    The article touches actual principles and ways of waste economy leading in community. Community (Gmina) is a basic territorial unit of a local government which is obliged for environmental protection including assurance of cleanliness at its territory. The task can be fulfilled in different ways allowing actual rules of community, national and local rights. Pertaining to the rights, the article shows the analysis of legal and administrative aspects and in a synthetic way gathers and displays stages and methods of waste economy leading in community.

    The institution responsible for the preparation of candidates for priestly ordination is the seminary. The Ełk Diocese Seminary has been engaged in priestly formation since 16 April 1992. It applies the guidelines of the magiste-rium of the Church and the local tradition and customs, resulting from the spe-cific conditions of the Church of Ełk. The article analyses the profiles of candidates, who join the seminary and the changing religious, cultural and sociological conditions. It presents the cur-rent system and model of formation at WSD in Ełk and proposals for changes and developments of that model in the future. The philosophy of the seminary’s further activities contains the need to shift the emphasis from “formation for priesthood” to “priestly formation”. It enumerates concrete proposals and methods, which are worth considering and possibly including in the future for-mation practice, in order to fulfill the “integral formation” postulate. The con-tent is enriched with the analysis of the questionnaires filled out by the clerics.

    This paper is a review article based on the tradition of realistic philosophy. Its goal is to collect and organize information on two categories emerging in the field of humanistic research into environmental protection. It is about the concepts of “common good” and “integral ecology”, and the assessment of the relationship between them. Another concept analyzed in realistic philosophy is that of “nature”. The good was presented as a universal property of beings, including nature understood as a complex multiplicity of individual beings connected by mutual physical, chemical and biological relations. Nature is regarded as a common good, i.e., a property of all people which serves the development of every individual that makes up the human community. What combines the common good in the sense of classical philosophy with the integral ecology based on Christian doctrine is the guarantee of sustainability and the most equitable access to natural resources. The principle of “diversity in unity” inscribed in the common good is particularly consistent with the assumptions of integral ecology. The interpretation of the common good in the ecological dimension leads to the statement that nature management cannot be based on unlimited liberal freedom, but must be subordinated to minimizing social inequalities and improving the difficult situation of people and entire nations living in poverty and unworthy social or natural conditions. What is needed here is justice, the essence of which consists of the ideas of human dignity, equality, and proportionality in interpersonal relations. These are also common elements of the idea of “common good” and integral ecology.

    The article is about the conception of sustainable development settled in the context of cultural and civilization changes. It can be taken as an alternative to further civilization development and a new panorama, opening up perspectives for the further sustainable development of civilization. The conception is a global strategy of development. It relies on the including of the natural environment into the social and economic development of a region, country or, from a global perspective, of the whole world. It assumes a long-lasting improvement of the quality of life of the present and future generations which is integrally associated with environmental improvement. It also shows the necessity of the spiritual growth and changes of the material aims of the development into immaterial ones. In all these aims and assumptions, there are a lot of practical and mental problems in the sphere of sustainable development which retard and even make it impossible to put these conceptions effectively into life.
    Artykuł dotyczy koncepcji zrównoważonego rozwoju w kontekście przemian kulturowych i cywilizacyjnych. Można być ona traktowana jako alternatywa dla dalszego rozwoju cywilizacyjnego i nowej panoramy, otwierającej perspektywy dalszego zrównoważonego rozwoju cywilizacji. Koncepcja ta jest globalną strategią rozwoju. Polega na włączeniu środowiska naturalnego w rozwój społeczno-gospodarczy regionu, kraju lub w ujęciu globalnym nawet całego świata. Zakłada ona trwałą poprawę jakości życia obecnych i przyszłych pokoleń, co jest nierozerwalnie związane z poprawą stanu środowiska. Wskazuje także na konieczność duchowego wzrostu i przemiany materialnych celów rozwoju na cele niematerialne. We wszystkich tych celach i założeniach istnieje wiele praktycznych i psychologicznych wyzwań w związku z wdrażaniem koncepcji zrównoważonego rozwoju. Wyzwania te opóźniają, a nawet uniemożliwiają skuteczną implementację tej koncepcji.

W tych ogólnych założeniach i celach, zrównoważony rozwój napotyka na wiele praktycznych i mentalnych problemów, które hamują, bądź wręcz uniemożliwiają efektywne wprowadzanie tej koncepcji w życie.

    The actions presented in the article does not exploit all the care about the nature which the most brilliant scientists and politicians were involved in. Since early years of XXth century, exept the national organisations of environmental protection and science initiatives, there has lasted legislative activity which has aimed to protect the nature. This is completely separe issue which demands separe study. All the undertakings and plans might be a sign of a Polish sense of responsibility for environment. Modern world needs people not only rich in knowledge but above all, sensitive for needs of other people and nature that surrounds us. If the history is the best life’s teacher, then maybe it is worth to use this experienced and instructive legacy of polish scientists and initiatives, which were taken for rescuing and creating the natural environment. This history lesson might teach us the correct organizing, management and environmental protection.

    The article is connected with the life and scientific works of Professor Stephen Kozlowski died in September 2007. He was a great research scientist working with the geology of raw materials and then with the conservation and formation of natural environment. Last 25 years of his scientific work he was engaged in the creation of the concept of sustainable development and in the promotion of the concept in Polish social, economic and political life. Using the term “sustainable development” he meant all the activities which improve man’s life conditions and which do not cause the degradation of natural environment. Such effect can be obtained by equalizing of three development vectors: natural, economic and cultural. He proposed that Poland should adapt the economic progress to natural conditions of environment. He said that the idea of the sustainable development being based on the foundations of ecological era had all chances to make a success in our conditions of weather, soil, water and raw minerals.

    The aim of the present article is to approach the problems connected with air pollution and also with different types of scientific, legal and administrative activities in the field of atmosphere protection. The research has been carried out on the territory of the Warsaw agglomeration. In connection with this fact, all means of administration are referred to as the present political and economical conditions of the Warsaw agglomeration. Air Protection Repair Program (NPOP), making up the content of the present work, introduces the resolutions in the field of management of the quality of the air based on the norms used on the territory of the European Union and shows governmental activities directed to the attainment of a common standard of the development of the capital at the arena of other European agglomerations.

    It is well known that green areas are a significant component of urban environment. Plants influence urban conditions in many ways; they have a positive effect on both people’s health and environmental issues, there are many reasons why the proportion of green areas in cities should be increased. It is important to take advantage of plant properties and suitable methods of shaping green areas to benefit nature. The article emphasizes the importance of comprehensive environmental protection. It presents selected methods of shaping green areas and nursing plants, which are in common use in Western Europe and USA, but are under-used in Poland, the main aim of the article is to propose solutions which allow to shape green areas in the Ursynów district of Warsaw in favor of environmental protection e.g. in a way that makes it possible to preserve biodiversity or reduce drink water use.

    This paper presents a predicted target architecture of an integrated manufacturing and management system, based on a metropolitan-type intranet and an industrial process control and monitoring network. Such systems are urgently required by prospective users, especially large-scale manufacturing enterprises. Nevertheless, neither big manufacturers of computer integrated manufacturing systems nor big manufacturers of computer integrated systems are willing to develop combined computer integrated manufacturing and management systems. To evaluate performance, a method developed for packet switching networks with end-to-end acknowledgement was applied. The paper describes the investigations carried out for the case study. Some consideration is given to the performance evaluation accuracy, based on the validation work results obtained from analytical work, simulation and measurements on the Polish pilot wide area network.

    An approach to factory automation is the basis for a case study of Computer Integrated Manufacturing and Management systems (CIMMs). The paper presents some experience in large-scale systems and the current state-of-the-art for the domain. A feasible approach is proposed, based on prospective user expectations and the system development with the use of so-called first thread for which the standards facilitating the development of subsequent systems should be developed, and people acquainted with both manufacturing and management problems should be educated. There is also depicted some research work intended for facilitating the design and implementation of future CIMMs.
