The history of historiography as an independent discipline was created in 1948-1958. In the academic year 1957/1958, the Historical Institute established the Department of History of Historiography and Methodology of History Teaching. Th e initiator of its creation and subsequently its fi rst director was Wanda Moszczeńska (1896-1974), a student of Marcel Handelsman (1882-1945). Th e most successful period of the department was 1976-1997, when the Department was led by Jerzy Maternik, a student of Wanda Moszczeńska.

Opis:
After 1989, the availability of higher studies in Poland increased. Historical studies also became more popular. After a few years, however, the problem of teaching quality decrease was noticed. Therefore, standards for every field of study, including history, were developed. It was not the endof changes. From 2007, two-cycle studies were introduced. Each modification resulted in the decrease of the number of hours assigned to subjects related to historical epochs and methodological ones. Consequently, historical studies became practical studies preparing graduates for work in certain professions.

The development of the history of historiography in Poland was inspired by Marceli Handelsman, a professor at the Warsaw University in 1915-1939. Aft er World War II, his students Marian Henryk Serejski and later Andrzej Feliks Grabski and Andrzej Wierzbicki - employees of the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw – developed research describing the impact of contemporary culture, current beliefs and political trends on historical research. Today, in the Warsaw group of historians, that research work is continued by Zbigniew Romek and Marcin Wolniewicz.

Historical Institute (IH) of University of Lodz was established on 24 June 1948. The first years of its activity took place during the Stalinism period. The stuff and students were subjected to propaganda and were engaged in different political actions. Researches and didactics were imposed into methodology of Marxism-Leninism. The students of IH articulated their objection towards such practices in 1956 and therefore in next years, took place many positive changes. One of them was the possibility of making trips to archives and libraries in western countries. Unfortunately, in 1968 the Institute experienced many political upheavals. The consequences of anti-Semitic campaign, which were then set off, was dismissal from work and emigrating from Poland of four employees of IH. During next years, functioning of the Institute and life of the students were subjected to strong political pressure again. Its expression were e.g. working- -class practices of first year students. The situation in the Institute changed only when in 1980 Independent Self-governing Trade Union “Solidarity” was created. The students and employees started to fight for their issues. The former ones took part in nearly month-long sit-down strike (January–February 1981). After the introduction of martial law two students were interned, besides the stuff and students were forbidden to conduct any independent activities. Some of them however got engaged in underground activity. The legal activity started again only in May 1988. In this time the students government on the IH was created. The students and employees joined into the transitions which took place in 1989. One of adjuncts became even the Member of Parliament (so-called contractual Parliament).
Instytut Historyczny (IH) Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego został utworzony 24 czerwca 1948 r. Pierwsze lata jego działalności przypadły na okres stalinizmu. Kadra i studenci zostali wtedy poddani propagandzie i byli angażowani w różne akcje polityczne, a badaniom i dydaktyce narzucono metodologię marksistowsko-leninowską. Swój sprzeciw wobec tych praktyk studenci IH wyrazili w 1956 r. i dlatego w kolejnych latach nastąpiło wiele korzystnych zmian. Jedną z nich była możliwość wyjazdów pracowników do archiwów i bibliotek w krajach zachodnich. Niestety w 1968 r. Instytut doświadczył wielu politycznych wstrząsów. Następstwem uruchomionej wtedy kampanii antysemickiej było zwolnienie z pracy i wyjazd z Polski czterech pracowników IH. W kolejnych latach funkcjonowanie Instytutu i życie studentów ponownie poddano silnej presji politycznej. Jej wyrazem były np. obowiązkowe praktyki robotnicze dla studentów I roku. Dopiero gdy w 1980 r. powstał Niezależny Samorządny Związek Zawodowy „Solidarność” w Instytucie sytuacja się zmieniła. Studenci i pracownicy zaczęli walczyć o swoje interesy. Ci pierwsi uczestniczyli nawet w trwającym blisko miesiąc strajku okupacyjnym (styczeń–luty 1981 r.). Po wprowadzeniu stanu wojennego dwóch studentów zostało internowanych, poza tym pracownikom i studentom zabroniono prowadzenia wszelkiej niezależnej działalności. Niektórzy z nich podjęli jednak aktywność w podziemiu. Jawna działalność niezależna została na nowo podjęta dopiero w maju 1988 r. Powstał wtedy w IH samorząd studencki. Studenci i pracownicy włączyli się też w przemiany, które nastąpiły w 1989 r. Jeden z adiunktów został nawet posłem na Sejm (tzw. Sejm kontraktowy).

The Library of the Institute of History of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin collects, describes and lends books, magazines, maps from such fields as history, archaeology, archive, art history, cartography, tourism. According to historical sources, the library was established in 1918 or 1919. Initially, the library was named the Library of the Historical Seminar. The size of the collection increased both through purchase and through donations. The books were donated, among others, by prof. Zygmunt Sułowski, prof. Stanisław Litak, prof. Wictoria Śliwowska, Rev. Dr Stefan Mizera. The Library was run successively by Stanisław Olczak  and Elżbieta Janicka-Olczak.

In the academic year 1983/1984, the students of the second year of history of the Catholic University came up with an idea of establishing their own journal titled „Varia”. Its main initiators were Miroslaw Filipowicz and Adam Hlebowicz; later Wojciech Zajączkowski joined them. The magazine was duplicated in the Department of Canon Law of the Catholic University of Lublin, where Filipowicz was assigned to be on duty. The magazine circulation was approx. 30 copies and it was distributed among the students of the second year, student hostel residents and regulars of the reading room of History at  the Catholic University. As estimated by one of the creators of the magazine, it was a group of about fifty people. The journal was not intended to criticize the then authorities as the Security Service took interest in them. The creators of the magazine were checked, but finally the operational activities were discontinued.

Niniejszy artykuł traktuje o seminarium Stanisława Herbsta (1907–1973) w Instytucie Historycznym Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego, które należało – po II wojnie światowej – do jednego z najpopularniejszych seminariów historycznych. Stanisław Herbst prowadził ponadto seminaria magisterskie i doktorskie w Wojskowej Akademii Politycznej, tym samym tworząc szeroką bazę dla recepcji własnych poglądów. Dużą część uczniów Herbsta stanowili historycy wojskowości. O braku ciągłości szkoły Herbsta przesądziły sprawy strukturalne omówione w niniejszym tekście, z których najważniejszą było nieistnienie w Instytucie Historycznym UW katedry historii wojskowej.
This article is devoted to Stanisław Herbst’s (1907–1973) seminar at the Institute of History at the University of Warsaw, which after World War II was one of the most popular historical seminars. Stanisław Herbst also conducted master and doctoral seminars at the Military Political Academy, thus creating a broad base for the reception of his views. Military historians constituted a large part of Herbst’s students. The discontinuation of the Herbst school was determined by structural issues discussed in this text, the most important of which was the lack of a military history department at the Institute of History at the University of Warsaw.
Эта статья посвящена семинару Станислава Гербста (1907–1973), который после Второй мировой войны считался одним из самых популярных исторических семинаров и проходил в Историческом институте Варшавского университета. Кроме того, Станислав Хербст проводил магистерские и аспирантские семинары в Военно-политической академии, создавая тем самым широкую базу для воспитания своих собственных взглядов. Военные историки составляли большую часть учеников Хербста. Отсутствие преемственности школы Хербста было обусловлено структурными вопросами, отмеченными в данной статье, наиболее важным из которых было отсутствие кафедры военной истории в Историческом институте Варшавского университета.

Opis:
У статті узагальнюються результати майже 75-річної діяльності одного з провідних відділів Інституту історії України НАН України з дослідження питань всесвітньої історії, міжнародних відносин і зовнішньої політики України. Розглядаються історія структурних реорганізацій інституту та відділу, формування й характеристика його кадрового складу, проблематика та інноваційний характер багатьох праць наукових співробітників відділу радянського періоду з проблем історії зарубіжних країн та міжнародних зв’язків України, незважаючи на політичну й ідеологічну заангажованість історичної науки в СРСР, а також зміна методологічної та історіографічної парадигм і проблематики досліджень відділу після повалення комуністичних режимів у Європі, розпаду Радянського Союзу й соціалістичного блоку та закінчення «холодної війни» і проголошення незалежності України. Зокрема наголошується, що за 30 років української незалежності науковими співробітниками відділу історії міжнародних відносин і зовнішньої політики України підготовлено й опубліковано понад 100 оригінальних наукових видань (індивідуальних і колективних монографій, тематичних збірників наукових праць, історичних хронік, збірників документів і матеріалів тощо), що є значним творчим здобутком відділу загалом і суттєвим внеском у розвиток вітчизняної історичної науки на сучасному етапі. Вагомим є також внесок відділу в підготовку висококваліфікованих наукових кадрів зі всесвітньої історії, підтвердженням чого є підготовка в ньому й успішний захист близько 50 докторських і кандидатських дисертацій, у розвиток міжнародних наукових зв’язків істориків та координацію наукових досліджень зі всесвітньої історії і міжнародних відносин в Україні.
The article summarises the results of almost 75-year old research activities on world history, international relations and foreign policy of Ukraine by one of the leading departments of the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The history of structural reorganizations of the institute and department, its staff composition, research problems and innovative manner of many scholarly works of the department in the Soviet period on the history of foreign countries and international relations of Ukraine, despite the political and ideological engagement of historical science in the USSR, are investigated. The author focuses on changes in methodological and historiographical paradigm, in the department's research issues following the crash of Communist regimes in Europe, the collapse of the Soviet Union and the break-up of the socialist camp, the end of the Cold War, Ukraine’s declaration of independence. The paper emphasises that for thirty years of Ukrainian independence the researchers of the Department of the History of International Relations and Foreign Policy of Ukraine have prepared over 100 original scholarly publications (individual and collective monographs, thematic collections of scientific papers, historical chronicles, collections of documents and materials, etc.). These scholarly works are a significant achievement of the department and a substantial contribution to the development of national historiography at the present time. The department’s participation is also crucial in training of highly qualified professionals in world history, as evidenced by the preparation and successful defence of about 50 pre-doctoral dissertations and doctoral theses, as well as in developing international scholarly relations among historians and coordination of scientific activities in Ukraine focusing on world history and international relations.

This report presents the history of Department of Endocrinology at Institute of Sport and its scientific and diagnostic achievements across the last 40-year period. A crucial role of the use of advanced analytical techniques, equipment, as well appropriate collaboration between coaches and scientists has been shown for development of our Department. The hormonal examinations among healthy, young and physically active people are undertaken: for elucidate mechanisms of physical adaptation to maximal efforts, reasons for lack of an adaptation despite a training, and finally for understanding of the influence of strong emotions appearing prior to a competition on a rise of fall of the hormones levels. Studies of the mentioned issues allow to determine biological costs in competitive sport, to establish an optimal training and to determine risk of development of chronic fatigue, which occurs, when the ratio of resting time to effort time is inappropriate. Based on metabolomics analysis in capillary blood we have developed useful utilities for coaches. Our scientific achievements focused on analysis of serum free cortisol and testosterone levels and comparisons of these data with concentrations of the salivary hormones. It was shown, that salivary hormones represent their biologically active fractions in the blood. Moreover, the results of our investigations showed, that exercise-induced changes in body temperature and blood acidification may lead to the increases in the biologically active hormones without their secretions into the blood. The above seems to be most crucial conclusion of our scientific investigations.
Raport przedstawia historię Zakładu Endokrynologii oraz jego naukowe i diagnostyczne osiągnięcia w okresie ostatnich 40 lat. Wykazano istotne znaczenie zastosowania zaawansowanych technik analitycznych, sprzętu jak też odpowiedniej współpracy pomiędzy naukowcami a trenerami w rozwoju naszego Zakładu. Badania hormonalne wśród zdrowych, młodych i fizycznie aktywnych ludzi są podejmowane w celu wyjaśnienia mechanizmów adaptacji do maksymalnych wysiłków, przyczyn braku adaptacji pomimo treningu i wreszcie dla zrozumienia wpływu silnych emocji pojawiających się przed zawodami na wzrosty lub spadki stężeń hormonów. Badania wymienionych kwestii pozwalają określać biologiczne koszty w sporcie wyczynowym, zaprojektować optymalny treningu i określić ryzyko rozwoju przewlekłego zmęczenia, które występuje, gdy stosunek czasu odpoczynku do czasu wysiłku jest niewłaściwy. Na podstawie analizy wskaźników w krwi kapilarnej opracowaliśmy pożyteczne narzędzia dla trenerów. Nasze osiągnięcia naukowe skupiły się na analizie stężeń wolnego kortyzolu i testosteronu w surowicy krwi i porównanie tych danych ze stężeniem hormonów w ślinie. Wykazano, że hormony w ślinie reprezentują swoje biologicznie czynne frakcje we krwi. te reprezentują. Ponadto wyniki naszych badań wykazały, że wywołane wysiłkiem zmiany zakwaszenia krwi i temperatura ciała może prowadzić do zwiększenia biologicznie aktywnych hormonów bez ich sekrecji do krwi. Powyższe wydaje się być najbardziej znaczącym wnioskiem naszych badań naukowych.

The article sketches the subject matter and the course of the first videoconference in the history of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Institute of the History of Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences: “The Polish journals on the history and philosophy of science and the science of science: How to get to Scopus, WoS, ICI, DOAJ and ERIH+. Why is it worth doing?” (Krakow – Warsaw – Toruń, 16 April 2020, 10.00–15.00).The conference was organized on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Commission on the History of Science at the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, and to mark the establishment of the Laboratory for the Science of Science at the Institute for the History of Science, Polish Academy of Sciences, currently the only one (!) unit for the science of science in Poland.
