There is an interesting yet forgotten work of Egyptianizing architecture situated on the premises of a vast park-palace complex in Konskie (a city in central Poland, between Kielce and Opoczno). It is an orangery/hothouse (54,75 x 7,25 m) that was built in the years 1825-1830 on commission for Stanislaw and Anna Malachowski, the owners of the property at that time. The creator of the building was Francesco Maria Lanci (1799-1875), a young Italian architect who had been invited to develop the palace complex. Following that commission, Lanci spent the rest of his career in Poland, where he created numerous neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance works. Using a knowledge of the basic forms of Egyptian architecture that he drew from French treatises written after Napoleon's expedition to Egypt, Lanci employed monumental pylons, statues of Memnons in niches, composite capitals, cavetto cornices, a winged sun disc and masks derived from transformed Hathor capitals. In many places he also designed pseudo-hieroglyphic inscriptions. It may be presumed that the investor demanded such Egyptian forms, since Stanislaw Malachowski (1770-1849) was strongly involved with the Freemasons after 1790. The orangery in Konskie is quite well preserved (with a style-less annex added on the northern side in 1969), but neglected, and surely demands the thoughtful care of a conservator.

Opis:
The influence of voltage electrostimulation on some quality features of horseflesh have been examined. The samples of horseflesh from 16 carcasses after butchering have been divided into 3 experimental groups. One group of muscles was the control group, the second one was treated with electrostimulation after 30 minutes and the third one was electrostimulated after 240 minutes after butchering. The greatest muscle reaction observed in the accelerated fall of pH was noticed in the second experimental group. Big changes of hygroscopity and termic outlow have not been observed. The electrostimulation influenced the acceleration of ripening, which was observed in the organoleptic appreciation.
Исследовано влияние низковольтной электростимуляции на некоторые качественные признаки конины. Пробы конины из 16 туш после забоя разделено на 3 подопытные группы. Одна группа мяса являлась контрольной группой, вторую подвергли электростимуляции через 30 мин. и третью через 240 мин. после забоя. Наибольшую реакцию мяса, выражающуюся в ускоренном понижении pH (кислотности), наблюдали при применении электростимуляции через 30 мин после забоя. Не нaблюдались большие изменения водопоглощаемости и термического вытекания. Электростимуляция повлияла на ускорение процесса созревания, чмо наблюдалось в органолептической оценке.

The reinforced manor house at Jakubowice Końskie has been revealed as late as in 1963 during on-the- spot surveys conducted in connection with editorial works .aimed at preparing the publication of a consecutive issue of Catalogue of Monuments of Art in Poland covering the territory of Lublin district. An analysis of architectural forms and styles present in object, the preserved architectural detail (as, for example, the Gothic brick bond in walls, the ashlar quoins built-up of alternating longer .and shorter pieces, ogival jambs in cellar, profiled door-posts) and also some analogies apparent between the manor house in question and the reinforced manor houses at Jeżów and Wieruszyce allowed to date this object back to the first half of the 16t.h century. The eastern part of this manor house was reconstructed and extended probably in the 18th century and then in the turn of the 19th century. It has burnt out in 1966 and was partly demolished. The historical documentation is now under preparation together with an architectural design for its preservation in form of a lasting ruin. However, this decision seems to be one poorly reasoned and provokes to advance an opinion that it would be advisable to make a repeated analysis of possibilities to rebuild .and develop both the object and its surrounding.

Zawód agenta handlowego jest stosunkowo młody. Powstał on w połowie XIX w., a pod koniec tego stulecia jego przedstawiciele pełnili już ważne funkcje pośredników między przemysłem a handlem oraz między handlem hurtowym a detalicznym. Tekst rozpoczyna się od charakterystyki odmiennego stosunku Polaków i Żydów do handlu jako dziedziny gospodarki. Następnie autorka przedstawiła dzieje zawodu agenta handlowego (przedstawiciela handlowego, zastępcy) wraz z określeniem zalecanych dla tej profesji cech charakteru (i warunków fizycznych). Podstawą głównej części tekstu jest korespondencja krążąca między przedstawicielem handlowym Hilarym Mintzem, mającym stałe przedstawicielstwo w Katowicach, a właścicielami Fabryki Wyrobów Żelaznych „Neptun” I. Mintza w Końskich. Jest to barwna opowieść o warunkach pracy przedstawiciela handlowego, blaskach i cieniach tego zawodu.
The profession of a commercial agent is relatively young. It was established in the mid-nineteenth century, and at the end of the nineteenth century, its representatives already played important functions as intermediaries between industry and trade, and between wholesale and retail sectors. The text begins with a description of the different attitude of Poles and Jews to trade as a sector of the economy. Then, the author presents the history of the profession of a commercial agent (sales representative, deputy) with the specification of the recommended character traits (and physical conditions) for representatives of this profession. The basis of the main part of the text is the correspondence circulating between the commercial agent Hilary Mintz, who was a permanent representative in Katowice, and the owners of the Iron Casting Factory „Neptun” J. Mintz in Końskie. It is a colorful story about the working conditions of a sales representative, with its splendors and difficulties.
