Opis:
The origin of universities reaches the period of Ancient Greece when philosophy (sophists, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, stoics and others) – the “Queen of sciences”, and the first institutions of higher education (among others, Plato’s Academy, Cassiodorus’ Vivarium, gymnasia) came into existence. Even before the new era, schools having the nature of universities existed also beyond European borders, including those in China and India. In the early Middle Ages, those types of schools functioned in Northern Africa and in the Near East (Baghdad, Cairo, Constantinople, cities of Southern Spain). The first university in the full meaning of the word was founded at the end of the 11th century in Bologna. It was based on a two-tiered education cycle. Following its creation, soon new universities – at first – in Italy, then (in the 12th and 13th century) in other European cities – were established. The author of the article describes their modes of operation, the methods of conducting research and organizing students’ education, the existing student traditions and customs. From the very beginning of the universities’ existence the study of law was part of their curricula, based primarily on the teaching of Roman law and – with time – the canon law. The rise of universities can be dated from the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of modernity. In the 17th and 18th century they underwent a crisis which was successfully overcome at the end of the 19th century and throughout the following one.

Opis:
This paper is an attempt of analysis of a new filiation novel by J. M. G. Le Clézio entitled “Alma”, closing the series of Mauritian novels inspired by the family history of the writer. Blending the voices and histories of two narrators who come from the same Mauritian Felsen family, the author brings back their past. By putting the characters in the correct social and geographical environment, such a rooted writing becomes the cure for evil, and a memorial tribute paid to various kinds of missing Mauritians, because the after effects touched not only the narrators’ family and other inhabitants of the island but island’s Eco systems too. I suggest to trace back, how looking for family roots do commingle with searching for social roots on Mauritius, where colonial crime went hand in hand with devastation of the nature.

Opis:
Decapod crustaceans are the most diverse group of fossil invertebrates from the Upper Cretaceous Sahel Alma Lagerstätte (Lebanon, Middle East). They are mainly represented by abundant crest−bearing shrimps which were first described as Penaeus libanensis. We review this species applying the new systematic nomenclature and we propose a more complete description based on 54 unpublished specimens. This review leads to the erection of Palaeobenthesicymus gen. nov. and to the new combination Palaeobenthesicymus libanensis that is the oldest record of the family Benthesicymidae. A neotype is herein designated. Detailed comparisons with extant analogues suggest that the crest bearing shrimps inhabited relatively deep water settings most probably exceeding 150 m, at the transition between the lower circalittoral and the upper bathyal zones, under dysphotic or aphotic conditions.

Opis:
At first, the authors describe complex history of the Academy of Catholic Theology in Warsaw founded in 1954 by arbitrary decision of the communist government in Poland. At that time Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski was arrested and held in a place of internment which was closely guarded by the state authorities. The issues of the canonicity of University began to clarify in the late fifties of the twentieth century, thanks to strong involvement of the Primate of the Millennium. These issues are summarized by Cardinal Zenon Grocholewski’s (now Prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education) quote from his speech. When on 12 October 1998 he was receiving his honoris causa of the Academy of Catholic Theology he said: When in 1954 this Academy was established on the basis of a resolution of the Council of Ministers as a state theological university, it was probably, in the intentions of the communist authorities who programmed atheism and fight religion to act as a Trojan horse in the Church. I think many people of the Church remembered back then the words of Laocoon from Virgil’s Aeneid: “Timeo Danaos et dona ferentes” - (I fear the Greeks even when they bring gifts). Academy of Catholic Theology, however, did not let to its instrumentalization and deception, it did not allow to enslave, but has become a genuine university and a serious study of the theological sciences, it has become a brave defender of freedom of thought and a pioneer of the contemporary reality thought of our country, it has made an undeniable contribution to Polish culture and Polish science. The authors also brought out from the very rich legacy of Cardinal speeches the text presented at the ACT in 1976. Primate then said: the reality is that if God is love, then the whole of humanization is a form of penetration of everyday life with the forces of love of the Creator, it is benefiting it from Him and transmitting it to man - as Christ did. Today, we have a good example of such behavior. It is the St. Francis of Assisi, whose 750th anniversary of death we are considering this year. [...] Francis is very current for our times. He carried out the Gospel and humanized human life with it and the Gospel is always valid for the humanization of human life. These words became even more meaningful after 13 March 2013, when Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina was elected for pope and chose the name Francis. When in the end of the nineties ACT began transforming into a university-level facility, the name of the future of the University and its patron considered various possibilities. During one discussion a proposal was made: Primate of the Millennium. Everyone agreed to that proposal. It was recognized that the election of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski as the Patron of the University will put before a new task of restoration the University and its permanent preservation in the Polish society awareness of the person and the work of Cardinal Wyszynski, his role in the postwar period, during extremely difficult times. In its name the University refers to a great patriot and a statesman of the Church, as well as an outstanding figure of Polish history.

The focus of my paper is Alma López who draws from indigenous traditions and archetypes in order to rewrite them from a feminist perspective and provide Latinas with alternative paradigms for the construction of the 21st century identities. The main goal of the article is to analyze how López takes advantage of the polyvalence of the Virgin of Guadalupe, as part of traditional Mexican iconography, and reinterprets the traditional archetype from a queer and feminist perspective (Calvo, 2004: 202).

Opis:
This paper provides an analysis of the early work of Concha Méndez (Spain, 1898-1986). Unfortunately, and due to a gender bias, her work has been neglected in most literary studies. The main claim of the following analysis is that the writing in her three early books reflects a rupture at both the personal and poetic level, in an attempt to make her work a part of the Spanish literary horizon of that time. Méndez disrupts the status quo: she is not a tearful and confessional poet, but rather one who puts forward a gynocentrist view in her poems. Furthermore, and unlike the average female poet, she chose to use an avant-garde style. In doing so, Méndez became a leader in promoting female freedom and in socially constructing the image of the new woman. Key words: Gynocentrist view, vanguard, social construction of image.
