Artykuł stanowi przegląd zagadnień badawczych w obszarze studiów nad migracjami kobiet ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem mobilności Polek. Charakteryzujemy stopniową zmianę paradygmatu, która doprowadziła do zaobserwowania odmienności migracji kobiet i mężczyzn oraz uznania w związku z tym, że płeć jest niezwykle ważną zmienną niezbędną przy ich analizowaniu i wyjaśnianiu. Naszym celem jest również przedstawienie mobilności Polek w perspektywie historycznej, jak i zarysowanie współczesnych trendów w polskich studiach migracyjnych. Poszukujemy siły i sprawczości migrantek, ich determinacji w zmianie życia nie tylko dla siebie, ale i rodzin, uwzględniając złożony ekonomiczno-społeczny kontekst globalny i krajowy. Inspiracją do przygotowania tekstu w takiej perspektywie, jak i całego tomu była 100. rocznica uzyskania przez Polki praw wyborczych.
    The article is a review of research areas in the field of women’s migration studies with particular emphasis on the mobility of Polish women. We characterize the gradual paradigm shift, which has led to the observation of differences in the migration of women and men, and recognition that gender is a key variable necessary for analyzing and explaining them. Our goal is also to present the mobility of Polish women in a historical perspective, as well as to outline contemporary trends in Polish migration studies. We are looking for the strength and agency of migrant women, their determination to change lives not only for themselves but also for their families, and take into account the global and national socio-economic context. The inspiration for both the article and the entire volume was the 100th anniversary of granting electoral rights to Polish women.

    Niniejsze opracowanie jest próbą identyfikacji i określenia współdziałania prawnych i ekonomicznych determinant innowacyjności polskiej gospodarki, a zatem konkurencyjności polskiego handlu na wspólnym rynku Unii Europejskiej, a szerzej rzecz ujmując – w zglobalizowanej gospodarce światowej. Na bazie dogłębnej analizy dynamiki zmian w poziomie konkurencyjności strukturalno-czynnikowej polskiego handlu na rynku UE (wskaźniki RCA oraz IIT w latach 2002–2012) autorzy systematyzują wewnętrzne i zewnętrzne determinanty innowacyjności na poziomie mikro- i makroekonomicznym oraz wskazują na istotę, znaczenie i obszary wyzwań stojących przed polską gospodarką w tym względzie. Obok aspektów polityczno-ekonomicznych (polityka ekonomiczna państwa w krótkim i długim okresie), opracowanie zawiera również wskazania co do uwarunkowań i pożądanych zmian w zakresie prawa krajowego, unijnego i międzynarodowego.
    This study is an attempt to identify and define the cooperation of legal and economic determinants of innovativeness of the Polish economy, and thus the competitiveness of Polish trade in the single market, the European Union and, more broadly speaking – in a globalized world economy. On the basis of thorough analysis of the dynamics of changes in the level of structural competitiveness of Polish trade on the EU market (RCA and IIT indicators in the period of 2002–2012), the authors systematize internal and external determinants of innovation at macro- and microeconomics level and point out the essence, signifi cance and areas of challenges facing the Polish economy in this regard. In addition to political and economic aspects (economic policy in the short and long term), the study also includes indications as to the conditions and desired changes in national, EU and international law.
