    The article discusses two texts. One is A Brief Stop on a Road from Auschwitz, a post memorial, non-fictional prose by Göran Rosenberg, the other – My Name is not Miriam, a novel by Majgull Axelsson. The main characters of these stories are Holocaust survivors, who after the war reach Sweden with the help of the local Red Cross. The article attempts to discover the intricate intersections between the concepts of space, time, trauma, memory and identity, as experienced during their migration.

    W artykule przedstawiono telewizyjny obraz kryzysu migracyjnego na polskim odcinku granicy Unii Europejskiej i Republiki Białorusi na przełomie sierpnia i września 2021 roku ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zjawiska polaryzacji w polskich mediach audiowizualnych. Badanie analizuje przekaz newsowy serwisów informacyjnych trzech polskich nadawców telewizyjnych: Wiadomości TVP, Wydarzeń Polsatu i Faktów TVN. Do analizy zawartości materiałów newsowych w badanym okresie wykorzystano metody: jakościową, ilościową i porównawczą. Badanie pozwoliło na zidentyfikowanie różnic w przekazach informacyjnych najważniejszych polskich serwisów informacyjnych poświęconych tej sprawie przy wykorzystaniu teorii framingu i agenda setting. Zidentyfikowane przez autorkę różnice w badanych materiałach newsowych ujawniły się przede wszystkim w podejściu redakcji do kolejności prezentowania wybranych treści, w warstwach werbalnej i wizualnej newsów dotyczących migrantów oraz sposobie komentowania materiałów konkurencyjnych stacji przez poszczególne konkurujące między sobą redakcje. Wyniki analizy zawartości pozwalają również uzyskać wgląd w rodzaj procesów polaryzacyjnych w mediach audiowizualnych w Polsce.
    The article presents a television image of the migration crisis that took place on the Polish section of the border between the EU and the Republic of Belarus at the turn of August and September 2021, with a particular focus on the phenomenon of polarization in Polish audiovisual media. The study analyses the news coverage of the news services of the three largest Polish television broadcasters: Wiadomości TVP, Wydarzenia Polsat and Fakty TVN. The following methods were used in the analysis of the content of television news: qualitative, quantitative and comparative. The study made it possible to identify (using the framing theory and agenda setting) fundamental differences in the information provided by the most critical tv broadcasters in Poland devoted to this issue. The differences identified by the author were revealed primarily in the editors’ approach to the order in which selected content was presented, in the verbal and visual layer of news about migrants, and in the manner of commenting on the materials of competing stations by individual competing editorial offices. The results of the content analysis provide also insight into the type of polarizing processes in the audiovisual media in Poland.

    Artykuł dotyczy problemów tożsamości, poetyki miejsca i migracji oraz podróży w poezji Adama Zagajewskiego z tomów Jechać do Lwowa (Londyn 1985) i Ziemia ognista (Poznań 1994) oraz w prozie Andrzeja Stasiuka na przykładzie opowiadania Miejsce (Opowieści galicyjskie, Kraków 1995) i powieści Wschód (Wołowiec 2014). Autorka, odwołując się do wybranych tekstów obydwu twórców, prezentuje sposoby ukazywania przestrzeni w literaturze polskiej przełomu XX i XXI wieku naznaczonej doświadczeniem migracji i komunizmu. Szkic analityczno-interpretacyjny zawiera także uwagi związane z organizacją procesu dydaktycznego, ponieważ omawiane tutaj utwory mogą być inspiracją do mówienia o procesach migracyjnych i wielokulturowości na lekcjach języka polskiego w szkole średniej.
    The article deals with the problems of identity, poetics of place, migration and travel in Adam Zagajewski’s poetry, in the volumes: Going to Lvov (London 1985) and The Land of Fire (Poznań 1994); as well as in Andrzej Stasiuk’s prose: the short story Place (Tales of Galicia, Kraków 1995) and the novel The East (Wołowiec 2014). The author, in invoking selected texts by the above artists, presents ways of portraying space in Polish literature of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, marked by the experiences of migration and communism. This analytical and interpretative study also includes remarks concerning the organisation of the teaching process, as the works discussed here may be used as inspiration for discussions related to migration processes and multiculturalism during Polish language lessons at high school levels.

    Jerzy Domaradzki started to work in Australia after his film Wielki bieg [ The Great Race ] had been presented at a film festival in Sydney. During those first years he had been mainly teach- ing at a film school, but after some time he began to make feature films and documentaries.     This article focuses on the question of the involvement of contemporary artists in the public debate concerning boundary issues relating to migration and the treatment of immigrants. The aim of this essay is to take a closer look at some of their strategies for making the boundary issue more visible and their ability to draw our attention to the situation of excluded minorities, such as “clandestines” and refugees. The object of the study is, in particular, the way in which these artists address the question of the international migration process in the modern “open”, “ostensibly borderless” world, and the socio-political problems it generates. The effect of the border-crossing experience on the life of an immigrant, the image attached to him or her by the “host” society, as well as the artistic reflections on EU institutions and the hospitality of contemporary European societies are also included in the author’s analysis.

    The experiences and migration strategies of senior migrants differ significantly from those of their younger counterparts. However, since migration flows are dominated by younger migrants, the recent Polish migration discourse tends to present the younger migrants’ perspective. This article addresses this research gap by exploring the migration experience of older Polish migrants to the United Kingdom (UK). The types of older migrants currently living in the UK are discussed: namely those who have lived in the UK for several decades and those who have migrated late in life. The experiences and attitudes of both groups are then explored and compared in order to expose several assumptions concerning older migrants: the immobility of seniors; the vulnerability of older migrants; and seniors migrating exclusively as part of care networks. The article is based on qualitative research conducted in the UK in 2005–2009 and in 2017.

    The paper is an attempt to present the ways of functioning of the migration is-sue in the latest Polish literature for children and young people, which uses a certain universal topos, namely the home and narratives related to hospitality, when presenting the phenomenon studied. Such a problematised view of the is-sue is inscribed in the reflection on intercultural education, under the patron-age of the philosophy of love and compassion represented by Martha Nuss-baum. The assumptions of the humanistic philosophy of love will be confront-ed with the (pre-)school and school practice preparing children to meet the Other.

    In the global economy based on knowledge it is metropolises that determine the region’s developmental potential. These are the regions of high population density and of diverse levels of life quality. Apart from intrapersonal and interpersonal features it is also environmental factors that impact on the likelihood of someone participating in physical recreation Recognizing characteristic features determining different forms of motor activity, their frequency together with the structure of recreational migrations is crucial in the process of planning and organizing recreational system in cities and metropolises. Therefore, the purpose of the following study is to determine the level of participation in recreational activity of the inhabitants of Poznań metropolis, together with the analysis of selected factors of demographic, social and economic character that have a differentiating effect onto this activity. In the study 1584 inhabitants of Poznań metropolis were examined by 5 professional interviewers between March and June 2016 by means of a standardized questionnaire. The conducted studies proved high diversification of recreational activity of the inhabitants of the Poznań Metropolis and substantiated the directional hypotheses. The obtained results made it possible to identify the groups of inhabitants who participate in recreational activity regularly, seasonally and occasionally. Moreover, the demographic, social and economic variables made it possible to identify a group of inhabitants who are extremely passive or participate in motor recreation very rarely.

    W znanej koncepcji relacji miejsca do przestrzeni Yi Fu Tuan (1987) dostrzeżono, że przestrzeń i miejsce wzajemnie się splatają. Minione dziesięciolecia, a zwłaszcza doświadczenia współczesnego, mobilnego świata spowodowały, że relację przestrzeni i miejsca należy ponownie zdefiniować. Miejsce nie jest już trwałe, oparte na historycznych odniesieniach, na pamięci własnej i przodków, na więziach społecznych i interakcjach przebiegających w jednej przestrzeni i czasie. W tekście postawiono tezę, że zmiana miejsca pobytu na skutek coraz większej mobilności współczesnego świata nie skazuje migrantów na zerwanie więzi z miejscem dotychczasowym. Staje się ono (na podstawie proponowanego przez Creswella rozumienia, 2004) lokalizacją otwartą i dynamiczną, to jest taką, która się tworzy, jest otwarta na innych i opiera się na wielu różnych historiach. W interpretacji odniesiono się do koncepcji transnarodowości i przykładu rodziny transnarodowej, które tworzą nową przestrzeń do życia rodzinnego w rozłące przestrzennej.
    Yi Fu Tuan’s well known idea of relation between space and place (1987) depicts them as being mutually entwined. Nevertheless, past decades of increasing mobility resulted in the need of redefining the thus far known perception of space and place relation. The place is no longer discerned as permanent, it is based neither on historical references, nor on one's own memory and the memory of one's ancestors, nor on social bonds and interactions occurring in a specific space and at a specific time. The text’s thesis assumes that changing the place of residence due to the escalating mobility of contemporary world does not necessarily result in breaking the bonds with the previous location. Basing on the Creswell’s understanding of the matter (2004), the previous location becomes an open and dynamic place, which is still being created and is available for other people. This location is built upon multiple and various stories.  In the following document the author pertains to the concept of transnationality and to the example of transnational families that create new space for family life in spatial separation.

    Współcześnie pojęcie hotelu robotniczego, a w mniejszym stopniu domu młodego robotnika kojarzy się z peerelowskimi zakładami pracy. W PRL rozwój pracowniczej przestrzeni hotelowej związany był głównie z migracją ludności ze wsi do ośrodków miejsko-przemysłowych. Migranci zarobkowi szukali pracy w dużych miastach wojewódzkich lub w rozbudowywanych okręgach przemysłowych (np. Górny Śląsk). Nie inaczej było w przypadku regionu Kujaw i Pomorza, gdzie największy napływ ludności notowano w miastach silnie uprzemysłowionych, to jest Bydgoszczy, Toruniu, Włocławku, Grudziądzu i Inowrocławiu. Artykuł porusza problematykę organizacji i kontroli życia społecznego w hotelach zakładowych. Obraz robotników przebywających w miejscach zbiorowego zakwaterowania pokazany jest na tle programów ideowo-wychowawczych tudzież skali ich realizacji. W tekście zaprezentowano także codzienność hotelową odartą już z przekazu propagandowego, odsłaniająca rzeczywistą jakość wypoczynku pracowniczego w opisywanych miejscach.
    At present, the concept of a workers’ hostel (hotel robotniczy) and to a lesser extent of a young worker’s home (dom młodego robotnika) is closely associated with the communist period of the People’s Republic of Poland. It is often identified with large construction sites and dynamic labour fluctuation, as well as mismanagement, notorious untidiness, and noisy drinking bouts and brawls. In the conditions of state socialism, workers’ hostels were to fulfil the role of a substitute for a permanent flat for out-of-town workers until they were allotted their own home. The actual situation was more complex, which resulted primarily from the difficult state in the house building sector. This article presents the problems of organization and control of social life in factory hostels. The image of a worker staying in collective lodgings is presented in the light of ideological and educational programmes as well as the scale of their implementation. Moreover, the daily life in hostels is presented, devoid of their propaganda messages, creating the actual quality of labour rest in the described places.
