Taking over power in the country, the Polish Committe of National Liberation set up the Department of Culture and Arts which was later transformed into a ministry. From its beginning the institution started setting up its regional offi ces. Since it had no pre-war tradition, it encountered a variety of obstacles. Besides, some of its competences doubled with those of other ministries. The article discusses the activities of the Culture and Arts Department of the Lublin Regional Offi ce, which was later renamed the Department of Culture of the Presidium of the Regional National Council. It shows the masures taken to reconstruct cultural life in the local areas, initial support for local government initiative and the consequences of central administration. Th e article also deals with the training of staff and the personel policy of the government.

The article describes the post-war reconstruction of the system of agricultural education at the primary and secondary level as well as organisation of vocational courses in the Lublin school district. All levels of education were made available to both young and adult learners. The article also contains a description of the organisational and legal transformation of the educational system starting from the national level and going down to the level of local communities (Polish: gmina). It is followed by a general discussion of changes in the curriculum which took place at the time. The presented system was intended to raise the qualifi cations of peants, however its primary aim was to recruit supporters for the new authorities and for the transormations in agriculture.

The article presents the changes that had taken place in the structure of post war education system using as an example Tomaszów region. It explains the way in which the communist's slogan "We fight illiteracy” was used to gain support for the new ruting party. Deliberately chosen educational texts were gloryfying USSR and condemning the pre-war Poland. The article presents also difficulties that regional authorities had with putting government instructions into practice. All the work undertaken was aimed on aksjological desorientation and frustration of the society.

Opis:
The article discusses the reconstruction and then liquidation of area departments of art and culture. In the period directly after the war they supported the spontaneous revival of amateur and semi-professional theatres. Through their drama activity amateur actors got rid of the mental tension accumulated in the period of Nazi occupation. Their work also brought financial benefits, which they used for various community initiatives. Starting form 1947 the government tended to limit this kind of cultural activity by making it to difficult to register it with the regional authorities, imposing taxes and shaping a reportoir which did not satisfy the audiences. In the 1950’s so called amateur theatre groups were under strict control and functioned only thanks to government subsidies.

Opis:
Dysfunction of fast axonal transport, vital for motor neurons, may lead to neurodegeneration. Anterograde transport is mediated by N-kinesins (KIFs), while retrograde transport by dynein 1 and, to a minor extent, by C-kinesins. In our earlier studies we observed changes in expression of N- and C-kinesins (KIF5A, 5C, C2) in G93ASOD1-linked mouse model of motor neuron degeneration. In the present work we analyze the profile of expression of the same kinesins in mice with a dynein 1 heavy chain mutation (Dync1h1, called Cra1), presenting similar clinical symptoms, and in Cra1/SOD1 mice with milder disease progression than SOD1 transgenics. We found significantly higher levels of mRNA for KIF5A and KIF5C but not the KIFC2 in the frontal cortex of symptomatic Cra1/+ mice (aged 365 days) compared to the wild-type controls. No changes in kinesin expression were found in the spinal cord of any age group and only mild changes in the hippocampus. The expression of kinesins in the cerebellum of the presymptomatic and symptomatic mice (aged 140 and 365 days, respectively) was much lower than in age-matched controls. In Cra1/SOD1 mice the changes in KIFs expression were similar or more severe than in the Cra1/+ groups, and they also appeared in the spinal cord. Thus, in mice with the Dync1h1 mutation, which impairs dynein 1-dependent retrograde transport, expression of kinesin mRNA is affected in various structures of the CNS and the changes are similar or milder than in mice with double Dync1h1/hSOD1G93A mutations.
