Opis:
The paper provides overview of the destiny of some Old Church Slavonic/Church Slavonic manuscripts, as well as the issues related to their time and spatial localization. Special attention has been paid to the role of loanwords in localization of these texts, taking into consideration the different Slavonic and Non-Slavonic contact zones. In addition, the paper elaborates on some rare, new and Slavonized graecisms, entered after the return of the Church Slavonic literature at the Slavonic South, in Slavonic-Greek contact zone. This lexis can be usually found in hymnographic texts, in prophetologion, as well as in the commented psalter. Analysis of many properties shows that Slavonic translations or later redactions of these texts are created at the Ohrid Literary School, i.e. at the Slavonic southwest areal. Several graecisms which became part of the spoken and dialect language contribute to more precise localization. The question remains how certain graecisms can contribute to more precise localization of Church Slavonic texts, considering the fact that a certain lexical layer can originate from the archetype or from the protograph. It is possible that the lexical elements can be a result of the latter redaction.

Opis:
The Albanian part of Lake Ohrid is endangered by heavy metals, the source of which is mainly the old mining waste around the lake shore, but also agricultural pollution. The chromium and nickel concentrations were investigated in the fall season in the sediment and common reed (Phragmites australis). The peroxidation of lipids in stalks was also investigated. The study was conducted on three points of the lake: at the entrance to the city of Pogradec, the former Fe-Ni mine and the village of Lin (control point). Heavy metals were determined with the method of atomic absorption spectrometry and malondialdehyde, using the spectrophotometric method. The results showed that there was greater accumulation of nickel than chromium in both sediments and stalks in the three explored points. The sediment and plant samples taken in the part of the former Fe-Ni mines showed a higher level of investigated metals, compared to the other two research points. At this point, the difference was significant for chromium (p <0.01) compared to the village of Lin, whereas for nickel there was a significant difference (p <0.01) for the two research points compared to the reference point (Lin). Concerning the Cr and Ni levels in stalk, a significant difference (p <0.01) was observed for both metals only in the samples taken from the former Fe-Ni mines, compared to the village of Lin. Meanwhile, the increased MDA level caused by oxidative stress was higher in the plants collected at the entrance of Pogradec, not only with the checkpoint (p <0.01) but also with the plants collected in the former Ni-Fe mine.

While Theophylact’s Enarratio in Evangelium Marci [Explanation of the Gospel of Mark] is known as the first commentary on the whole Gospel in Greek, the question remains: how much of Mark’s Gospel is in this Explanation? The main aim of the article is to examine whether Theophylact notices the specificity of Mark’s Gospel, or whether he is harmonizing Mark with Matthew, on which he commented earlier, or other Gospels. The analysis of the Explanation of the Gospel of Mark shows that Theophylact relates to content typical of the Gospel of Mark. He distinguishes Mark’s theology from other Gospels, recognizing at the same time the theological unity of the four Gospels. His attentiveness to the details of the narrative is evidenced by the accurate presentation of divergences and, regarding some pericopes, the lack of harmonization.

Competitiveness of a city can be seen from different points of view, including tourism attractiveness. Then it is understood as an ability to compete effectively in the area of tourism with other cities. The purpose of this article is to establish determinants of urban competitiveness through its decomposition into elements related to the tourism industry. This topic seems to be important because cities infl uence the functioning and development of whole regions. Moreover, depending on the nature of the city and its location, it can fulfi ll a variety of functions, which are essential for citizens’ standard of living. While searching for determinants of competitiveness, one has to assume that certain factors will affect the competitiveness positively, while others will be a limitation. The fi rst group includes accommodation and tourism services, as well as city resources, such as architectural attractions, nature and availability of transport. The competitiveness can be restricted by polluted natural environment and crime rate.

Opis:
The plan to build a stable state in which two ethnic groups living in Macedonia could coexist was set forth in the framework agreement of 31 August 2001 referred to as the Ohrid Framework Agreement. Creating beneficial conditions for the activity of civil society organisations was one of the main points of the framework agreement. After the VMRO-DPMNE party gained power in 2006 and the Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski took authoritarian direction, non-governmental organisations became one of the main entities intended for liquidation. VMRO-DPMNE limited their access to financing and media, demonised them, and imposed restrictions on their activists, considered traitors of the nation. The Macedonian phone hacking scandal from 2015 revealed many irregularities, including attempts to eradicate non-governmental organisations and their activists. At the same time, it awakened the lethargic and scared civil society. The scale of the protests that started in May 2015 convinced the participants that they were able to revolutionise the Macedonian political arena and to take matters into their own hands. New independent associations and organisations wishing to change the politics of the state were created. For the first time, the citizens united across ethnic divides.

The dispute about the autocephaly of the Macedonian Orthodox Church (MOC), one of the questions within the discourse on the Macedonian national identity since 1967, gained new significance after 1991, as a consequence of the political emancipation of the Republic of Macedonia (RM). This issue is strongly associated with other concerns, such as the country’s internal integration and the struggle to strengthen its sovereignty. In order to support the MOC the authorities attempt to rally the ethnic Macedonians around the idea of national independence and diminish the influences of other Orthodox Churches on the followers of this denomination in RM. Year 2002 saw the failure of the religious consultation and an imminent schism within MOC. It prompted the authorities to act as a guarantor of the undivided jurisdiction of the MOC over the country’s entire territory. This course of action resulted in worsening of the relations with the neighboring Orthodox Christian countries, since the governments cooperate with their respective Churches to contest the independence of MOC. Moreover, since 2002 the issue of MOC’s status is frequently presented within the context of accusations against the RM’s authorities of breaching the civil and religious rights.

The purpose of the article is to present and offer a critical analysis of the achievements of the longest-running mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe – in Skopje. The author evaluates the reasons for the deployment of the mission against the background of the problems which the young republic faced after declaring independence in 1991, the dispute with Greece about the name of the country, and the strained ethnic relations with the growing number of citizens of ethnic Albanian nationality. Against the background of the history, the new tasks of the OSCE are presented, following the Ohrid Framework Agreement. The author concludes that the OSCE Mission in Skopje is still rather a witness to the events than a real driving force behind the change despite the significant achievements in the Balkan state.

Meletius, ex-Archbishop of Ohrid, resided in Ukrainian territories between 1680 and 1695, being highly respected there as a “patriarch of Achrida.” He was in close relations with the Zaporizhian hetman Ivan Samoilovych, and even after the latter’s exile continued to maintain contacts with hetman’s family. Thanks to the hetman’s generosity, the archbishop accumulated a patrimony in one of the richest Ukrainian cities, Nizhyn, which he ultimately bequeathed to the monastery of Mount Sinai. This legacy could be explained by Meletius’ long–term connections with Sinaite monks and with the representatives of this influential monastic community in Polish-Lithuanian and Ukrainian lands. However, their attempts to secure the inheritance of Meletius’ estate met with the opposition of both the local Greek religious confraternity and patriarch Dositheus II of Jerusalem. The article analyses the origin and first stage of their struggle for the “patriarch of Ohrid’s” possessions. Archived materials conserved in Russia offer new insight on the Sinaites’ presence in Ukraine, where they strove to bolster their influence.

The paper raises the question of the role of Biblical tradition in the transfer and adaptation of modern ideas in cultures rooted in Eastern-Orthodox tradition. The subject of reflection is the narrative about St. Clement of Ohrid, the most famous disciple of SS. Cyril and Methodius, and its various literary paraphrases during the interwar period in Bulgaria, in the context of modernist reading of the Bible, as well as the ambivalent experience of secularization among the local intellectual elites.

Opis:
Hagiography represents a special literary genre, which primarily deals with the life of the Saint, also providing information on certain historical events. Taking into consideration the complexity of the genre, it is a common impression that the credibility of the historical narrative is debatable and it can oscillate from subjective to objective positions. Thus, the purpose of the article is to reconstruct certain aspects on Bogomilism as a medieval dualistic movement, having in mind the content of hagiographic literary works. In that respect, the focus will be concentrated on the issue whether and to what extent hagiographic literary works can be treated as a relevant source material. Especially if we suppose that the information related to Bogomils can be indirect, incidental, biased, or having a legendary character. Of course, where possible, comparisons will be made with the accounts from the relevant historical narratives. According to the chronological order several examples from the hagiographic literature will be taken, as: The Short Life of St. Clement, written by the Ohrid Archbishop Theophylact, The Life of Hilarion of Moglena, The Life of St. Sava, The Life of Theodosius of Trnovo as well as The Life of John Vladimir. Despite the difficulty in identifying the authenticity of the historical events, in our case concerning the Bogomilism, hagiographic texts still contain useful material about that how Bogomilism functioned in certain periods and what were the repercussion for the protagonists of the movement.
