    Opis:
    The paper contributes to the literature on voluntary disclosure of strategy and R&D issues. It refers to disclosures made in the annual reports and at the corporate websites of 69 Polish IT companies. It examines the association between the voluntary disclosure index and company age, size, ownership dispersion, board size, financial performance, leverage and growth prospects. The empirical evidence provided by the research study confirmed that the level of strategy and R&D disclosure was dependent on company age. It was also validated that the larger companies and these listed on the primary market revealed more information on strategy and R&D issues. The study gave evidence that if market capitalization of the company was higher as compared to peer entities managers provided more narratives about the strategy and R&D activities.

    Opis:
    In the presented text, attention is focused on one specific professional term – “gender”. Its concept will first be defined in the theoretical part of this article, and then, based on a review of relevant sources, the first half of the document will outline findings related to gender issues in the workplace, with an emphasis on the possible positives (benefits) of this type of diversity in a person’s working life – i.e. within the performance of professional duties in an enterprise, company or generally an organisation in which people are employed. Subsequently, the practical part of this article will build on the theoretical findings in its first half, specifically through the empirical work of the author. This will take the form of a survey carried out on the employees of a total of four different companies, where survey respondents will be asked individual questions (survey items) how (or if at all) gender diversity is supported and used in their workplaces (how it is manifested, etc.). The aim of the document is to present the concept of gender in relation to a person’s working life and describe the current situation in companies operating in the Czech Republic in the area of gender diversity. In addition to the described general objective of the entire article, goals related to the author’s own exploratory investigation will be defined in its empirical part. On the basis of the aforementioned survey, data from a selected sample of involved respondents will be processed. The results expressed on the basis of this data will complement the first half of the text, which will deal mainly with the knowledge, opinions and findings of other people, professionals in various fields, in whom it is possible to observe an interest in gender issues either in general, or taking into account the professional life of the adult population or directly in relation to the already mentioned gender diversity. For the theoretical part of the document, publications obtained during the author’s research on the basis of the chosen keywords (these include gender, gender diversity, gender stereotyping, discrimination and others) will be utilised.
    Niniejszy artykuł koncentruje się wokół jednego fachowego terminu, a mianowicie – „gender”. Termin ten zostanie najpierw zdefiniowany w części teoretycznej artykułu, a następnie, w oparciu o przegląd odpowiednich źródeł literaturowych, przedstawione zostaną wyniki badań odnośnie problematyki płci w miejscu pracy, z naciskiem na możliwe korzyści płynące z tego rodzaju różnorodności w życiu zawodowym człowieka, czyli w ramach wykonywania obowiązków zawodowych w przedsiębiorstwie lub ogólnie w organizacji, w której ma miejsce zatrudnienie. Następnie praktyczna część tego artykułu będzie opierać się na ustaleniach z części teoretycznej oraz na badaniach empirycznych przeprowadzonych przez autora artykułu. Badania przeprowadzone zostaną za pomocą ankiety wśród pracowników łącznie czterech różnych firm z branży IT, w ramach której respondenci odpowiedzą indywidualnie na pytania, w jaki sposób (lub czy w ogóle) różnorodność płci jest wspierana i pożytkowana w ich miejscach pracy (jak się to objawia, itp.). Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie koncepcji płci w odniesieniu do życia zawodowego danej osoby oraz opisanie aktualnej sytuacji w firmach działających w obszarze różnorodności płci na terenie Republiki Czeskiej. Oprócz tak sformułowanego powyżej celu artykułu, w jego części empirycznej zostaną określone cele związane z badaniami eksploracyjnymi przeprowadzonymi przez autora. Na podstawie wyżej wymienionej ankiety przetwarzane będą dane z wylosowanej próby respondentów. Wyniki wyrażone w oparciu o te dane będą stanowiły uzupełnienie dla części teoretycznej artykułu, która będzie dotyczyła głównie wiedzy, opinii i wyników badań innych osób, profesjonalistów z różnych dziedzin, którzy interesują się problematyką płci ogólnie lub z uwzględnieniem życia zawodowego dorosłej populacji lub bezpośrednio w odniesieniu do wspomnianej już różnorodności płciowej. W części teoretycznej artykułu wykorzystane zostaną publikacje, z których korzystał autor w trakcie prowadzonych badań na podstawie wybranych słów kluczowych (m.in. płeć, różnorodność płciowa, stereotypy płciowe, dyskryminacja i inne).

    The paper presents the results of a research study, whose focal issue was the extent of disclosure in annual reports of costs of trade enterprises on the example of IT companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Due to its limited scope, this study should be treated as a pilot, constituting the introduction to further and more detailed research and analyses, which ultimately will include all companies listed on the WSE within the Polish Classification of Activities (PKD) wholesale and retail trade, and car repair. The aim of the study is to evaluate the usefulness of the annual report as a source of information about the costs of a trading company. Information on costs in annual reports results from informational obligations defined by current regulations of law, environmental needs, as well as each economic entity’s individual approach to the presentation of financial information in financial reports and to disclosure of additional information (qualitative and financial) in explanatory notes and in an activity report. It should also be noted that the presentation in the same costs group of different specific items proves that factors influencing the amount and structure of costs in a given period in particular entities conducting trading activity in the same sector have various significance for the results. Presenting information on risk within holdings indicates cost- determining factors both of operational and strategic natures, external and internal, dependent on the enterprise and independent of it. The sector in which the researched economic entities operate is an important factor which has an influence on the identification of cost drivers and costs whose source is risk related to the economic activity conducted.

    Over the past 10 years IT outsourcing has attracted attention of professionals as a new successful business model that enables developing countries to take a rightful place in the world market. However, the potential of outsourcing of information services in Ukraine is not fully implemented as yet. Research of the Ukrainian IT–outsourcing industry will contribute to understanding the features, opportunities and risks of further development of this industry. The purpose of writing this paper is to identify the trends of development of IT–outsourcing in Ukraine, to determine its place in the global market of information technology outsourcing, to develop recommendations for the expansion of IT–outsourcing in Ukraine. The study was carried out by using empirical methods: measurement, comparison, observation. It was determined that the undisputed leader of the world market by the scope of IT–outsourcing is India. Its success encourages other developing countries to engage efforts to create a national industry of IT–outsourcing. Ukraine can also be called an active player in the global market of information technology outsourcing, which is one of the few sectors of the Ukrainian economy that under conditions of difficult economic and political situation in the country develops effectively. We listed positive trends that take place in the IT–outsourcing despite the critical state of the country. Negative tendencies in this area were identified, in particular low level of trust in Ukraine from the Western companies and we made a conclusion about possible negative impact of this factor on the volume of the market of IT–outsourcing. Solutions to the problems in this industry are proposed and attention is focused on providing strategic priority to the IT-–outsourcing. The scientific novelty of the work consists in identifying trends and priorities for the development of IT–outsourcing in Ukraine during political and economic crisis.  The practical value of the work lies in defining a guideline for the development of state policy in the area of IT. In addition, the obtained results can be used in further studies in the field of IT–outsourcing in Ukraine and in determining its competitive advantages compared to other countries, which have powerful sectors of the IT–outsourcing. Such research can serve as the basis for decision–making by the Western companies when choosing a country to transfer their IT technologies to. Further scientific results are advisable to focus on determining the prospects of the development of free–lance in Ukraine and on the search for mechanisms of cooperation of Ukrainian and foreign partners in this field.
    Протягом останніх 10 років IT-аутсорсинг привертає увагу фахівців як нова успішна бізнес-модель, що дозволяє країнам, які розвиваються, зайняти гідне місце на світовому ринку технологій. Однак потенціал аутсорсингу інформаційних послуг в Україні ще не повністю реалізовано. Дослідження української індустрії  IT-аутсорсингу сприятиме розумінню особливостей, можливостей та ризиків подальшого розвитку цієї галузі. Мета написання даної роботи − виявлення тенденцій розвитку IT-аутсорсингу в Україні, визначення її місця на світовому ринку аутсорсингу інформаційних технологій, розробка рекомендацій щодо розширення IT-аутсорсингу в Україні. Дослідження проводили за допомогою емпіричних методів: вимірювання, порівняння, спостереження. Визначено, що безумовним лідером світового ринку за обсягом IT-аутсорсингу є Індія. Її успіх стимулює інші країни, що розвиваються, докладати зусиль для створення національної індустрії IT-аутсорсингу. Україну також можна назвати активним гравцем на світовому ринку аутсорсингу інформаційних технологій, що є однією із небагатьох галузей української економіки, яка в умовах важкої економічної та політичної ситуації в країні ефективно розвивається. Перелічено позитивні тенденції, що мають місце в IT-аутсорсингу, незважаючи на кризовий стан країни. Визначено негативні тенденцї в цій галузі, зокрема, наголошено на зниженні рівня довіри до України із боку західних компаній і зроблено висновок про можливий негативний вплив цього фактора на обсяги ринку IT-аутсорсингу. Запропоновано шляхи вирішення проблем у даній галузі та акцентовано увагу на наданні стратегічного пріоритету IT-аутсорсингу. Наукова новизна роботи полягає у визначенні тенденцій і пріоритетів розвитку IT-аутсорсингу в Україні під час політичної та економічної кризи. Практичне значення роботи полягає у визначенні орієнтира для розробки державної політики у галузі IT. Крім того, отримані результати можуть бути використані в подальших дослідженнях галузі IT-аутсорсингу України та визначенні її конкурентних переваг порівняно з іншими країнами, що мають потужний сектор IT-аутсорсингу. Такі дослідження можуть стати основою для прийняття рішень західними підприємствами про вибір держави для передавання своїх IT-технологій. Подальші наукові розробки доцільно спрямувати на визначення перспектив розвитку фрілансу в Україні та пошук механізмів співпраці у цій галузі українських й іноземних партнерів. Рис. 2. Табл. 1.     Celem artykułu jest ustalenie wpływu otoczenia przedsiębiorstwa na wybrane aspekty funkcjonowania małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw (MSP). W szczególności analizowany jest wpływ zmienności popytu, zmienności otoczenia technologicznego i nasilenia konkurencji na innowacyjność, wykorzystanie technologii informacyjnych i efektywność funkcjonowania MSP.     The objective of this paper is determining the effect of environment on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Particularly, the paper is focused on the effects of environmental factors (market turbulence, technological turbulence and competitive intensity) on innovativeness, information technology (IT) capability and firm performance. The research is based on data from 109 Silesian SMEs.
