Organizational culture
Opis:
Culture includes organization values, visions, norms, working language, systems, symbols, beliefs, and habits. It is also the pattern of such collective behaviour and assumptions that are taught to new organizational members as a way of perceiving, and even thinking and feeling. Organizational culture affects the way people and groups interact with each other, with clients, and with stakeholders. Workplace diversity is an issue which is focused on differences and similarities that people bring to an organization. It is usually defined broadly to include dimensions beyond those specified legally in equal opportunity and affirmative action for non-discrimination status. Diversity is often inter-preted to include dimensions which influence the identities and perspec-tives that people bring, such as a profession, education, parental status and geographic location. People from different cultures in the world find themselves interacting and working with individuals and groups from other cultures, operating and communicating according to differing sets of cultural norms, values, and communication styles. Consequently, researchers and global leadership practitioners stress a heightened need for understanding other cultures and their people, finding possible issues and what factors show potential to impede effective communication within an organization characterized by cultural diversity.

Towards research on management in cultureThe author of the article analyzes the problem of culture management in Poland in the context of research. Studies dealing with this topic lead to but very few conclusions in Poland. They are associated generally with public culture and almost totally disregard other forms of cultural activity. The author considers the advantages and disadvantages of the statistical approach to culture. He stresses that in Poland there is no consistent methodology associated with the collection and processing of statistical data. The author presents various forms of research funding in this area such as for example Culture Observatory NCK. Take the subject approach to research among the people creating a culture – too strong an attachment to statistics, a lack of interestt the level of the administrative, lack of financial resources. The most tangible effects are: poor contact between creators and consumers of culture, lack of strategy development, low competitiveness of public institutions.

Answers to the tests made it possible to divide participants by different types of culture and built out hierarchy of values preferable for them. Results. The analysis shows that two clusters of examinees leaning toward different types of culture are empirically outlined. Their value orientations and dependence of the established values on the type of culture they lean toward is studied. The research has also indicated that  in traditional culture and modern culture there is different hierarchy of values. Conclusions. Outlining of such types of culture as traditional, modern and dynamically developing culture enables clarification of special features of culture in general. Division of culture as the system into simpler subsystems, which are characterized by certain features, enables analysis of the very phenomenon of culture in detail. Besides that, in this study the importance of values and value orientations as an integral characteristic of culture is stressed.

Opis:
Background: Publications on the issues of creating security culture are a valuable source of inspiration for research into the functions of culture. However, researchers generate different conclusions. They even suggest interdisciplinary consideration of facts, situations, phenomena and processes that take place in a complex security environment. This article is an answer to the main research question: what are the functions of the elements of culture for creating a security culture? Objectives: The research goal is to indicate selected definitions of culture and to identify the functions of culture for transformational changes in security culture. Moreover, the author, based on his knowledge and experience, gives examples of the implementation of these functions. Methods: The research process required the use of a critical analysis of the content of the literature, synthesis, abstraction, generalization, interpretation, analogy and comparison. Additionally, empirical case study methods and implicit participant observation were used. Results: The article contains selected definitions of culture with its components. The author presented the functions of culture for creating a high level of security culture. Conclusions: The research results show that the security culture is influencing by the following variables: intellectual culture, emotional potential and ethical culture.

Opis:
The paper examines the role of cultural factors in economic analyses. It aims to identify and examine areas in which economic analysis takes into account cultural factors that play a role in business. The first part of the paper lists arguments on why economic research should be more sensitive to cultural factors. This primarily results from the fact that economics, like all other areas of human endeavor, is part of global culture, Kostra writes. The second part of the article describes the aspects of culture that are closely related to socioeconomic life. It discusses the idea of economic culture, or value systems linked with business, knowledge and models of behavior. The author also reviews research achievements in this area. The analysis takes into account the results of studies carried out by researchers such as Geert Hofstede, Richard Gesteland, Lawrence Harrison, and Mariano Grondona. Another related notion that is examined in this part of the paper is organizational culture. The third part of the paper deals with the achievements of institutional economics and shows links and relationships between cultural and social institutions. The author sets out to determine if the role of cultural factors in economic processes will decrease as globalization gains momentum. He concludes that despite the convergence of economic systems around the world, based on the emergence of a universal system of values, beliefs and attitudes, cultural differences continue to exist. This largely explains why some countries still hold an advantage over others, Kostro notes.

To derive a more effective educational method, racial differences among Chinese students in learning Korean culture was invesigated using a survey method. The Han and Joseon racial groups in China were examined. Before the survey, the Han race students (Chinese students except Joseon race students, in this case) preferred a language and culture teaching method (LCTM), whereas the Joseon race students favored an audiovisual teaching method (AVTM). However, after experiencing four different teaching methods – comparative-cultural teaching method (CCTM), AVTM, LCTM, and rote memorization teaching method—for two weeks, the Han race students preferred the AVTM more, whereas the Joseon race students preferred the CCTM. Thus, students from the same country require different education methods.

The article discusses the problem of recent changes in so-called “teenage culture”. Theoretical bases of the cultural anthropologic conception were provided by Margaret Mead. According to the author, “teenage culture” is different in each type of Mead’s culture types. Insignificant in the post-figurativstage, “teenage culture” is definitelydistinct in configurativetype in terms of separate aesthetics. This is exemplifiedby teenage subcultures, whose members contest dominant culture patterns (associated with adults). The main question concerns the role of “teenage culture” in the pre-figurativeculture – the modern world. Is the difference between the adults’ and young people’s perspectives evident in “teenage culture”? Moreover, is there a real “teenage culture” nowadays?

The team of the Research Laboratory of the Polish Measurement of Attitudes and Values (PPPiW) already for the fourth time measured the participation in the European Night of Museums in Warsaw. The research was conducted during the night of 16th to 17th of May 2015. The sample was N = 1,102 respondents varied in terms of gender, age, education, place of residence and income. 20 museums, located in different districts, were selected for the research, which enabled the spatial stratification of the sample. The research commentary refers to the following issues of communing with culture: the frequency of reaching for the sources of knowledge about it, the frequency of visiting facilities being its vehicle, and readership. At the same time, it needs to be said that participation in culture refers mainly to its passive consumption, namely by means of the cinema and television. Therefore, the source of knowledge about art lies in the image which supersedes the traditional role of text. Participation in culture becomes a characteristic feature of more and more narrow, elite social group. Participation in high culture to a greater and greater extent becomes the measure of social distances. It leads to the deepening of socio-cultural distances between the groups with higher positions and less educated social groups, also between the residents of cities and villages.

This study consists of two parts. The first contains a theoretical interpretation of lexeme taboo with a particular emphasis placed on the issue of etymology and varied semantics of this concept. This analysis is based on the use of dictionary definitions as well as ethnological and linguistic research. It is also significant to reveal the connection between tabooisation and security culture. The second section is an attempt of response to the question on the tabooisation of the subjects related to body and sexuality in the youth newspaper. The analytic part is intended to depict ways and reasons of this phenomenon. The combination of theoretical description and examples study is meant to illustrate the concept of safety in the context of taboo – the concept, which is nowadays defined not only as a military category, but also as a quality valued as safety culture.

The purpose of a country’s information security system is not only preventing risks but also addressing challenges by reducing risks, and using opportunities. This requires the observance of the safety culture from groups, as well as individual citizens. In the information and knowledge society, the information culture of its members should be considered the primary component of the safety culture. It is with good reason that preparatory tasks regarding the information safety system include activities of the so-called support elements: i.e. science, education and society. With proper organization, equipment and permanent training of their representatives, they contribute to raising the level of the safety culture of its representatives. The information culture in security and defense systems, thus, gains a whole new dimension. This, among other things, prevents the phenomenon of information exclusion, increases public involvement in the process of verifying information messages and support the implementation of the information policy of the state. It is recognized that the improvement of the safety culture with little regard for the information culture may result in the failure to produce the desired effects. Therefore, actions aimed at raising the level of information culture of citizens should be combined with efforts serving to improve their safety culture.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the ways in which religious symbols are present in non-religious spheres of contemporary European culture. It is widely known that, as a result of secularization, religious symbolic language is no longer present in the public sphere and culture of contemporary European societies in the same way as it was in the past. At first sight, it seems that it has lost its relevance for other fields of culture as well as for everyday communication, and that religion has become a relatively closed system of communication. However, more thorough investigation shows that various religious symbols are widely used in many fields of secular culture. The fundamental question concerning religious symbols is whether and, if yes, in what particular way, they change their meaning as a result of being used in non-religious cultural activity. What is the reason that previously marginalized religious symbols reappear in secular culture? It may be hypothesized that religious symbols are not culturally contingent, but they constitute a universal dimension of culture and are deeply rooted in the human mind.
