Opis:
This study examined the content analysis of the articles published in International Journal on Marine Navigation and Safety of Sea Transportation (TransNav). A content analysis was conducted for a 6‐year period from 2007 to 2012. The journal published 6 volumes, 24 issues and 401 articles since 2007. The articles were submitted by 637 authors from 49 different countries. A total of 401 research papers were analyzed in the sense of the author’s score, country and institution ranks of articles published in the TransNav Journal. In this study, no attempt was made to distinguish between departments, research centers, and agencies within an institution. The analyses were found that the authors from Poland made the most contribution to the journal. This shows that the journal should be more attractive for authors from other countries to enhance sending their scientific studies. This study also found that the journal mostly attends safety and security in sea transportation. Algorithms and methods are also widely included in the journal as a topic chapter.

Opis:
Ever growing energy industry requires larger quantities of LNG to be transported by bigger ships between terminals. Every day, new kind of large vessels created by new technologies, and these are used to trade around the globe. This is the dynamic change in shipping industry. But on the other hand these new vessels need to safely berth to existing terminals which we may accept as more static part of the trade. Thus this study born by the request of Ege Gaz Aliaga LNG Terminal management to determine if it is safe to berth to the terminal by a new breed of large LNG carrier type named as Q-Flex and Q-Max. Transas Bridge Simulator NTPRO 5000 series was used in this study for extensive experiments which had been simulated by the use of hook function. During the study, every force applied to mooring hooks and dolphins by the ship lines were divided into 3 dimensions and then measured by simulation experiments. With analysis of the data, required hook and dolphins strengths were determined for the safe mooring arrangements. Upon the completion of the study Ege Gaz Aliaga LNG Terminal became the first safe berth for Q-Flex type vessels in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. And finally all experiments were confirmed with real life experience when the first Q-Flex type LNG carrier berthed to the Ege Gaz Aliaga LNG Terminal.

Opis:
Automatic Identification System (AIS) data is used for monitoring the movements of vessels live movements through instant transmission of vessel information while, at the same time, historical AIS data is used for marine traffic analysis by researchers. There are several methods and computer programs developed for the analysis of marine traffic by the use of AIS data. Combining the intersection algorithm proposed by Antonio (1992) and distance calculation method, this study develops a method to analyse vessel distribution on a selected cross sectional line (SCS) in the Northern Aegean Sea. As a complementary to the new methods proposed, a desktop application is developed in C# programming language to visualize the vessel distribution on the SCS line. SQL server is used for AIS data storage and analysis. The study is conducted over 7-day AIS data, specifically 2.382.469 rows and 42.884.442 data in total, belonging to the Northern Aegean Sea marine traffic. As a result, the mapping of the movements of different types of vessels in the Northern Aegean Sea is effectively performed and Frequency-Distance, Draught-Distance, SOG-Distance, SOG-COG distributions on the SCS line are successfully analysed by the new method introduced.

Opis:
The aim of this study is to monitor the fluoride ion (F¯), as well as chloride ion (Cl¯), variation in the Eastern Black Sea Basin streams, and to evaluate drinking water quality of these streams, with reference to national and international directives and guidelines. The water samples (240) were semimonthly collected from three surface water resources, namely from the Değirmendere and Galyan streams in Trabzon Province, the biggest city on the Southeastern Black Sea Coast with a total population of 768 417, and the Harşit Stream in Gümüşhane and Giresun provinces. The monitoring results have revealed that the average F¯ concentration had varied between 0.154 and 0.200 mg/l in the Değirmendere Stream and between 0.156 and 0.163 mg/l in the Galyan Stream, respectively. However, the treated stream waters had lower F¯ concentrations, varying between 0.010 and 0.080 mg/l, than the untreated stream waters. In the Harşit Stream, the average F¯ concentrations were at relatively higher values, which ranged from 0.211 to 0.296 mg/l, in the uppermost stations, however showed a steadily decreasing trend throughout the lowermost stations and fell from 0.230 to 0.141 mg/l due to the hydropower dam reservoirs, namely Torul, Kürtün, and Akköy, operated in the watershed. The average Cl¯ concentrations have varied between 2.00 and 6.48 mg/l. On the one hand, the waters from the Değirmendere, Galyan, and Harşit streams are classified as high quality, considering the upper threshold values of 1.5 mg F¯/l and 250 mg Cl¯/l. On the other hand, these streams can be regarded as the fluoride-poor water resources.
