Opis:
In 1973–2011 in Poznań, aphid catches were carried out using Johnson’s suction trap. Since then the suction trap located at the Institute of Plant Protection – National Research Institute in Poznań has continuously recorded the daily and seasonal dynamics of aphid flights. The collected results has been used to establish one of the largest databases of this type in Europe. The data also allow tracking changes in aphid biodiversity under the changing climatic conditions. Three aphid species of Diuraphis spp. were identified: D. muehlei (Börner, 1950) – in 1974, D. bromicola (Hille Ris Lambers, 1959) – in 1988, D. noxia (Kurdjumov, 1913) – in 2003 as a result of systematic and long-term aphid collections. The occurrence of D. noxia presents a particular risk to cereal crops in Poland. This expansive aphid species that originates from Asia and the Mediterranean is a vector of Barley yellow dwarf viruses (BYDV), and has become one of the most important pest of wheat and barley in the world. Changes in climatic conditions that have been observed in recent years in Poland such as hot summer, long and warm autumn, mild winter seem to be optimal for occurrence and development of aphid species from warmer parts of Europe.

Changes to the Warta river on its Poznań section, in the historical approach, has been presented in the work. Economical circumstances supporting the change of this hydrographical set were shown and the spatial consequences of the introduced changes have been pointed out. The abandoned concept from the 19th century and the limits of works of the carried out rebuilding in the 1960s were discussed in detail. The inaccuracy of the chosen concept was stressed and the need for renaturalization of the river beds was raised, together with examples given of such actions on the area of Poland and Europe.

In the period from September 2008 to July 2009 in the Grunwald district in the city of Poznań, Poland, a total of 609 localities of flowering English ivy were recorded, for which 769 plants were described. These plants were found in different localities, most of them euhemerobic. The biggest number of flowering specimens was recorded in home gardens. Support for climbing plants was mainly provided by trees and shrubs, including fruit trees – pear and apple trees. Among the other tree species, the biggest group comprises Scots pine, common birch, European larch and common locust. Other types of supports included fences, buildings and elements of small architecture. A very high number of specimens in the generative stage in the Grunwald district indicates considerable popularity and at the same time very good adaptation of ivy not only to the climatic conditions of the city of Poznań, but also to anthropogenic changes in the habitat.

Detailed phycological analysis aimed at the assessment of water quality in the Sołacki Park ponds in Poznań was performed during the vegetative season of 2012. Qualitative analysis revealed the presence of a total of 294 phytoplankton taxa (244 in the Mały Pond and 246 in the Duży Pond), most of which were green algae (total 32%) and diatoms (33%). However, quantitative evaluation showed that in the summer both ponds were dominated by green algae and in the fall by fi lamentous cyanobacteria. The highest phytoplankton abundance occurred in the fall (13 291 ind./ml in the Mały Pond and 20 288 ind./ml in the Duży Pond), when the proportion of blue-green algae was the greatest. The dominant species were: Ulnaria acus, Crucigenia tetrapedia, Tetraedron minimum, Planktothrix agardhii and Pseudanabaena limnetica. Signifi cant share of green algae of the order Chlorococcales, cyanobacteria and diatoms, indicator algae for eutrophy and meso- or polysaproby, suggested high fertility and signifi cant pollution of the investigated ponds. This study confi rms the need for continuous monitoring of the Sołackie Ponds, as well as periodic reclamation treatments in order to reduce eutrophication and improve water quality.

Fecal samples from the hedgehogs, Erinaceus europaeus (15 samples) and E. roumanicus (44 samples) collected in the Poznań region of Poland were examined. Endoparasites were isolated using Sheather’s flotation technique. The prevalence of parasitic infections in all hedgehogs examined was 74.6% (E. europaeus – 73.3%; E. roumanicus – 75.0%). Two species of parasites occurred in both species of hosts: Aonchotheca erinacei (60% and 80%) and Eucoleus aerophilus (6.7% and 15.9%). Brachylaima erinacei was found only in E. europaeus (33.3%) while Physaloptera sp. (13.6%) and Crenosoma striatum (4.6%) only in E. roumanicus. The intensity of infection varied from 1 to 371 eggs/1g of feces in E. europaeus and from 1 to 194 eggs/1g of feces in E. roumanicus. In both sexes the majority of infections were of low intensity, high intensity infections occurring only sporadically. No zoonotic species of endoparasites were recorded in these samples.

Daily average Alnus pollen counts (1996-2005) from Worcester (UK) and Poznań (Poland) were examined with the aim of assessing the regional importance of Alnus pollen as an aeroallergen. The average number of Alnus pollen grains recorded annually at Poznań was more than 2.5 times that of Worcester. Furthermore, daily average Alnus pollen counts exceeded the thresholds of 100, 500 and 1,000 grains/m3 more times at Poznań than Worcester. Skin prick test results (1996-2005) and allergen-specifi c IgE (asIgE) measurements using the CAP (Pharmacia) system (2002-2005), were supplied by the Allergic Diseases Diagnostic Centre in Poznań. The annual number of positive skin prick tests to Alnus pollen allergens was signifi cantly related (p<0.05) to seasonal variations in the magnitude of the Alnus pollen catch recorded at Poznań (r=0.70). The symptoms of patients with positive skin prick tests to Alnus pollen allergens were: 51% pollinosis, 43% atopic dermatitis, 4% asthma, 1% chronic urticaria and 1% eczema. On a scale of 0-6, 20.5% of patients examined for serum asIgE in relation to Alnus pollen allergens had asIgE measurements in classes 5 and 6. Alnus pollen is generally considered to be mildly allergenic. However, the amount of Alnus pollen released into the atmosphere in places such as Poznań may increase its impact on the population and make it one of the more important aeroallergens present.

Opis:
The vegetation of allotment gardens is an important element of urban green areas and constitutes a habitat where many groups of insects exist, including aphids. This research involved the monitoring of winged morphs of aphids in allotment gardens in the area of Poznań with the use of Moericke traps. The fauna structure of aphids in two large allotment gardens was demonstrated by comparing the activity of winged morphs of aphids in 2000–2001 and 2014–2015. The vegetation of these gardens was accompanied by the rich fauna of aphids. For four growing seasons, 113 species or groups of aphid species were captured with the traps. Major changes were reported in the structure of the collected fauna in the period of time when the research was conducted. The differences concerned particular positions of collected species in aphid communities. The abundance of Anoecia corni, Aphis sambuci, Phorodon humuli and Periphyllus testudinaceus increased, and now hold the position of subdominants of the communities, whereas Myzus persicae and Hyalopterus pruni decreased in comparison with the situation more than ten years ago. Rhopalosiphum padi still remains an eudominant in the communities. The main reason for this phenomenon is thought to be due to changes in the vegetation composition of gardens because the gardens are being used differently. The production function has changed to recreation.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of a biometrical study on the leaves of vegetative and generative shoots of Morus alba. Mature leaves were collected from the green areas of Poznań (Poland) city. Leaves from vegetative shoots were collected from 34 sites. Leaves from generative shoots were collected from specimens with blackish purple or purple fruit (13 trees) and with pale yellow to creamy fruit (21 trees). Eleven morphological traits were analysed in the leaves from vegetative and generative shoots, including the petiole and blade. The seven examined features were characterised by low or moderate variability and four features were characterised by high or very high variability. The research revealed slight differences between trees with blackish purple or pale yellow fruit and significant morphological differences between the leaves of vegetative and generative shoots. The article includes descriptions of quantitative features have not been published in Poland. White mulberry leaves (Morus alba) with white and dark fruit did not make clearly separated groups. Therefore, they should be treated as morphotype of cultivars rather than a distinct taxonomic rank.
