Artykuł stanowi próbę prześledzenia chwytów wykorzystanych do nakreślenia obrazu męskiego bohatera w wybranych powieściach Anny Ficner-Ogonowskiej (Alibi na szczęście, Krok do szczęścia, Zgoda n a szczęście, Szczęście w cichą noc), które mogą zostać uznane za reprezentatywny przykład współczesnej polskiej literatury popularnej przeznaczonej dla kobiecego odbiorcy. Elementy składające się na powieściową kreację męskości zostały przez autorkę artykułu ukazane przede wszystkim w odniesieniu do podstawowych cech psychologicznego syndromu Kopciuszka, który można rozpoznać u głównej bohaterki, jak również w nawiązaniu do obecnych w utworach stereotypowych uproszczeń dotyczących płci, strategii służących zaspokajaniu potrzeb oraz sposobów realizacji ról życiowych przez kobiety i mężczyzn.
The article is an attempt to trace the tricks used to draw an image of a male hero in selected novels by Anna Ficner-Ogonowska (Alibi na szczęście, Krok do szczęścia, Zgoda na szczęście, Szczęście w cichą noc), which can be regarded as a representative example of contemporary Polish popular literature intended for a female audience. The elements of masculinity depicted in the novels are shown primarily in relation to the basic features of the Cinderella syndrome, which can be observed in the main character, as well as in relation to the stereotypical simplifications about gender, strategies for satisfying needs and ways of fulfilling life roles by women and men.

For some time now moral psychologists and philosophers have ganged up on Aristotelians, arguing that results from psychological studies on the role of character-based and situation-based influences on human behavior have convincingly shown that situations rather than personal characteristics determine human behavior. In the literature on moral psychology and philosophy this challenge is commonly called the “situationist challenge,” and as Prinz (2009) has previously explained, it has largely been based on results from four salient studies in social psychology, including the studies conducted by Hartshorne and May (1928), Milgram (1963), Isen and Levin (1972), and Darley and Batson (1973). The situationist challenge maintains that each of these studies seriously challenges the plausibility of virtuous personal characteristics by challenging the plausibility of personal characteristics more generally. In this article I undermine the situationist challenge against Aristotelian moral psychology by carefully considering major problems with the conclusions that situationists have drawn from the empirical data, and by further challenging the accuracy of their characterization of the Aristotelian view. In fact I show that when properly understood the Aristotelian view is not only consistent with empirical data from developmental science but can also offer important insights for integrating moral psychology with its biological roots in our natural and social life.

The purpose of the article is the presentation of the ways that humor was understood within the current of positive psychology; the state and advances of research on the significance of this property in achieving and safeguarding a "good life” as well as the legitimacy and possibility of applying the theoretical and research approach devised by the mentioned orientation approaches to issues connected with humor to the field of developmental psychology during the life course. A conceptualisation of humor was presented as a character strength comprising the virtue of transcendence in the approach of Peterson and Seligman, a composite of wisdom in the concept of Webster and of a thinking style, experiencing and action in the theory of Martin. A review of research was then undertaken: humor as a virtue imbuing property; humor correlates understood from the perspective of positive psychology; manifestations of its regulative role and individual differences in humor as a resource contributing to individual growth. In the closing paragraphs a suggestion was formulated regarding humor research as a resource that supports positive development, namely, the fulfilment of developmental tasks, overcoming developmental crises and coping with problems connected with ageing.

Positive psychology has been introduced to the applied linguistics literature with the broad goal of improving the experience of language learners and teachers through a variety of interventions (MacIntyre & Mercer, 2014; Gabryś-Barker & Gałajda, 2016). “The aim of positive psychology is to catalyze a change in psychology from preoccupation only with repairing the worst things in life to also building the best qualities in life” (Seligman &Csikszentmihalyi, 2000, p. 5). One significant contribution of this young field has been a series of empirically-tested positive psychology interventions (PPIs) that have been shown to increase positive emotion, reduce distress, and/or improve well-being (Seligman, Steen, Park, & Peterson, 2005; Sin & Lyubormirsky, 2009). In the present research, we examine one application of a PPI involving a focus on using character strengths as a way to address language anxiety. Through a case study analysis, we demonstrate the ways that this intervention was beneficial for the student.

The objective of the presented article consists in the juxtaposition of two depictions of mechanisms of imagination which we use to create averaged images of all sensual experiences. The first of them is Kantian normal idea conducive to the construction of adherent beauty, whereas the second - Santayana’s concept of formation of a generic idea, aesthetic type or an ideal. It is my conviction that both these proposals are convergent, as they refer to the same method of functioning of the imagination, however they differ in certain details, as they are inscribed in nearly entirely opposite aesthetic concepts. However, Santayana’s theory of character creation goes further than Kant’s concept, as it exceeds the averaged image of the normal idea, and, while not being equivalent to Kantian aesthetic idea constituting a certain product of genius, it heads towards the idealisation of representations available to all people. The purpose behind Santayana’s concept proves to be more practical as compared to the solution proposed by Kant. In this depiction, we should recognise a universal mechanism of the imagination in the formation of characters as aesthetic forms, enabling a person to define his/her place and gain knowledge on the human world of attitudes, customs and ordinary behaviours.

The article discusses the dynamics of psychological views of A.F. Lazursky (1874-1917), author of one of the first theories of personality in the world of psychology. There are two stages in Lazursky’s work: the first is associated with the concept of nature as an internal individually-typological basis of personality, and the second one is determined by introduction and more intensive development of ideas about an attitude towards the world as an important component of the personality structure. The primary aim of the article is to highlight the role of Lazursky in international psychology.

In 2004 Peterson and Seligman presented their concept of virtues and 24 character strengths which are widely-valued positive characteristics considered to be important for achieving a good, happy life (Peterson, Seligman, 2004). For their measurement Peterson and Seligman (2004) developed Values in Action – Inventory of Strengths (VIA-IS). As a part of his International Personality Item Pool project (ipip.ori.org), Goldberg developed his own measurement of Peterson and Seligman’s character strengths, which differs from VIA-IS for example in its open access form. Research on Polish version of the International Personality Item Pool – Values in Action questionnaire (IPIP-VIA) was conducted on a sample of N = 908 adults. It proved satisfactory psychometric properties of the tool. High or satisfactory reliability for all the scales measuring character strengths was achieved. Validity of the tool was tested by comparing sex differences obtained in research with a Polish version of the IPIP-VIA and the results of studies conducted in the UK with the VIA-IS questionnaire.

The analysis included the reception of René Le Senne’s theory of personality by  psychology and pedagogy of the second half of the 20th century. The work reveals  the extraordinary topicality of the typology in modern times, with still the observed  lack of cooperation between psychologists and educators dealing with pedagogical  axiology, the theory of upbringing and education. The typology survived thanks to  the treatises of an outstanding scientist – Professor Janusz Tarnowski, whose dissertations in the field of personal-existential pedagogy of dialogue are reconstructed in  this work and supplemented with philosophical interpretation by Tadeusz Gadacz  in order to understand why the Le Senne’s typology is absent from social sciences  and humanities as the basis for modern upbringing and self-education.

The paper aims at investigating the demonstration of Russian intuition in the contemporary Russian speculative fiction. The research thesis is that the Russians, both presented in literature and within the frames of the national character studies, manifest themselves as the intuitive introvert type according to Carl Gustav Jung’s classification. For validating the thesis, as far as the proposed literary works are concerned, one should use the instruments offered by cultural literary criticism along with the support of non-literary disciplines, such as intercultural communication and ethnopsychology. Moreover, one should consider also notes on Russian national character taken by Jung himself as well as studies on the sociocultural aspect of the analysed works. A wide range of methods and perspectives allows deep research of the “feeling – intuitive” Jungian scale as manifested within literary characters representing the Russian element (also called Russianness) in the selected works, which belong to the most significant and/or popular pieces of contemporary speculative fiction in Russia.

This article aims at identifying the relevance of character research, conducted by Stepan Baley, a representative of the Ukrainian branch of the Lviv-Warsaw School. To achieve this, the author first analyzes the key points of Baley’s characterology, and then demonstrates its potential from the perspective of Twardowski’s philosophical tradition and within the ethical debate on the empirical approach to character. The author concludes that it is impossible, according to Baley, to obtain accurate and complete knowledge of character, as well as it is impossible to educate a person in a certain way.

The author examines the identification of the national character, culture, life of the Belarusian people. The work presents their psychology in the early twentieth century, their defining mental features, both positive and negative.
W artykule omówiono cechy artystyczne dwóch opowiadań łagrowych Łukasza Kaługi „Дзе косцi мелюць” i „Зэнка малы нiколi не быў”. Autor zwraca uwagę na narodowy charakter, kulturę i życie Białorusinów. Praca prezentuje psychologię Białorusinów na początku XX wieku, definiuje zarówno ich cechy pozytywne, jak i negatywne.

W artykule omówiono cechy współczesnej literatury dla dzieci i młodzieży dotyczącej poważnych tematów społecznych. Wskazano na ogólne tendencje w literaturze światowej skierowanej do młodych czytelników i na różnice w rodzimej tradycji literackiej. Podstawowy tekst analizy to utwór współczesnego białoruskiego pisarza Alesa Badaka pt. „Odinokij vosmiklasnik khochet poznakomitsa”. Określono potencjał utworu literackiego jako czynnik uspołeczniania czytelnika.
The article discusses artistic features of modern literature for children and youth on sensitive social topics.The general trends of world literature addressed to young readers and the differences in the domestic literary tradition are revealed. The story of a modern Belarusian writer Ales Badak “Odinokij vosmiklasnik khochet poznakomitsa” has been analyzed. The potential of the work as a factor in the socialization of the reader is determined.
