We establish existence and uniqueness of a canonical form for isometric extensions of an ergodic non-singular transformation T. This is applied to describe the structure of commutors of the isometric extensions. Moreover, for a compact group G, we construct a G-valued T-cocycle α which generates the ergodic skew product extension $T_α$ and admits a prescribed subgroup in the centralizer of $T_α$.

Let T be a representation of a suitable abelian semigroup S by isometries on a Banach space. We study the spectral conditions which will imply that T(s) is invertible for each s in S. On the way we analyse the relationship between the spectrum of T, Sp(T,S), and its unitary spectrum $Sp_{u}(T,S)$. For $S = ℤ^{n}_{+}$ or $ℝ^{n}_{+}$, we establish connections with polynomial convexity.

The isometric path cover (partition) problem of a graph consists of finding a minimum set of isometric paths which cover (partition) the vertex set of the graph. The isometric path cover (partition) number of a graph is the cardinality of a minimum isometric path cover (partition). We prove that the isometric path partition problem and the isometric k-path partition problem for k 3 are NP-complete on general graphs. Fisher and Fitzpatrick in [The isometric number of a graph, J. Combin. Math. Combin. Comput. 38 (2001) 97–110] have shown that the isometric path cover number of the (r × r)-dimensional grid is ⌈2r/3 ⌉. We show that the isometric path cover (partition) number of the (r × s)-dimensional grid is s when r s(s − 1). We establish that the isometric path cover (partition) number of the (r × r)-dimensional torus is r when r is even and is either r or r + 1 when r is odd. Then, we demonstrate that the isometric path cover (partition) number of an r-dimensional Benes network is 2r. In addition, we provide partial solutions for the isometric path cover (partition) problems for cylinder and multi-dimensional grids. We apply two di erent techniques to achieve these results.

Isometric muscle activation of single joint to volleyball players is critic on sport performance to produce potential muscle force, however isometric measurement limited in isokinetic muscle activity measurement of volleyball players. Indeed, hand dynamometers commonly use in various body isometric force. Professional volleyball players age 16.23 ± 0.59 yr, body mass 60.22 ± 4.64 kg, hight 1.69 ± 0.04 m participated to peak and average isometric force measurement over 8 week pre and post test. Accordingly, single joint muscle force production measurement of volleyball players tested on isometric muscle activation using a new hand dynamometer activforce 2. Isometric muscle activation tests consisted of 24 body region from upper and lower compartment. For this isometric muscle action test detected on peak force outcomes (SEM: 37.90; CV: 1.79) and average force outcomes (SEM: 33.62; CV: 1.84). The high isometric muscle action joint loading performing mechanical test application recommended on athletic population to using isometric potential high contraction model by strength training performance separately in-season and off-season measurement modeling. Conclusion, peak and average force production progressive isometric modeling of volleyball athletes worked to current sport–health condition. As out, conclusion must be advanced isometric force measurement proper work in sport-specific tasks. The proper isometric force must be repeat sport performance outcome in different sport modalities.

Health status is partly determined by physical fitness level. Physical fitness can be developed through different physical activities under condition that regularity and intensity are maintained on optimal level. One of such physical activities is step aerobics - one of the most popular collective fitness forms offered in fitness clubs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of step aerobics training on VO2max, isometric strength and body composition of young female students. Female students aged 19-21 of University of Physical Education and Sport in Gdańsk were subjects in this study. VO2max, isometric strength of elbow flexors and knee extensors, as well as body composition, were measured week before and week after a ten-week step aerobics training. For statistical analysis, basic descriptive statistics and student’s t-test were applied for dependent variables. After ten weeks of training there were no statistically significant changes in body composition, probably due to lack of calorie intake control. Significant changes were observed in isometric strength of elbow flexors but no changes in isometric strength of knee extensors. There was a compensation in isometric strength noted between left and right leg after ten weeks of training, where left leg was weaker than the right leg before training. Significant changes were noted in VO2max values, which increased from 42.04 ml/kg/min-1 to 45.71 ml/kg/min-1. Step aerobics training can sufficiently increase VO2max in young females and has a potential in developing strength of upper extremities. When body composition is the main purpose, diet should be taken under consideration.

The purpose of this study was to determine differences in force steadiness during submaximal plantar flexion (PF) and dorsiflexion (DF) of the dominant leg between individuals experienced and not experienced in resistance training. Forty males aged 18-32 were divided in two groups based on their experience in resistance training (experienced – not experienced). Evaluation of maximal voluntary isometric force was carried out on a Humac-Norm isokinetic dynamometer. The measurement of the maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) was measured in 3 isometric attempts. Then, the stability measurement of 10%, 30%, 50% and 70% of the MVC was assessed. The duration of the isometric contraction was 10 seconds but only 6 seconds were analyzed. T-test for independent samples and ANOVA was applied for the statistical analysis. The results showed that the individuals with more experience in resistance training presented a significantly higher MVC and force steadiness of the plantar and dorsiflexors muscles, compared with the individuals with less experience (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the years of practice with resistance training appear to have a beneficial effect on force steadiness.

We give several upper and lower bounds for the strong isometric dimension of general graphs; the exact strong isometric dimension for cycles and hypercubes; and the isometric dimension for trees is found to within a factor of two.

It is believed that a strong core will enable an athlete to effectively transfer forces from the lower extremities through the torso to the upper extremities. Control of the shoulder girdle force is important for the proper function of the upper extremities, although stabilising forces from the trunk and pelvis are also important. The purpose of this study is to determine the association between shoulder isometric push-up/pull-down strength and isometric strength of the abdominal muscles. Using the HUR Rehab-Line 5310 and 5120, isometric upper limb and core strength was measured. The statistical analysis revealed a moderate but significant positive association between the strength of the back muscles and isometric push-ups. Additionally, there was a weak and significant connection between isometric push-ups and abdominal strength. The study therefore draws the conclusion that there is a link between isometric upper limb performance and core musculature strength/stability. The abdominal and back muscles' isometric strength is closely tied to the isometric push-up, which is attributable to the contraction of the Pectoralis Major, Deltoid, and Triceps Brachii. The only muscle group identified to have a substantial and positive correlation with isometric pull-down strength is the abdominal muscles.

We give a criterion ensuring that the elementary class of a modular Banach space \(E\) (that is, the class of Banach spaces, some ultrapower of which is linearly isometric to an ultrapower of \(E\)) consists of all direct sums \(E\oplus_m H\), where \(H\) is an arbitrary Hilbert space and \(\oplus_m\) denotes the modular direct sum. Also, we give several families of examples in the class of Nakano direct sums of finite dimensional normed spaces that satisfy this criterion. This yields many new examples of uncountably categorical Banach spaces, in the model theory of Banach space structures.

Median graphs are characterized among direct products of graphs on at least three vertices. Beside some trivial cases, it is shown that one component of G×P₃ is median if and only if G is a tree in that the distance between any two vertices of degree at least 3 is even. In addition, some partial results considering median graphs of the form G×K₂ are proved, and it is shown that the only nonbipartite quasi-median direct product is K₃×K₃.

Wstęp: Elektrostymulacja prądami Kotza jest jednym z zabiegów stosowanych w fizjoterapii zarówno do zwiększania masy mięśniowej, jak i wytrzymałości mięśni. Innym sposobem wykorzystywanym w tym samym celu, jest wykonywanie ćwiczeń izometrycznych. Cel pracy: Celem badań było określenie, która z metod: elektrostymulacja Kotza czy ćwiczenia izometryczne, korzystniej wpływa na napięcie oraz przyrost masy mięśnia prostego uda u osób zdrowych. Materiał i metody: W badaniu wzięło udział 30 osób. Grupa A (n=15) poddana była serii 10 zabiegów prądami Kotza, w grupie B (n=15) zastosowano ćwiczenia izometryczne. Wykonano pomiar obwodów badanej kończyny, próbę wysiłkową w formie „testu krzesełkowego” oraz ocenę napięcia mięśnia prostego uda za pomocą elektromiografii powierzchniowej. Wyniki: W obu grupach odnotowano istotny statystycznie spadek napięcia spoczynkowego oraz wydłużenie próby wysiłkowej. Nie zaobserwowano istotnych statystycznie zmian obwodów uda. Wnioski: Niniejsza praca pozwala potwierdzić słuszność stosowania prądów Kotza i ćwiczeń izometrycznych u osób zdrowych.
Introduction: Kotz electrostimulation is one of the treatments used in Physical therapy, both to enhance muscle mass and muscle strength. Another method used for the same purpose is to perform isometric exercises. The two treatments can also be used to change the bioelectrical activity of the muscle. Aim of research:The aim of this study was to determine which of the methods: Kotz electrostimulation or isometric exercises, has a better influence on the tension and weight gain of rectus femoris in healthy subjects. Material and methods: 30 individuals participated in the study. Group A (n=15) was subjected to a series of 10 Kotz stimulations, group B (n=15) to isometric exercises. Thigh girth, Strength test in the form of a „chair test” and rectus femoris muscle tension was assessed. Results: In both groups statistically significant decrease in muscle tension and the extension of the strength test was reported. There were no statistical significant changes in thigh girth. Conclusions: This research allows to confirm the validity of the use of Kotz stimulations and isometric exercises in healthy subjects.
