history of Methodism
theology of Methodism - Opis:
- The subject of this article is a life of John and Charles Wesley, largely credited as founding of the 18th century movement from which a Methodist Church emerged. Their father was a clergyman of Church of England , appointed the rec-tor of small parish in Epworth. John and Charles followed in his footsteps and also became the clergyman of Church of England. Having been ordained they went to the American colony of Georgia. Although they both found this experience as a failure their defeat was also a spur to a conversion they both underwent in 1738 - first Charles on 21st May and then John, three days later. Since that moment they devoted their lives to stir up awareness of the others and revive Anglicanism in Britain which started a massive religious move¬ment at first and in conclusion lead to rise a Methodist Church. The brothers left as their heritage a vast literary output. Charles was an excellent hymn- writer while the best-known works of John's includes his Sermons and Journals. John also established the foundation of Methodist theology thanks to which a Methodist Church is incorporated into a great family of Evangelical Churches.
