Appointments to the Inflanty (Livonia) Bishoprics in the years 1385–1466Contrary to Prussia, the mediaeval Livonia was not a state belonging to the Teutonic Order but it constituted a certain kind of political community consisting of territorial communities ruled by the Order, the archbishops of Riga and the bishops of Dorpat, Ozyl and Kurland (the bishops of Rewl had no lay authority). Following the Prussian model, the bishops tried to retain their independence. From the perspective of this competition within Livonia, the issue of appointments of bishops to bishopric sees, seems tremendously important, as exerting an influence on the above appointments constituted one of the tools used by the Order in its attempt to subjugate the whole of Livonia. In the period 1385–1466, we are dealing with the pontificates of as many as thirty bishops in the five Livonia bishoprics. Half of them belonged to the Teutonic Order. The Order carefully watched over the appointments to the Livonia bishoprics soliciting the popes to support its candidates, rather than those elected by the Livonia bishopric chapters. The Teutonic Order exerted the greatest influence on the appointments of bishops in the Kurland and Rewal dioceses. In the remaining three dioceses, and above all in the Riga one, there were frequent disputes over the appointments involving the Order and the bishopric chapters. The majority of the Livonia bishops in the period under discussion came from Livonia and Prussia (from the local towns and knighthood); far fewer of them came from the territories of the German Reich. In respect of their earlier functions, many of them had held the posts of canons in the Livonia and Prussia dioceses or else were associated with the authorities of the Teutonic Order through earlier cooperation or even family ties. In most cases, promotion to bishopric sees was the effect of papal provision, rather than election carried out by bishopric chapter. Several factors exerted an influence on the appointments of bishops to bishopric sees. Apart from the Teutonic Order, it was the popes as well as the Livonia social classes that had the greatest say in this matter.

The Methodology of Occupational Activity Support for People with Functional Capacity Limitations Summary Modern demographic challenges – longer lifespan and the prolonged period of potential professional activity are related to the increased risk of limiting the functional capacities as a result of age or disability. The methodology of supporting the occupational activity of people with functional capacity limitations, presented in the study, comprises a set of instruments which provide support to people with functional deficits within the ergonomics paradigm – the mutual adjustment of a person and work. The aforementioned methodology makes use of the occupational therapy perspective – the holistic approach to a person experiencing difficulties and providing support to both the person themselves as well as the environment in which the person functions. The goal of the methodology is to offer an approach to people with functional capacity limitations which would make it possible to select professions and job positions in such a way that performing such work is safe and effective. In the study, the author presents the evaluations of a person’s functional capacities with a particular focus on the FCE method (Functional Capacity Evaluation) and the requirements imposed by work. In its foundations, the methodology fully addresses the needs of people with functional limitations; it provides an individualised and comprehensive approach to such a person. The instruments are of universal character and can be used by all people experiencing some professional difficulties within the paradigm of universal design. Apart from the discussion of the theoretical foundations of the methodology offered, its pilot implementation in the Pomeranian Competences Center in Gdańsk is also presented. The results of the multi-aspectual study of the effects of the implemented model confirm that this methodology is a useful element of the social support system, thereby contributing to the prevention of excluding older or people with disability from the labour market. The study stakeholders – the employees of public employment services, employers, people performing the functional capacity diagnosis and, most 222 Summary of all, people who were provided with the support in the Pomeranian Competences Center regarded the tested instruments as useful; moreover, the measured employment and economic efficiency of the methodology turned out to be very high. The methodology, verified in such a way, is a solution which is ready to be implemented; a solution which should become an element of the social support system, combining the support provided by public employment services with the system of social insurance and vocational rehabilitation.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono sylwetkę i życiorys plut. Antoniego Jacha „Ryś” (1914-1987), który w trakcie II wojny światowej służył w 6. pułku artylerii lekkiej i był później podoficerem i plutonowym aprowizacji dla oddziału AK „Wicher”. Opisano krótko jego dzieciństwo i młodość oraz kilka najważniejszych akcji wojennych, w których uczestniczył, m.in. spalenie tartaku w Kłaju, uwolnienie dwóch Rosjanek z transportu do Oświęcimia, sporządzenie planów prochowni w Kłaju. Autor opisał także jego powojenną działalność w antykomunistycznym oddziale „Ścigacz”, aresztowanie przez PUBP Bochnia i związane z tym represje ze strony Urzędu Bezpieczeństwa, które pośrednio objęły także jego potomków.
