Opis:
The Polylepis forests in the central Andes of Peru remain in hostile environments due to their location above 4000 meters of altitude. They are home to a great biodiversity with a high level of endemism and are extremely vulnerable to climate change and human pressure. Variations in rainfall and temperature have been affecting plant health. These aspects have led to the analysis of the physiological response of plants through water stress and NDVI, in dry periods and related to altitudinal gradients and slope, of five forests located in the regions of Junin and Lima, where the species Polylepis rodolfo vasquezii, P. canoi and P. flavilpila are found. Seven 15 x 21 m plots and 10 sub-plots were established, distributed in the lower, middle and upper parts of the forest. The water potential of leaflets was measured by a Scholander pressure pump in a Pascale unit, microclimate variations by means of installed soil and air humidity and temperature sensors; the NDVI by means of multispectral images captured by an unmanned airborne vehicle. Water stress was different among species and changed according to the altitudinal gradient, soil hydrological variation and temperature. Leaflet size adaptation related to stress changes and a high correlation of NDVI with plant stress status were observed.

The paper presents the evaluation of the possibility to apply the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) to determine the burned area using the machine vision method. Digital analysis to determine the NDVI has been based on images obtained by transducers in visible light and near infrared (NIR). Under appropriate conditions, the described method offers an alternative to the existing methods of observation and manual measurement. As great progress has been made in the field of unmanned aerial vehicle data acquisition, the method described constitutes a possible solution especially in cases when evaluation of loss assessment caused by external fires is supposed to be prepared.

Recent researches have determined that vegetation is one of the essential factors for game habitat quality. Vegetation is important in the form of the following components: as a food supplier, as a shelter provider, as the creator and regulator of the micro-climate of the habitat, etc. Past practice has shown that the classical methods for evaluating habitat factors involve a lot of subjectivity and often lead to an unrealistic estimate of hunting ground capacity that can affect sustainable game management. Instead of the classical analyses, paper proposes assessment of this factor using Geographic Information System (GIS). NDVI – normalized difference vegetation index is a graphical indicator that can be used to analyze images obtained by remote sensing and is used for these purposes. The researched area was hunting ground "Kapetanski rit" – Kanjiža, Serbia. In order to assess the vegetation factor, the analysis of satellite images is done for two periods of the year (May and December/January). In May the game prepares shelters for bringing an offspring and the period December/January is taken as part of the year when vegetation coverage is minimal due to winter and game is in need of additional food and shelter. Based on the results and maps, the user of the hunting ground can have a clearer view of the vegetation types and distribution, hence assistance in planning and analyzing the territorial distribution of the game. Comparing classical methods for evaluating vegetation and the use of GIS for this purpose shows the advantages of new improved GIS methodology.

LiDAR technology has been widely adopted as a proper method for land cover classification. Recently with the development of technology, LiDAR systems can now capture high-resolution multispectral bands images with high-density LiDAR point cloud simultaneously. Therefore, it opens new opportunities for more precise automatic land-use classification methods by utilizing LiDAR data. This article introduces a combining technique of point cloud classification algorithms. The algorithms include ground detection, building detection, and close point classification - the classification is based on point clouds’ attributes. The main attributes are heigh, intensity, and NDVI index calculated from 4 bands of colors extracted from multispectral images for each point. Data of the Leica City Mapper LiDAR system in an area of 80 ha in Quang Xuong town, Thanh Hoa province, Vietnam was used to deploy the classification. The data is classified into eight different types of land use consist of asphalt road, other ground, low vegetation, medium vegetation, high vegetation, building, water, and other objects. The classification workflow was implemented in the TerraSolid suite, with the result of the automation process came out with 97% overall accuracy of classification points. The classified point cloud is used in a workflow to create a 3D city model LoD2 (Level of Detail) afterward.

In response to the growing needs of spatial recognition of the intensity of agricultural crop production, a new haNDVI indicator was developed, that measures the amplitude of the NDVI indicator related to the harvest. The proposed way of calculating haNDVI is to use the minimum and maximum functions for the raster layers set from the growing season. This avoids the need for preliminary classification of crops, including to determine the moment of harvest. It has been shown that the haNDVI indicator calculated on aggregated NDVI layers with a resolution of 1 km is correlated with soil quality indexes, NPK fertilization intensity (r = 0.69) and the share of crops in the total area (r = 0.86) for municipalities. The properties of the haNDVI indicator make it particularly useful for the initial, rapid scanning of environmental quality in terms of the intensity of plant production and indicating the hazards locations associated with the use of fertilizers and plant protection products.

Remote sensing is a convenient tool for the study of vegetation cover conditions and dynamics using normalized difference and enhanced vegetation indices. Determination of the connection between weather and vegetation indices plays an important role in better understanding peculiarities of ecosystems reaction to changing climate conditions. The study devoted to the evaluation of annual and long-term dynamics under vegetation cover conditions, and its reaction to the climate factor, was performed through the establishment of the link between remote sensing information (smoothed time series data on normalized and enhanced vegetation indices) and results of on-land hydrometeorological observations for air temperature and precipitation amounts in Kherson oblast of Ukraine during the period from 2012 to 2019 by the means of linear regression analysis of the data. The values of the studied vegetation indices (Terrain MODIS NDVI and MODIS EVI 250 m smoothed time series) were calculated and generalized by the means of GDAL raster analysis toolkit in QGIS 3.10. Statistical data processing was performed using BioStat v7 software. It was found that there is a strong tendency towards the enhancement of vegetation in the region year by year. Climate has strong effect on the vegetation, and the main input belongs to air temperature, while precipitation amounts cannot be considered as a driving force of changes in the growth of vegetation. Enhanced vegetation index seems to be more reliable for the estimation of vegetation cover conditions in comparison to normalized difference vegetation index.

Opis:
Over the last decades, Algeria has witnessed intense and persistent drought periods characterized by a significant rainfall deficit. The Northwestern Algeria, such as the most south Mediterranean regions, is marked by alternating wet and dry periods and mixing between Atlantic and Mediterranean airs. In a climate context increasingly disturbed by anthropogenic activities, it is essential to analyze the dry episodes at spatial and temporal scales. In order to understand this problem, this work aims to use the potential of Landsat satellite imagery for monitoring drought conditions in the Cheliff watershed in the northwestern Algeria. As known, the behavior of vegetation is strongly related to climate changes. On this basis, a comparison of the variations in the standardized normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and those of the drought indices calculated from meteorological data was implemented. In fact, the rainfall series from fifty meteorological stations were analyzed. The standardized precipitation index (SPI) was calculated for the years 1987, 2000, 2006, 2011 and 2015, corresponding to the acquisition dates of Landsat images. Similarly, an extraction of the NDVI values was performed for each meteorological station. The linear regression between SPI and NDVI showed a good correlation. Thus, the obtained results enabled establishing a new drought index based essentially on satellite data. This index represents the advantage for monitoring spatially the drought phenomena and can solve the problem of climatic data lack.

The objective of this study is to analyse the spatial diversity and temporal variation of evapotranspiration in the catchment of the Nurzec River in the years 2001-2010. The study is based on MODIS images highlighting monthly accumulated values of evapotranspiration, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and land use categories. Monthly evapotranspiration was calculated for the whole catchment as well as in different land use categories. The study focuses on assessing the relationship between the values of NDVI and evapotranspiration. The annual ET according to MODIS varied from 392 mm to 458 mm. Deciduous broadleaf forests have a higher ET than other land use categories. The analysis shows a strong correlation between monthly ET and NDVI.

Opis:
Land cover change is the result of complex interactions between social and environmental systems which change over time. While climatic and biophysics phenomena were for a long time the principal factor of land transformations, human activities are today the origin of the major part of land transformation which affects natural ecosystems. Quantification of natural and anthropogenic impacts on vegetation cover is often hampered by logistical issues, including (1) the difficulty of systematically monitoring the effects over large areas and (2) the lack of comparison sites needed to evaluate the effect of the factors. The effective procedure for measuring the degree of environmental change due to natural factors and human activities is the multitemporal study of vegetation cover. For this purpose, the aim of this work is the analysis of the evolution of land cover using remote sensing techniques, in order to better understand the respective role of natural and anthropogenic factors controlling this evolution. A spatio-temporal land cover dynamics study on a regional scale in Oranie, using Landsat data for two periods (1984–2000) and (2000–2011) was conducted. The images of the vegetation index were classified into three classes based on Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) values and analysed using image difference approach. The result shows that the vegetation cover was changed. An intensive regression of the woody vegetation and forest land resulted in -22.5% of the area being lost between 1984 and 2000, 1,271 km2 was converted into scrub formations and 306 km2 into bare soil. On the other hand, this class increased by around 45% between 2000 and 2011, these evolutions resulting from the development of scrub groups with an area of 1,875.7 km2.

Shrinkage of urban green space has led to the disruption of the ecological balance. Population growth, industrial expansion, development activities and land encroachment reduce the vegetation cover of metropolitan cities including Lahore, Pakistan. Presently, Lahore is on top of all metropolitan cities in the world having worst air quality index (AQI). Thus, monitoring of the vegetation cover in urban areas is the ultimate need of the day for the conservation and protection of environment which is also the agenda of new government (Clean and Green Pakistan). Besides, Honorable Lahore High Court has also passed an order to plant trees in the oldest and biggest graveyard of Lahore to tackle the climate change issue. Considering the above-mentioned facts, the current research was carried out for the first time in Lahore, Pakistan to analyze the vegetation cover using spatio-temporal technique. For vegetation cover assessment, spatial techniques were used in the present study viz. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Transformed Normalized Vegetation Index (TNDVI), Difference Vegetation Index (DVI) and supervised classification. On the basis of high magnitude of smog and air pollution issue, four recent years were selected, i.e. 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 to observe ground reality. The results of the study revealed the depletion of vegetation cover in cemeteries at an alarming rate. Furthermore, the results of study revealed no significant change in green cover in Miani Sahib after the passing order of Lahore High Court of plantation in the graveyard.

Generative adversarial networks (GAN) opened new possibilities for image processing and analysis. In- painting, dataset augmentation using artificial samples, or increasing spatial resolution of aerial imagery are only a few notable examples of utilising GANs in remote sensing (RS). The normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI) ground-truth labels were prepared by combining RGB and NIR orthophotos. The dataset was then utilised as input for a conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN) to perform an image-to-image translation. The main goal of the neural network was to generate an artificial NDVI image for each processed 256 px × 256 px patch using only in- formation available in the panchromatic input. The network achieved a structural similarity index measure (SSIM) of 0.7569 ± 0.1083, a peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of 26.6459 ± 3.6577 and a root-mean-square error (RSME) of 0.0504 ± 0.0193 on the test set, which should be considered high. The perceptual evaluation was performed to verify the meth- od’s usability when working with a real-life scenario. The research confirms that the structure and texture of the pan- chromatic aerial RS image contain sufficient information for NDVI estimation for various objects of urban space. Even though these results can highlight areas rich in vegetation and distinguish them from the urban background, there is still room for improvement regarding the accuracy of the estimated values. The research aims to explore the possibility of utilising GAN to enhance panchromatic images (PAN) with information related to vegetation. This opens exciting opportunities for historical RS imagery processing and analysis.

Opis:
Wymagają one jednak ustawicznej aktualizacji i tu w sukurs przychodzą zdjęcia wielospektralne, które mogą znacznie przyspieszyć i zautomatyzować proces aktualizacji bazy danych przestrzennych. Opracowano i przetestowano metodykę przetwarzania ortofotomapy i zdjęcia satelitarnego w celu ekstrakcji informacji o obiektach topograficznych reprezentujących roślinność oraz wody będącymi integralną częścią bazy danych „błękitnej i zielonej infrastruktury”. Przeprowadzone badania i analizy porównawcze wskazały na potencjał i ograniczenia obu źródeł danych teledetekcyjnych.
In recent years, the concept of green and blue infrastructure has been earning recognition and is increasingly being implemented in Polish cities and municipalities. It serves many important functions, ranging from recreational, ecological aspects to economic ones. This concept attaches particular attention to elements of the natural environment when making decisions regarding mainly spatial development, but also to aspects of its monitoring and management. To meet this task, it is necessary to refer to current spatial data. It is possible to successfully use existing spatial databases such as BDOT10k, Natura 2000 or other thematic created in city offices, e.g. in environmental protection offices. However, they require constant updating and here remote sensing data comes in, which speeds up the database update process. Depending on the needs and detail of the database, you can obtain data for this purpose from both the air and satellite altitude. The purpose of the research was to analyze the possibilities of using an aerial orthophotomap and a Sentinel-2 satellite image obtained for two different research areas. Test areas that were different in terms of land cover and local government units were selected for the experiments. It was an urban-rural commune with an agricultural landscape and the central district of a selected provincial city with a high urban index. The methodology of orthophotomap and satellite image processing and extraction of information about topographic objects related to vegetation and waters being an integral part of the „blue and green infrastructure” database was developed and tested. The conducted research and comparative analyzes indicated the potential and limitations of both sources of remote sensing data.

The purpose of the study was to establish dependence of sunflower productivity on hybrid plasticity under the climatic conditions of the Steppe zone and effectiveness of growth-regulators on the basis of the analysis of differentiation of a vegetation index. The research on the development and productivity of different sunflower hybrids under the natural-climatic conditions of the Steppe zone of Ukraine was conducted in the years of 2019 (medium-wet), 2020 (dry) and 2021 (wet). Spatio-temporal differentiation of the vegetation of sunflower hybrids was established on the basis of calculation of a normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) using the data of the decoded space images of Sentinel 2. Cartographic and grapho-analytical materials reflecting the reaction of plants to natural-climatic conditions and multifunctional growth-regulators were obtained. The dependence of the reaction of sunflower hybrids to multifunctional growth-regulators on their plasticity in response to the natural-climatic conditions of the Steppe zone was established. There was a weak reaction to application of growth-regulators of the sunflower hybrids Oplot and P64HE133 which are characterized by a high level of plasticity in response to the natural-climatic conditions of the Steppe zone. It was proven that the application of the biological preparation Helafit Combi exceeded the level of agrocenoses productivity in comparison with the chemical preparation ArchitectТМ by 1.1-5.4%. It was established that foliar treatment with growth-regulators led to a decline in water uptake by the sunflower hybrids by 1.2–10.0% in the dry year, by 3.8–8.6% in the medium-wet year and by 3.7%–21.9% in the wet year. There was a significant reduction in the level of water uptake by the hybrid Hector – by 7.7–10.0% and the hybrid 8KH477KL – by 1.2–21.9%. The research results are the basis for forecasting the development of sunflower hybrid crops with further measurement of the crop productivity that allows establishing a probable level of efficiency of sunflower hybrid production by agricultural producers under the climatic conditions of the Steppe zone.
