Regardless of the role that is attributed largely to the traditional attitude of Switzerland on bilateral relations and the trend of still continuing the support of the conduct of international design policies, one still cannot ignore the importance of the part played by the participation of both countries in international organizations. In the face of the current progressive opacity and complexity of the global situation, which not only makes it impossible to carry out the policy of isolationism, but also significantly reduces the effects of bilateral policy, an increase in the role of this plane has become increasingly evident in many contexts Polish-Swiss relations.

The text outlines Poland’s authority from a political and cultural point of view, by focusing on the reception of Polish literature in one of Bulgaria’s most popular (and until recently, only one remaining) literary weekly, “Literaturen vestnik”. As well as offering western ideas, it also filled certain gaps by providing translations of some great Western authors, “Litera-turen vestnik” pays due attention to the developments in Central Europe, and presents the creativity of Zbigniew Herbert, Czesław Miłosz, Ryszard Kapuściński, Olga Tokarczuk, Ryszard Krynicki, Ewa Lipska, Wisława Szymborska, Andrzej Stasiuk, Magdalena Tulli. The text also gives an account of the Polish¬ themed issues of “Literaturen vestnik”, dedicated to some of the above¬ mentioned authors, as well as to feminism, the Polish NIKE literary award, the Conrad Festival in Cracow and the formation of a Polish community among Bulgarian translators and readers.

Identity of Polish community can be defined in various categories. From one side, those people have typical foreign community identity, from the other, they have bipolar identity focused on integration with the Netherlands. Organizations that function in Holland are open to new cultural challenges. There are following new Polish community organizations operating in Holland: Multicultural Platform for Peace and Freedom, TOP Polki, Polish Professional Woman of the Netherlands.
Tożsamość Polaków w diasporze w Holandii można definiować w różnych kategoriach. Z jednej strony jako typowo polonijną, a także jako polską zmierzającą do identyfikacji dwukierunkowej kraju osiedlenia. Organizacje, które funkcjonują w Królestwie Niderlandów są otwarte na nowe wyzwania kulturowo-cywilizacyjne. Należą do nich m.in. Fundacja Multikuturalna Platforma dla Pokoju i Wolności, TOP Polki, Polish Professional Woman of the Nederlands. Młode pokolenie imigrantów uczestniczy w działalności organizacji głównie w formie wolontariatu. Głównym celem współczesnych organizacji jest promocja Polski w Holandii.

The article shows the characteristic features of the Polish immigration to Austria. A description of the emigration to Austria as well as detailed statistical information concerning the number of foreigners, among them Poles, in the second half of the twentieth century are presented in the article. Moreover, it focuses on the results of the research which was conducted amongst the Poles staying in Austria. The research concerned the strategy which was adapted with reference to the departure and the time of stay of the Poles in Austria and the attitude taken towards the integration with the environment. There is a difference in the approach towards emigration life depending on the time of departure. People who left their countries in the 1970s were planning mainly a temporary stay, however, because of favourable currency rates they prolonged their stay. Seeing the advantages of living in Austria, they usually did not plan to return to their homelands. Those who had been persecuted in Poland or stayed abroad illegally, closed their way of return. Thus if they had not been planning to emigrate to more distant countries, they integrated quickly in the new environment. People who left their homelands in the 1990s live in two worlds, working in Austria while spending and investing back in Poland. People who have recently left their countries of origin, have been driven mainly by non-economic reasons, for instance they went to study. They are not attached to certain places but they choose the place of living so as to find better professional opportunities. Finally, some remarks are included concerning the efforts to acknowledge the Poles as the national minority in Austria.

This study is aimed at exploring the dynamics of EU post accession Polish communities’ formation within the Glasgow area. In particular, it will concentrate on an analysis of the meaning of ‘community’ among groups of post accessed Polish migrants living and working in Glasgow and how this varies in relation to gender, age, and social class and other social divisions, including internal structures of marginalization and feelings of trust or distrust. It suggests that Polish migrants do not constitute a single migration community in Glasgow but a range of diverse personal communities that can be understood as a range of dense, relative autonomous relations that vary in terms of trust, obligation, and strength. As such, the Polish migrants maintain close and dense co-ethnic ties with specific groups of friends and family members simultaneously distinguishing them from the general, ethnic Polish community in Glasgow which was perceived as competitive and threatening.

The paper looks at the selected issues related to the Polish migrants in Iceland. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the number of the Polish migrants there grew nearly tenfold and exceeded 17,000 in 2018. As a result, Poles are the most numerous national minority in Iceland. The author discusses demographics, including size of the community and its distribution, migration patterns, occupational careers and position in the labour market, integration and activities of Polish associations, both formal and informal ones.

W artykule wskazuje się na pobyt i działalność Polaków w państwach położonych na terenie Półwyspu Arabskiego. Do państw tych zaliczono Arabię Saudyjską, Bahrajn, Jemen (po II wojnie światowej występował tam Jemen Południowy i Jemen Północny), Katar, Oman oraz Zjednoczone Emiraty Arabskie. Kontakty Polaków z tym regionem świata w przeszłości były niewielkie. Na Półwysep Arabski trafiali zatem nieliczni mieszkańcy z ziem polskich. Sytuacja ta zmieniła się od lat siedemdziesiątych XX wieku, kiedy państwa arabskie zaczęły się dynamicznie rozwijać na podstawie uzyskiwanych środków finansowych ze sprzedaży surowców naturalnych – ropy naftowej i gazu ziemnego. Dzięki temu przybywały tam kadry naukowo-techniczne oraz specjaliści z różnych dziedzin, ponadto przedstawiciele branży turystycznej i muzycy. Poprzez polsko-arabskie małżeństwa nad Zatoką Perską zamieszkały także Polki, które wyszły za mąż za Arabów. Występujące na przełomie XX i XXI wieku skupiska polskie i polonijne na Półwyspie Arabskim liczyły od kilku do kilkuset przedstawicieli, w zależności od konkretnego podmiotu międzynarodowego. Pojedyncze osoby i rodziny mieszkały w Jemenie i Omanie, 30 osób w Katarze, od 100 do 200 w Bahrajnie i Arabii Saudyjskiej, a 600 w Zjednoczonych Emiratach Arabskich. To ostatnie skupisko polonijne należało do najlepiej zorganizowanych w świecie arabskim. W ciągu 30 lat od zmian systemowych podjętych nad Wisłą, społeczności polskie i polonijne na Półwyspie Arabskim rozrosły się od skupisk kilkudziesięcioosobowych (Jemen, Oman) poprzez kilkusetosobowe (Arabia Saudyjska, Bahrajn, Katar) do kilkutysięcznych (Zjednoczone Emiraty Arabskie). Dalej zatem Abu Zabi, Dubaj i Szardża są miastami, w których najchętniej podejmują zatrudnienie Polacy i przedstawiciele Polonii ze świata zachodniego.
The article discusses the life and activity of Poles in the countries on the Arabian Peninsula. The countries are Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Yemen (South Yemen and North Yemen after WW2), Qatar, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates. Poles had limited contacts with this part of the world in the past. Only few arrived in the peninsula. This situation changed in the 1970s when Arab states began to develop rapidly owing to funds earned from the sale of natural resources: crude oil and natural gas. As a result, they attracted scientific and technical staff as well as experts in various fields, not to mention musicians and representatives of the tourism industry. Polish women who married Arabs were also moving to the Persian Gulf. At the turn of the 20th century, the Polish communities (including earlier Poles immigrants) on the Arabian Peninsula numbered from a few to several hundred people, depending on the country. Polish individuals and families were found in Yemen and Oman, 30 in Qatar, 100 to 200 in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, and 600 in the United Arab Emirates. This last of the listed Polish communities was one of the best organised in the Arab world. For over 30 years since the Polish political and economic transformation, the Polish communities on the Arabian Peninsula have grown from several dozen (Yemen, Oman), through several hundred (Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar) to several thousand people (United Arab Emirates). Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah continue to be most popular economic destinations for Poles and members of the Polish diaspora from the Western world.

Within a wealth of literature on the subject of the social and political participation of immigrants little has been said about the issue of the mount of immigrants’ engagement in immigrant organizations and its conditions. This paper, based on analysis of CAWI survey of 3500 Polish immigrants describes participations of Poles abroad in Polish immigrant organizations. It also defines three sets of factors determining the amount of engagement. The analysis of empirical data shows that the engagement of Poles abroad in activities of Polish immigrant organizations is limited. Hypotheses concerning factors determining participation in Polish immigrant organizations has been positively verified. Both previous experience of social participation in Poland as well as contemporary experience in country of residence positively influence engagement in Polish immigrant organizations. Also the relation between the country of residence, length of stay, as well as the year of with the level of activity in Polish immigrant organizations emigration has been observed. The participation in those organizations tends also to be influenced by such characteristics of a migrant like: age, size of the locality in which a migrant lives after migration, and type of professional activity. Only two of the assumed variables: size of the origin locality and material situation have not been related to participations of Poles abroad in Polish immigrant organizations.

The article presents an excerpt of empirical research conducted among a group of Poles who have emigrated to Austria within the last 40 years (since the 1970s until 2010). It shows the individual dimension of the emigrants' professional situation. It answers the questions of how did emigration influence the professional career of Poles in Austria? How did they manage in the Austrian labour market? What did they achieve in the professional sphere? Does the time of emigration diversify their professional situation or is it insignificant? It also answers the question about the way in which socio-demographic factors diversify the professional situation. In general, people taking part in the research improved their professional standing and, consequently, their financial situation improved considerably as well.

The outline of the history of creation of Polish (Polonocentric) communities in the USA evidences the process of the demographic and social transformation of the diaspora from Polish populations of settlers to Polish communities abroad to Polonocentric circles, which has a substantive influence on education of Polish communities abroad in the areas of command of Polish and knowledge of Poland. The results of the research conducted in the period 2015–2022 in the educational system for Polish communities on the East Coast of the USA permit the conclusions on the necessity to modify the teaching methods, techniques, and materials used in teaching Polish to children and youth of Polish descent.
