Opis:
Tea is the most common beverage in the world. It is consumed mostly as green tea, oolong, or black tea. Depending on the manufacturing process, different varieties of tea can be produced. As tea is one of the most popular beverages, it could be a tremendously important source of polyphenolic constituents. Tea leaves are a source of polyphenols, especially catechins, which are known for their antioxidative activity. Various studies suggest that polyphenolic compounds present in black tea are associated with beneficial effects in prevention of cardiovascular diseases. In addition, anti-aging, antidiabetic and many other health beneficial effects associated with tea consumption have been reported. The review highlights the potential of black tea, its health benefits in terms of antioxidative, antimutagenic and anticarcinogenic properties as well as protective agents against cardiovascular diseases.

Opis:
2. The transmissions of forty-eight carbon nanotube geometries to form twenty-four intramolecular junctions between every two carbon nanotubes and two simple carbon nanotubes are also taken for investigating numerically. These forty-eight carbon nanotubes form three different kinds of intramolecular junctions, which mean that each sixteen carbon nanotubes are identical to either sixteen carbon nanotubes in all respect, except three different intramolecular junctions in between them. The three intramolecular junctions, named as circumferential defective carbon nanotubes, grouped defective carbon nanotubes and distributed defective carbon nanotubes. The nature of electronic states at the interfaces and in the semiconductor section is analyzed with the help of tight-binding method. These quantum transmissions have been compared among the different defective carbon nanotubes and have been correlated with the pentagon and heptagon that formed in the intramolecular junction. It has been simulated that each pair of semiconductor-semiconductor carbon nanotubes, semiconductor-metallic carbon nanotubes and metallic-metallic carbon nanotubes transmission affect on the presence of junctions pentagons-heptagons. The least deviations transmission is observed in the circumferential defective carbon nanotubes rather than in other two and the maximum deviations are seen in the grouped defective carbon nanotubes irrespective of the joining of the carbon nanotube interface.

Opis:
The proper choice of strata boundaries is an important factor determining the efficiency of the estimator of the considered characteristics of a population. In this article, the Cum Di(x,z) Rule (i=3,4) for obtaining approximately optimum strata boundaries has been applied, taking into account a single-study variable along with two concomitant variables serving as the basis of the stratification variables. The relative efficiency of the proposed methods has been demonstrated theoretically and empirically by comparing them to a selection of already-existing methods in a simulation study with the use of the proportional allocation method.

Opis:
Objective: Lepidium sativum, commonly known as chandrashoor in India, has been used in the Indian traditional medicine system for the treatment of various diseases. The present study was undertaken to investigate the hypoglycemic effect of Lepidium sativum in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Materials and methods: Thirty (30) adult male Wistar rats weighing 157±51g were randomly assigned to five groups of six rats each as Normal control, Diabetic control, Diabetics supplemented with Lepidium sativum extract, Diabetics treated with insulin, and Normal rats supplemented with Lepidium sativum. All rats were fed with a normal laboratory diet, nutrient rich pellets, and had free access to drinking water. The rats were injected with streptozotocin at a dose of 45 mg/kg body weight intraperitoneally to induce diabetes. The extracts were then given orally to different groups of rats at a dose of 20mg/kg body weight for 16 days. Thereafter, the rats were sacrificed, and blood samples collected by cardiac puncture were used for the determination of Glucose, Creatinine, Alkaline Phosphatase, Cholesterol, Malondialdehyde level, % DPPH, and FRAP content. Results: Administration of lepidium extract showed a significant reduction in glucose, creatinine, and alkaline phosphatase levels. Elevated cholesterol level was restored approximately to normal; a significant decrease in malondialdehyde levels was also observed compared to diabetic controls. Conclusion: Lepidium sativum extract shows efficacy in the prevention and management of diabetes mellitus and its related complications.

Effects of human laterality, type of computer and noise on computer operators’ performance of a data entry task were investigated. Seven right- and 7 left-motorsided male subjects performed the task on desktop and laptop computers in a sitting posture under varying noise levels. The mean number of characters entered per minute was statistically analysed. The right-motorsided operators entered more data than left-motorsided ones at each noise level. Operators performed better on desktop computers. Operators’ performance decreased when noise level increased from 82 to 92 dB(A) but it improved at 102 dB(A). Effects of laterality, type of computer and noise, and the interaction between laterality and noise were statistically significant. The interactions between laterality and type of computer, and type of computer and noise were statistically insignificant. Laterality was statistically significant at all noise levels and noise was statistically significant for right motor-sided operators only.

The effects of human age, type of computer, and noise on computer operators’ performance of a data entry task were investigated. Twenty male subjects aged 10–55 were assigned into 4 age groups each consisting of 5 persons. They performed the task for 15 min on desktop and laptop computers in a sitting posture under varying levels of noise. The mean number of characters entered per minute (MNCEPM) was statistically analyzed. Operators in the 16–25 age group achieved the highest rate of data entry at each level of noise investigated. Operators performed better on desktop than on laptop computers. Their performance decreased when noise level increased from 82 to 92 dB(A), but it improved at 102 dB(A). The effects of age and noise were statistically significant. However, the effects of the type of computer, the interactions between age and type of computer, age and noise level, and type of computer and noise were not found to be statistically significant.

Opis:
Buffalopox (BPX) is a highly contagious disease that causes high morbidity and production losses in buffaloes. During this study, seroprevalence, effect of various associated risk factors, and pathological studies of BPX were recorded in the Punjab province. A total of 97 blood samples and 63 scabs were collected from clinically pox suspected buffaloes. Serum was harvested to perform single radial hemolysis to assess the seroprevalence, and scabs were subjected to PCR for BPX virus confirmation. Results revealed that, animal demographics and environmental associated factors showed significant effect (p<0.05,1<R2>0) on BPX occurrence. The overall BPX seroprevalence was recorded 4.18% in the Punjab province. The BPX was recorded 5.48% in Nili Ravi breed during winter (7.42%), aged 5-7 years (7.46%) under loose housing (5.51%) in the Faisalabad region (8.03%). Further, BPX was 5.37% in pregnant, 6.86% pregnant milking buffaloes during the 3rd lactation period (7.28%) in dairy herds (5.20%). The BPX was 5.22% in non-vaccinated buffaloes where multiple animals were reared together (4.99%) in the herds having 21-30 total number of animals. A total of 49 scab samples were found positive for the BPX virus via PCR with C18L gene amplification. Grossly, inflammatory lesions with pits in the center and wart-like nodules were seen on teats and udder of buffaloes. Increased leukocytes, especially neutrophils and lymphocytes, were seen in the blood of the infected animals. These results provide a broader window to understand the effect of associated risk factors, strengthen the diagnostic aid, and to contain the current spread of BPX in Pakistan to safeguard large ruminant-based livelihood.
