    Opis:
    The Catholicism in Sweden with all its rich historical and social structure is also constituted by the influence of the male orders on the spirituality, religiosity and everyday life of Christians in Sweden. These communities could not continue their activities after the Reformation. They returned, however, and came to life slowly and gradually, simultaneously with the advancing religious tolerance. As of today many orders in the Catholic Church are committed to social and pastoral challenges on Swedish soil, both in the catholic communities and in broader social circles. Their extensive past is closely bound with the difficult past of Catholicism in Sweden and the contemporary issues of postmodern society.

    The emigration phenomenon holds many aspects that present an interesting field of sociological, psychological and cultural studies. One of the characteristics of this phenomenon is the need to unite in order to protect common values, identity, rights and the wish to share important issues with members of the same cultural, professional or religious society. The Polish emigrant group in Sweden has its own traditions and clear results in this field. Starting with the interwar period, through the post-war period and the time of ideological war with socialism, the initiatives both from the patriots and those who sympathized with the regime were very lively. Polish Catholics in Sweden holds a high place among the well organized societies. The following article is an attempt to capture that part of life of Polish emigrants in Sweden, which shows society commitment and other similar initiatives.

    One of the minor constituents of the Catholic Church which for a considerable amount of time remained at the border, in the Diaspora, and was isolated from the Holy See, due to the overtaking of this particular Christian community by the religious-political currents of the Reformation, is the Catholic community in Scandinavia. Since two centuries ago awareness is reviving successively and a need for a return to unity is growing, still, it is a laborious and, it would seem, a long-term process. After the reformation movement’s complete take-over of the Church structure in Scandinavia, a Church remaining in unity with the Pope practically ceased to exist. However, before long, there appeared several signs of activities in favour of restoring the union with the Holy See. For the pre- sent, there are Catholic Church structures in all Scandinavia, where the constituting countries: Den- mark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Island have their own diocese, bishops, priests and nuns who carry on evangelical and charity activities, their own religious movements that developed out of the currents and the environment of the teachings of the Second Vatican Council and their own believ- ers who consciously practice the principles of the Christian faith. The specifics of Scandinavia in relation to the Catholic population is that its structure is composed of many different nationalities, nations, cultures, rites and customs despite the small number of people. Consequently, there arises a problem of finding a wise way towards unity, so that a new, overall quality respecting the different diversities will emerge. Doomed to this creative process, among the existential dilemmas deriving from cultural diversity, the community of the Catholic Church in Sweden remains in a continuing process of finding its identity. The following article tries to describe this population in the context of its most characteristic feature – cultural diversity.

    The migration phenomenon always entails various consequences. There is a large sensitivity and understanding of this phenomenon within the interest and care of the Catholic Church. The current external and internal tendencies creating circumstances leading to isolation of migrants and marginalizing their presence, should be, in accordance with the teaching of the Church, overcome so that everyone, especially the young immigrants, could come to terms with his new environment, new country and culture, so that he will be able to realize his life plans and devote his time to those who constitute his new social network within the Christian community. The Catholic Church in Sweden, among its many initiatives and suggestions, tries, with different effects, to create a suitable climate for young immigrants’ integration anticipating it being the right way of building a Catholic community in a society indoctrinated by environments hostile to culture, history and catholic tradition and of the Catholic Church. The following article is an attempt to present the initiatives of the Catholic Church in Sweden in their efforts to achieve cultural integration of young immigrants with the help of Sveriges Unga Katoliker (Swedish Young Catholics) organization within its own activities and by way of cooperation with parishes and national missions

    The following article treats the necessity of cooperation between Catholic parishes and national missions in Sweden – for the benefit of the immigrants. The analysis includes the status of these two fundamental institutions of pastoral care in the administrative structure of the Catholic Church. Some thought has also been given to the possibilities and difficulties arising from the fact that the cross-section of the society constituting the Catholic community in Sweden is multicultural, as well as to the level of awareness of building a difficult unity as a necessary requirement for the transmission of Christian values to the next generation.

    Among the many threads of social life in Sweden there is one that not so commonly known, almost imperceptible current in the community of the Catholic Church. It concerns the process of rebirth or the creation of new female orders or female protestant ecumenical societies with similar goals and aims. This phenomenon has a broad and interesting sociological and psychological background. The migration phenomenon researcher is here fascinated by the fact that in a country with a highly developed emancipation and feministic awareness, where the women are perfect models of liberation, more and more there are cases of women’s self fulfillment in a completely different way of life. The rebirth of female religious orders is a sign of the times in a welfare society. It points to the truth that the material and social structures do not provide the modern woman with a possibility to fulfillment of her most inner human wishes.

    The main task of religious and social work among immigrants is to preach the Word of God and it is to this end that all other forms of activity should be directed. The author attempts to analyze how and by what methods the Polish Catholic Mission in Sweden has been accomplishing this task for 60 years. Drawing on previous experience and listening to the current needs of the faithful, Polish pastoral care in Sweden continues to explore and use new opportunities. In addition to the traditional, proven forms recommended by the Catholic Church to proclaim the word of God, such as homilies and sermons, the catechesis of adults, children and adolescents, the Polish pastoral care in Sweden also uses modern forms of communicating the message of salvation such as the Catholic press on the Internet, audio books, e-books and encouraging the faithful to listen to catechesis in MP3 format.
