Opis:
We consider the median solution of the Newsvendor Problem. Some properties of such a solution are shown through a theoretical analysis and a numerical experiment. Sometimes, though not often, median solution may be better than solutions maximizing expected profit, or maximizing minimum possible, over distribution with the same average and standard deviation, expected profit, according to some criteria. We discuss the practical suitability of the objective function set and the solution derived, for the Newsvendor Problem, and other such random optimization problems.

We consider the nonlinear discrete Volterra equations of non-convolution type [formula] We present sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions with prescribed asymptotic behavior, especially asymptotically polynomial and asymptotically periodic solutions. We use o(ns), for a given nonpositive real s, as a measure of approximation. We also give conditions under which all solutions are asymptotically polynomial.

The aim of this study was to determine the action of zinc, cooper, lead and cadmium compounds upon N. brasiliensis invasive nematode larvae. The tested larvae were kept in ZnCl2, CuCl2 , Pb(NO3)2 and CdCl2 solutions. The concentrations of toxic substances applied for the study corresponded with level of environmental pollulion. All toxins reduced live - space of larvae. In control group they survived about 69 days. In solutions of the Zn, contaminated with 10, 50, 100 and 200 ppm of toxic substance, they survived 42, 16, 14 days and 72 hours. In solution of Cu, contaminated with 5, 10, 50 and 200 ppm of toxin, live - space was reduced to 51, 21, 7 days and 54 hours, respectively. Lead reduced live - space of larvae to 26 days already at the low concentration of 10 ppm and in all higher concentrations (20, 50 and 200 ppm) their survival changed unsignificantly (to 22 days). In solution of Cd, contaminated with 0.1 and 0.3 ppm larvae died after 39 and 17 days, respectively, white at higher concentrations of this toxin (3 and 10 ppm) larvae survived only 54 and 30 hours, respectively.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the properties of a new solution of the 2-person bargaining problem as formulated by Nash, the so-called Average Pay-off solution. This solution of a very simple form has a natural interpretation based on the center of gravity of the feasible set, and it is "more sensitive" to changes of feasible sets than any other standard bargaining solution. It satisfies the standard axioms: Pareto-Optimality, Symmetry, Scale Invariance, Continuity and Twisting. Moreover, it satisfies a new desirable axiom, Equal Area Twisting. It is surprising that no standard solution of bargaining problems has this property. The solution considered can be generalized in a very natural and unique way to n-person bargaining problems.

Opis:
When solving problems in the real world using optimization tools, the model solved by the tools is often only an approximation of the underlying, real, problem. In these circumstances, a decision maker (DM) should consider a diverse set of good solutions, not just an optimal solution as produced using the model. On the other hand, the same DM will only be interested in seeing a few of the alternative solutions, and not the plethora of solutions often produced by modern search techniques. There is thus a need to distinguish between good solutions using the attributes of solutions. We develop a distance function of the type proposed in the Psychology literature by Tversky (1977) for the class of VRP problems. We base our difference on the underlying structure of solutions. A DM is often interested in focusing on a set of solutions fulfilling certain conditions that are of specific importance that day, or in general, like avoiding a certain road due to construction that day. This distance measure can also be used to generate solutions containing these specific classes of attributes, as the normal search process might not supply enough of these interesting solutions. We illustrate the use of the functions in a Multiobjective Decision Support System (DSS) setting, where the DM might want to see the presence (or absence) of certain attributes, and show the importance of identifying solutions not on the Pareto front. Our distance measure can use any attributes of the solutions, not just those defined in the optimization model.

In this paper, improved oscillation conditions are established for the oscillation of all solutions of differential equations with non-monotone deviating arguments and nonnegative coefficients. They lead to a procedure that checks for oscillations by iteratively computing lim sup and lim inf on terms recursively defined on the equation's coefficients and deviating argument. This procedure significantly improves all known oscillation criteria. The results and the improvement achieved over the other known conditions are illustrated by two examples, numerically solved in MATLAB.

Third order linear homogeneous differential and recurrence equations with constant coefficients are considered. We take the both equations with the same characteristic equation. We show that these equations (differential and recurrence) can have solutions with different properties concerning oscillation and boundedness. Especially the numbers of suitable types of solutions taken out from fundamental sets are presented. We give conditions under which the asymptotic properties considered are the same for the both equations.

In this study, the functional polymers containing heterocyclic ligands were synthesized by microwave modification of a crosslinked poly(vinylbenzyl chloride–divinylbenzene) matrix with 4-tertbutylpyridine, pyrrolidine, and 3-morpholinopropylamine. The sorbents were used to recover Ag(I) from the synthetic and real chloride solutions (4.00 mol/dm3 of NaCl, 0.100 mol/dm3 of HCl). The best Ag(I) sorption was achieved from synthetic and real chloride solutions in the case of pyrrolidine resin (16.2 and 16.7 mg/g, respectively). The sorption kinetic data were well fitted to the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The degree of silver desorption was approximately 90% using a 1.0% potassium cyanide solution in a 0.50% hydrogen peroxide solution. All resins showed good selectivity for Ag(I) compared to Cu(II), Pb(II), Co(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) in real chloride solution. On the basis of this study, it can be concluded that the obtained sorbents can be used to recover Ag from various sources such as ores, wastewater, and jewelry scraps.
