Opis:
Introduction: Obesity is a major problem for millions of citizens. The treatment of obesity is a problem of nutritionists, psychologists, physical therapists, internists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and many other specialists.Purpose:To determine the influence of obesity on: blood pressure (systolic and diastolic), mean pressure (MAP), the scale of the risk of surgery (ASA) and saturation.Materials and methods:The study was conducted among 200 patients. The research was prospective and was carried out in the general operating theatre in the Regional Specialist Hospital in Biała Podlaska between May 2011 and July 2012. The study was based on the anaesthetic documentation – anaesthetic information card, observation and analysis of patient records. For the statistical calculations, we used Statistica 10.0 using NIR test. Differences at p<0.05 were identified as significant. Results:The study did not confirm the significant impact of obesity on the deterioration of blood oxygenation. The surveyed men had significantly been higher preoperative absolute risk compared to women. A close relationship between an increased BMI and an increased risk associated with anesthesia was expressed in the ASA score chart. Conclusion:This study proved that overweight and obesity significantly affected blood pressure (systolic, diastolic), and MAP.

Opis:
Stroke is the second most common cause of mortality. Ischemic stroke is approximately 10 times more common than haemorrhagic stroke. The strongest risk factor for ischemic stroke is hypertension; thus, reduction of blood pressure decreases the risk of ischemic stroke. However, the prognostic importance of blood pressure after is unclear. The problem is even more complex considering blood pressure variability, i.e. continuous changes of blood pressure values. The aim of this review is to discuss very short-term, short-term, mid-term, and long-term blood pressure variability in the context of clinical outcome in patients after acute ischemic stroke.

Opis:
Introduction. Despite considerable progress in diagnostic methods and treatment options, cardiovascular diseases constitute a serious health issue in Poland, and hypertension is considered one of the main risk factors in the incidence of the diseases. Objectives. The aim of this study is to assess the values of arterial blood pressure among adolescents in the context of urban and rural environments. Materials and method. The study was carried out on a representative, randomly selected group of youths aged 10–18 years, participating in the ADOPOLNOR project. Prior to blood pressure measurement, each pupil was assessed according to anthropomorphic principles. The BP measurements strictly followed the guidelines of the Fourth Protocol of the American Working Group of High Blood pressure in Children and Adolescents. Results. Mean values of systolic blood pressure (SBP) in boys in rural areas were higher in every age group than in the boys in urban areas. Higher values of systolic and diastolic blood pressure were observed also in girls in rural areas. BP values sufficiently high for the diagnosis of hypertension were observed in 12.8% of the rural boy population but only in 6.7% of the boys from the urban environment. The difference is statistically significant. The girls in rural areas (13.3%) had twice the incidence of elevated BP values in comparison with the girls in urban areas (7.2%) and, as in boys, the difference is statistically significant. Conclusions. The high proportion of pupils with elevated arterial blood pressure observed in the rural areas of Wielkopolska calls for regularly performed BP assessment and monitoring in this population.

Nowadays there is a tendency of deterioration in young people health. Despite sharp rise in disease level of students there are no changes in current program of physical education for students of higher educational institution; it is significant problem of physical culture and sport field. It is also worth noting there is no special educational program for students who are referred to physical rehabilitation groups because of their health condition. So in the face of the deterioration of students' health condition there appears a need to search the effective methods of physical education which can facilitate the solving of an actual problem. The objective of research is determination of the effectiveness of Callanetics experimentally during educational process of students of the II-III level of scoliosis. For achieving this goal there were used the following methods of research: theoretical analysis and synthesis; testing of functional indicators of cardiovascular system (heart rate and blood pressure - systolic, diastolic and pulse); statistical data processing. The analysis of results gives evidence about effectiveness of physical educational experimental program using callanetics for physical rehabilitation groups with students of the II-III level of scoliosis. It is proved that this program has had a significant impact on the functional indicators of the cardiovascular system, it is also defined as the criterion of fitness level and adaptation abilities of an organism. The results can be used in further practice of physical education classes with groups of physical rehabilitation faculty.

Opis:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of moderate-intensity resistance exercise on postexercise hypotension (PEH) in the hypertensive. The study was conducted with eighteen hypertensive elderly individuals (20–30 years). They were subjected to two experimental sessions: control session (SC) and 50% (S50%) of 1RM. For each session, subjects were evaluated pre-and postintervention. In the preintervention, the blood pressure (BP) and FVR were measured after 10 min of rest. Thereafter, they were taken to the gym to perform the exercise sessions or remained at rest in each of the equipment during the same time.In the S50% group was composed of a set of ten repetitions of ten exercises, with an interval of 90 s between exercises. Subsequently, the FVR and BP measurements were again performed at 15, 30, 45, 60 and 75 min of recovery (postintervention). The PEH was greater in S50% compared with SC, with the lower value of BP being found at 75 min of recovery for the two sessions (systolic BP:125.21 ±0.98mmHg versus 145.45 ±1.72 mmHg; diastolic BP: 83.60 ±1.67 mmHg versus 95.14 ±0.74 mmHg respectively). Moderateintensity resistance exercise was effective in promoting PEH, this phenomenon being accompanied by a reduction in FVR within the first minute of recovery in the hypertensive young.

Purpose: Presenting how blood pressure cuffs are cleaned by nurses and which disinfectant agents are used in cleaning the cuffs will allow conducting detailed studies that can establish a standard procedure for cuff cleaning. However, there is no study on the views of nurses and application procedures regarding the cleaning of blood pressure cuffs. Therefore, this study aimed to determine nurses' attitudes regarding cleaning the blood pressure cuffs in Turkey. Materials and methods: The study sample was composed of nurses working in Turkey who were invited and agreed to participate in the study from February to March 2021. This study was completed with 286 nurses with 90% power. Research data were collected online via Google Forms. Results: In the study, 64.3% of the nurses stated that the cleaning staff should be responsible for cleaning the cuffs. 29.4% reported that the cuffs were cleaned several times a month, and 20.3% stated that cuffs were cleaned only when they were infected. 52.1% reported that alcohol was used for cleaning the cuffs. Conclusions: Nurses agreed on the necessity of cuff cleaning and that the cuffs could be a source of infection when they were not cleaned. Since nurses have an important role in infection control, they should play an active role in cuff cleaning and receive training on this issue.

The aim of the study is to determine the effects of a multidisciplinary lifestyle intervention (including a short period of physical exercise) on some health-related variables, particularly on blood pressure, in an overweight/obese adult group. The main outcome was blood pressure lowering. The study involved 378 subjects affected by obesity or type 2 diabetes. The intervention included exercise, nutrition and psychological aspects. Before and after the intervention, several anthropometrics, cardiovascular risk related measures (height, body weight, body mass index, waist circumference, body composition and WHTR index) and physical exercise measures (aerobic capacity, flexibility and dynamic muscle strength) were evaluated through fitness tests. We observed a significant reduction in: blood pressure values, body weight, BMI, waist circumference, WHTR, fat mass and an improvement of fat free mass and physical exercise measures. The C.U.R.I.A.Mo. multidisciplinary approach is effective for reducing blood pressure, after relatively few exercise sessions (three weeks), particularly in patients with hypertension. The intervention can ameliorate the health status and physical performance in the short term, in normotensive and hypertensive adult subjects with overweight/obesity.

Introduction. Blood pressure (BP) is a complex entity which is influenced by many factors. The impact of socioeconomic class and body mass index (BMI) on hypertension has been reported in the past but literature on their influence on blood pressure in healthy adolescents is very limited. Aim. The aim of the study is to assess the influence of BMI and socioeconomic status on BP in healthy adolescents. Material and methods. This cross sectional study includes three hundred healthy adolescents. Anthropometric and BP measurements were done. BMI categories were derived using WHO Asia Pacific guidelines. An updated Kuppuswami scale was used for determining socioeconomic status. Multiple regression analysis and analysis of variance was used to study impact of socioeconomic and BMI classes on BP. Results. Obese subjects of upper socioeconomic class have higher blood pressure values. Strong significant differences in the mean values of systolic blood pressure (f-23.569; p<0.00001), diastolic blood pressure (f-22.470; p<0.00001) and mean arterial pressure (f-27.454; <0.00001) were observed in different BMI classes. Except for diastolic blood pressure (f-2.713; p <0.030) rest of BP indices did not differ significantly in different SES classes. Conclusion. Obese subjects of upper socioeconomic class are prone for development of future hypertension. High BMI is significant risk factor for high BP, however socioeconomic class of the subject should also be considered as predisposing factor for high BP.

Opis:
Objectives: The present study focused on analysing the relationship between body composition and blood pressure in children and adolescents. Methods: The sample consisted of 1025 schoolchildren between 3 and 21 years of age (519 boys and 506 girls). The systolic blood pressure (SBP, mmHg) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP, mmHg) were measured with the Visomat Comfort 20/40 arm tensiometer. The following body composition variables were studied: height (m), weight (kg), body mass index (BMI; kg/m2), fat mass (FM; % and kg), fat-free mass (FFM; % and kg), Fat Mass Index (FMI; kg/m2), Fat Free Mass Index (FFMI; kg/m2), total body water (TBW; % and kg), waist (cm), hip (cm), Waist/Hip Ratio (WHR), basal metabolism (BM, Kcal/day). The body composition was evaluated using the Tanita BC 418-MA body composition analyzer, the height was measured with a HM-250P Leicester stadiometer, and the waist and hip perimeter were measured with a tape measure. The statistical analysis was carried out with the Statistical Package for Social Sciences 23.0. Findings: SBP and DBP were significantly (p<0.05) correlated with all the body composition variables studied, with the exception of the relationship between WHR and DBP. The correlations were positive between blood pressure (SBP and DBP) and the following body composition variables: height, weight, BMI, FM (kg and %), FMI, FFM (Kg), FFMI, TBW (Kg), waist, hip, WHR, and BM. The correlations were negative between blood pressure (SBP and DBP) and the following body composition variables: FFM (%) and TBW (%). Conclusions: The body composition and blood pressure of children and adolescents are closely related, so intervention programs through physical activity to improve body composition would be also an appropriate strategy to reduce the risk of hypertension.

The term metabolic syndrome (MetS) defines the cooccurrence of the related risk factors of metabolic origin that promote the development of cardiovascular diseases with atherosclerotic background and type 2 diabetes. The diagnostic criteria of MetS have undergone modifications for years. Until now no clear definition of MetS has been established. The latest diagnostic criteria of MetS published in 2009 by a group of IDF (International Diabetes Federation) and AHA/NHLBI (American Heart Association/ National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute) experts discern three out of five risk factors: abdominal obesity (taking into consideration population differences), elevated level of triglycerides, reduced HDL cholesterol, hypertension and fasting hyperglycemia. Genetic predispositions and environmental factors, such as lack of physical activity and improper diet are considered to be responsible for MetS development. Therefore, prevention and treatment of MetS should be based first of all on a change in modifiable lifestyle factors, among which proper diet is of essential importance.
