    If nature and cosmos are the expression of the beauty of the Creator and bring us to the threshold of a contemplative silence, artistic creation possesses its own capacity to evoke the ineffable aspects of the mystery of God. For the believer, beauty transcends the aesthetics and finds its archetype in God. The contemplation of the eternal beauty is the living source from which the Christian composers take inspiration to speak of the mystery of God. Works of sacred music inspired by the Christian faith posses an enormous potential pertinent to contemporary needs that remain unaltered by the times that pass. In an intuitive and tasteful manner, they permit participation in the great experience of faith, the meeting with God in the face of Christ in whom he uncovers the mystery of the love of God and the identity of man. With the language of beauty, Christian musicwork does not only transmit the message of the artist, but also the truth of the mystery of God meditated by a person who reads it to us, not to glorify himself but to glorify the Source. The beauty of the liturgy, an essential moment in the experience of faith and the pathway towards the adult faith, is unable to reduce itself to mere formal beauty. It is, first of all, the deep beauty of the meeting with the mystery of God. Superficiality, banality and negligence have no place in the liturgical music. They definitely do not help the believers progress on his path of faith but, above all, damage those who attend Christian celebrations. Beauty is seen as fundamental to faith and to the perception of truth. Via pulchritudinis as the way of beauty in sacred music is the finest expression of faith, hope and love.
    Jeśli natura i kosmos są odblaskiem piękna Stwórcy i prowadzą nas do kontemplacji Jego wielkości, to również twórczość artystyczna ma możliwość przybliżania nas do tajemnicy Boga. Dla człowieka wierzącego piękno wykracza poza estetykę i odnajduje swój archetyp w Bogu. Kontemplacja odwiecznej piękności jest źródłem, z którego kompozytorzy chrześcijańscy czerpią natchnienie, aby ukazywać w swej twórczości misterium Boga. Inspirowane wiarą chrześcijańską dzieła muzyki sakralnej pozwalają nam w intuicyjny sposób uczestniczyć w doświadczeniu wiary, odkrywając tajemnicę miłości Boga i tożsamości człowieka. Posługując się językiem piękna, dzieła muzyczne są nie tylko nośnikami przesłania artysty, ale także prawdy o Bogu. Kompozytor, ukazując ową prawdę, nie wychwala samego siebie, ale pragnie uwielbiać Źródło Piękna. W liturgii, będącej istotnym momentem w doświadczaniu dojrzałej wiary, piękna nie można zredukować jedynie do formalnego estetyzmu. Jest to przede wszystkim głębokie piękno spotkania z tajemnicą Boga. Dlatego w muzyce liturgicznej nie ma miejsca na powierzchowność, banalność i niedbałość. Muzyka nie pomagałaby wówczas w rozwoju wiary, ale wręcz stawałaby się przeszkodą w godnym uczestniczeniu w chrześcijańskich obrzędach. Piękno stanowi zatem jedną z fundamentalnych kategorii teologicznych, pomagając wzrastać w wierze oraz dążyć do prawdy. Istotną rolę ewangelizacyjną pełni w tym kontekście muzyka sakralna, która jako via pulchritudinis stanowi wspaniały wyraz wiary, nadziei i miłości.

    “The way of beauty” in Bruno Forte’s view appears to be experienced faith or life in the horizon of faith. Beauty, as a category connected with the attitude of love, is a moving, dynamic value. Understood in this way beauty of love till the end can be discovered in the icon of the Beautiful Shepherd – the Crucified Christ. In this personal fragment of history the entirety of the Mystery comes to us – God, who is Love (cf. 1 John 4, 8.16). The love that is cognized is the driving force: love demands a reply of gratefulness. This responsorial character of love that should be characteristic of every Christian, can be first of all seen in Mary – All Beautiful, a transparen Icon of the Mystery. Contemplation of Christ’s face (following Her example of in Her), to which Blessed John Paul II encouraged the faithful (cf. NMI 25), leads to a transformation of the person and the world of persons, as it is entering the way of beauty, whose end is beauty of the person and beauty of the world. For “beauty will save the world” (F. Dostoyevsky).

    Jedną z przyczyn współczesnego kryzysu kulturowego są procesy sekularyzacyjne. Wywierają one wpływ na wiele aspektów życia indywidualnego i społecznego, których odzwierciedleniem jest sfera sztuki. Twórczość artystyczna jest nie tylko obrazem ludzkiej egzystencji, ale także wyrazem tęsknoty i dążenia do tego, co wykracza poza doczesność. Potwierdzają to wielkie arcydzieła, które pomimo, iż powstały przed wiekami ciągle nas zachwycają, gdyż ich twórcy czerpali inspirację z piękna chrześcijańskiej wiary. Współczesne odejście od  Boga przyjmuje różne formy – od sekularyzmu, który radykalnie neguje rzeczywistość nadprzyrodzoną aż po desekularyzację z jej „nową duchowością”, będącą często nieokreślonym spirytualizmem w stylu New Age. W tej perspektywie sztuka sakralna, zamiast ulegać presji zeświecczenia, winna na nowo odnaleźć swoją tożsamość jako ważny element nowej ewangelizacji. Wobec dzisiejszego człowieka, który zagubił niejednokrotnie drogę do Boga, sztuka jako via pulchritudinis spełni wówczas misję ewangelizacyjną, stając się pełnym nadziei ukazywaniem sensu, jaki nadaje naszemu życiu tajemnica zbawczej miłości Chrystusa.
    Secular processes are one of the reasons of the contemporary cultural crisis. They influence many aspects of individual and social life which is reflected in the sphere of art. Artistic activity is not only a picture of human existence, but also an expression of longing and desire for what exceeds wordliness. Great masterpieces, in spite of being created many centuries ago, confirm this, as they do not stop to delight us because their creators were inspired by the beauty of Christian faith. The contemporary departure from God takes different forms - from securalizatiom which radically denies the supernatural reality to desecularization with its "new spirituality", being quite often an indefinite spiritualism in the New Age style. In this perspective, sacred art, instead of surrendering to the secularization pressure, should find its new identity as an important element of the new evangelization. Art as via pulchritudinis is to continue to fulfill its evangelizing mission for modern man who so often loses his way to God. It will then become for us a meaning full of hope which human life receives from the mystery of Christ’s redeeming love.
    Eine der Ursache der heutigen Kulturkrise sind Säkularisierungsprozesse. Sie beeinflussen viele von jenen Aspekten des individuellen und gesellschaftlichen Lebens, die ihren Wiederhall in der Kunst finden. Die künstlerische Tätigkeit ist nicht nur das Abbild der menschlichen Existenz, sondern sie spiegelt auch die Sehnsucht und Suche nach dem wider, das die diesseitige Existenz übersteigt. Dies wird an großen Meisterwerken sichtbar, welche ‒ obwohl sie vor Jahrhunderten entstanden sind ‒  immer noch beeindrucken, weil ihre Schöpfer die Inspiration aus der Schönheit des christlichen Glaubens geschöpft hatten. Das gegenwärtige Weggehen von Gott nimmt verschiedene Formen an: von einem Säkulkarismus, der die übernatürliche Wirklichkeit radikal in Frage stellt, bis hin zur Desakralisierung mit ihrer "neuen Spiritualität", die nicht selten zu einem unbestimmten New-Age-artigen Spiritualismus verkümmert. In dieser Perspektive muss die sakrale Kunst, statt dem Laizisierungsdruck nachzugeben, ihre Identität als ein wichtiges Element der Neuevangelisierung wiederfinden. Gegenüber dem heutigen Menschen, der nicht selten den Weg zu Gott verloren hat, wird die Kunst als via pulchritudinis eine Evangelisierungsmission spielen können, indem sie den hoffnugsvollen Sinn darstellt, der unserem Leben das Gehemnis der erlösenden Liebe Christi verleiht.

    The recently published Directory for Catechesis by the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelisation is the handbook for all those who are involved in the catechetical ministry, ranging from Bishops and Bishops’ Conferences to pastors, priests and lay catechists. This article seeks to take a pastoral glance at the Directory which offers a vision for catechesis which is founded on the theology of Evangelii Gaudium, with an openness to a more kerygmatic catechesis. Moreover, the Directory seeks to situate catechesis within the contemporary digital culture, whilst not neglecting traditional stances such as the Catechumenate and mystagogy. The Directory also taps into innovative methodological aids such as the value given to the way of beauty.
    Ostatnio opublikowane przez Papieską Radę ds. Krzewienia Nowej Ewangelizacji Dyrektorium o katechizacji jest podręcznikiem dla wszystkich, którzy są zaangażowani w posługę katechetyczną, począwszy od biskupów i konferencji biskupich, poprzez proboszczów, kapłanów, aż po katechetów świeckich. Niniejszy artykuł jest próbą pastoralnego spojrzenia na Dyrektorium, które proponuje wizję katechezy opartą na teologii Evangelii Gaudium, z otwartością na katechezę bardziej kerygmatyczną. Ponadto Dyrektorium stara się umiejscowić katechezę w obrębie współczesnej kultury cyfrowej, nie zaniedbując przy tym tradycyjnych podstaw, takich jak katechumenat i mistagogia. Dyrektorium sięga także po nowatorskie pomoce metodologiczne, takie jak dowartościowanie drogi piękna.

    The tea ceremony (chanoyu) is one of the representative Japanese traditional arts. It derives from tencha and tentō, meaning making tea as an offering. In the history of the tea ceremony, the efflorescence of the Way of Tea namely sadō, was led by Murata Jukō (1423–1502) who pursued the heart of tea. The Way of Tea he aimed at was nothing but the way that associates tea with the heart, in other words, shincha (tea of heart) and zencha (tea of Zen). Jukō preferred a calm and simple tea style rather than the showy tea-parties that were popular at the time, and carried out radical reforms. Later, Takeno Jōō (1502–1555) and Sen no Rikyū (1522–1591) inherited the way Jukō started. Jōō simplified the tea inherited from Jukō, and Rikyū furthered the change. Rikyū filtered out the space and preferred the smallest tearoom, a space that has only two tatami mats. Not only the tearoom but also the garden of a teahouse roji, utensils, manners and movements, especially the heart of tea were reconsidered and developed by Rikyū. He finally established the new style of tea called wabicha. More than 400 years after Rikyū’s death, tea people still believe that the aesthetics of yō no bi (the beauty of use), fukanzen no bi (the incomplete beauty) and kiyome (purification) are the immutable essences of the Way of Tea. Although we cannot describe everything about tea with only these three keywords, I shall focus on studying these three aesthetics in the four different fields given: the garden of a teahouse, the tearoom, the utensils, and making tea.

    God is the foundation and goal of man. The way to God, from the state of disgrace to a happy relationship with God, is also the “foundation” of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, including the Foundation. In the Foundation there is a Neoplatonic way to God as absolute Good− Truth−Beauty. The spiritual way, continued in Weeks of the Ignatian retreat, includes the stages of purification, enlightenment and unification. This way is thus also an existential principle present in Christian Neoplatonism, having its reception in all cycle of Ignatian Exercises. The article to concern the relationship between the theology of the Foundation and Christian Neoplatonism, with reference to the whole of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola.
    Bóg jest fundamentem i celem człowieka. Droga do Boga, od stanu niełaski do uszczęśliwiającej więzi z Bogiem, stanowi także osnowę ignacjańskich Ćwiczeń duchownych, w tym inicjującego je Fundamentu. W Fundamencie kryje się neoplatońska droga ku absolutnemu Dobru−Prawdzie− Pięknu, czyli ku Bogu. Duchowa droga, kontynuowana w Tygodniach rekolekcji ignacjańskich, obejmuje etapy: oczyszczenia, oświecenia i zjednoczenia. Droga ta jest zatem również egzystencjalną zasadą obecną w chrześcijańskim neoplatonizmie, mającą swoją recepcję w całym cyklu ignacjańskich Ćwiczeń. Artykuł dotyczy związku między teologią Fundamentu a chrześcijańskim neoplatonizmem, w odniesieniu do całokształtu Ćwiczeń duchownych.

    Artykuł przedstawia drogę życia i dokonania papieża Benedykta XVI. Ukazuje go jako wybitnego teologa liturgii i muzyki. Ważne jest zatrzymanie się nad nadaniem doktoratu honoris causa Uniwersytetu Papieskiego w Krakowie, by zwieńczyć jego osobistym testamentem duchowym i przesłaniem nadziei. W krótkim przedstawieniu nie da się ukazać wielkości i ogromu dokonań tak wyjątkowego człowieka dla Kościoła, ale też i całego świata. W niniejszym tekście zostało to jedynie zasygnalizowane. Wszak mowa o wybitnym teologu, wytrwanym liturgiście i muzyku, obrońcy wiary katolickiej i jej przejrzystości, skromnym robotniku Winnicy Pańskiej oraz wiernym przyjacielu Oblubieńca – jak powiedział o nim następca. Jest jednak pewne, że jeszcze przez wiele lat, a może nawet dziesięciolecia, będzie można odczytywać jego duchowe przesłanie, a być może kiedyś otrzyma tytuł doktora Kościoła, który z całą pewnością będzie mu zupełnie należny
    This article presents the way of life and the achievements of Pope Benedict XVI, showing him as an outstanding theologian of liturgy and music. It was also important to reflect on his honoris causa doctorate granted to him by the Pontifical University in Cracow. The article finishes with Benedict XVI’s spiritual testament and message of hope. It was not easy to present in such a short form the immense scale of the achievements of this extraordinary man, so beneficial for the Church and for the whole world. The following text merely outlines the above, for the subject concerns a remarkable theologian, proficient liturgist and musician, defender of Catholic faith and her transparency, humble worker in the Lord’s vineyard and the faithful friend of the Bridegroom – as recalled by his successor. And it seems certain that in the next years, even in the following decades we will still be reading his spiritual message, or maybe one day this great Pontiff shall be accorded the title of the Doctor of the Church, so well deserved.
